They need to get rid of the word ‘tough’ in sports can’t compare tiger to silva in toughness. MMA fighters are the toughest athletes. maybe use the word, ‘determined’ or something.

The guy has absoloutely destroyed all of the opponents put in front of him. I understand with fighters contracts they usually are paid a set amount for a fixed number of matches but damn!!! Anderson Silva has shot to stardom by

Being the most convincing finisher in MMA today (maybe apart from BJ Penn)

Single handedly wiping out the middleweight division (apart

Being the most active champion that the MMA currently has

Sometimes he makes big purses but that is only by winning his matches plus the bonuses (sometimes winning more than one bonus in the night which says even more about how impressive he is). For example he only got paid $70,000 to show and the same to win at the last PPV.

So can someone explain to me if it is said that this org looks after their fighters why contracts don’t allow flexibility of pay with performance? And why the most dominant, exciting and dynamic champ today is getting paid $70K to show and win compared to

Henderson = $100,000
Sylvia = $100,000
Vera = $100,000
Rampage = $225,000

I’m not saying the guys above don’t deserve what they get just that pay parity means Anderson should be on a lot more. And for those of you who say marketability, maybe you could of said that 3 fights ago but now everyone knows

Also I’m not sure but he [Anderson] probaly signned a 6 fight contract he’s had his 6 matches but I’m sure there is a clause that if your contract terminates while you are champion another fight is automatically added, this way your contract will only expire if you loose (I believe Fedor wasn’t too happy about this clause) does this mean he’ll fight for the same amount till he looses?

Now, MMA is tough 2 – 3 times out of the year as that is pretty much how often the division champs are fighting, but so is professional golf. I would even say professional Tennis is tougher than MMA. Your out there with a group of up to 125 golfers who on any given day could win any tournament and Tiger does it on almost every start. Those of you who play know how rediculously amazing that is. Mentally, Golf is tougher than any sport out there. This coming from the javster who HATES watching golf, but I play often, so i know the game. Also, Tiger benches over 300 lbs. give him props!

2 or 3 times a year??? That seems pretty tough to me, but if you also consider the months they spend training for the fight are harder and more agonizing than the fight itself, then its definately tougher than golf to be an MMA champion, physically and mentally…no disrespect to Tiger though….also its kinda sad if I disagree with Fedor being ahead of Mayweather…I lover Fedor and hate Mayweather, but even Floyd has had a tougher schedule as of late than Fedor has.

That amount is just his base pay. It does not include KO bonuses or PPV bonuses, which I’m sure Dana is handing him in bunches. Neither I nor anyone else outside Silva’s camp and the UFC executive office knows exactly how much Silva takes home after a fight, but I would wager his total compensation is as high as anyone’s in the UFC.

As high as anyone except maybe for Chuck, I should say.

they only put 2 MMA fighters on this list & fedor is the 2nd.
IMO hes not even the 2nd best Hwt in MMA. he may have got the dec. against BigNog , but IMO BigNog is tougher. he survived everything that fedor threw at him.his opponents just cant finish him. i expect him to keep his belt for a while. IMO the only way BigNog can lose the belt is by dec. & the 1st 2 fighters that come to mind are fedor & randy. but thats just because that judges seem to favor wrestling over BJJ. by that i mean take downs,the judges always seem to use take downs as tie breaker in a close round.which is total B.S .just because a guy gets 1 or 2 more take downs shouldnt mean he won the round.
the 10 point must system has gotta go.if not then there should be more 10-10 or 9-9 rounds.theres nothing worse than seeing a guy win because he got a couple of TDs

I knew a caveman like you would pop up sooner or later. Your definition of “tough” is very narrow. Tiger has the most mental toughness out of any athlete in the world. Tiger has lost, but the dude NEVER chokes. Do you know how tough mentally you have to be to do that? How many people can do that in ANY line of work? Staying with athletes, look how many of them collapse when one little thing doesn’t go their way. Tiger gets pissed off, but he doesn’t let one bad shot get into his head. The guy has ice water running in his veins.

train hard so the fight is easy.
training for 2-4 months for a fight has got to be pretty tough thing to do. getting up everyday to train in all aspects of MMA requires mental toughness. fighters have to practice grappling and striking then work on strenth and cardio. training for 300 days a year seems alot tougher than playing in 20 golf tournaments. i not trying to say that tiger has no toughness , i just saying that,Anderson doesnt get enough credit because hes only fought 6 times in the UFC. there was a lot of traing going on i between fights.
 so IMO there should have been more a couple of more MMA fighters on this list.

OK fella’s, go and train. Train for a 5k, 10K race or a marathon. Train for a Karate competition. Train to get better at golf or a bowling competition, it’s hard. Getting up every day to push yourself mentally and physically. Tiger’s mental toughness is not a question, but I think that the #1 MMA fighter in the world has to have an incredible amount of mental toughness as well. Look at all the quiters and criers on TUF; it’s not easy.

BTW, the cancer survivor who’s won the iditarod is the toughest SOB out there. Not only did he beat cancer, he’s beat the iditarod….TWICE!! That is tough.

That Lance Mackey is tough as hell and should be on the top of this list! It takes both great mental and physical toughness to accomplish what he did. Tiger is tough mentally but I dont know what else is tough about winning PGA’s? I’d like to see what toughness scale they are measuring with. Maybe Tiger has some kind of major endorsement deal with SI :)

Javster… your kidding right? Tiger Benches over 300lbs. Well if you not…Sorry, but you think walking into a cage with the roar of the crowd behind you isn’t a pressure cooker. I bet if you do that once in your life and it could compare to 3 years of golf tournaments. The training regiment alone has it’s validation for toughness. People that are training for events are always having to nurse injuries from training and most of the time suck ‘em up and still fight. How many interviews do we see where guys are fighting with injuries hoping to make a paycheck. When was the last time you had to really sweat it out in a golf game? C’mon.

Maybe golf probably has degree of toughness but it is not on the same level. I guess we should define toughness.

Are you kidding? Not tough to win golf tournaments? No doubt its not as physically tough as mma i mean your not gonna come out bloodied up, but if you looked at how much time Tiger puts into training for golf tournaments and how much mental toughness it takes to be able to perform at a consistent level like Tiger does you would understand why he is ranked number 1. There has never been an athlete in any of our lifetimes who has been more dominant at there sport or had more mental toughness than him. If you haven’t played golf competitively before you probably wouldn’t understand but it is definately a mental battle and takes a lot of mental toughness to stay consistant at.

How did a golfer make #1? lol They’re more accurate than tough.

NEWS FLASH!!! At the Sac Kings vs Clippers game at Arco Arena, Sac, CA, its Olympics Night. Kurt Angle was present and was interviewed. He mentioned that he was fighting against Couture sometime in the fall, and was not allowed yet to mention which promotion!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree. Anderson Silva is a tough fighter, and his training is tough, but Tiger has to compete nearly 20 times a year. That is mental overload with focus as well as knowing that everyone, EVERY WEEK, is looking to just beat him. Some golfers consider just beating him as good as a championship. No one says that about ANY mma fighter(save crocop of 2005). As well, I would say what Roger Federer has recently done in tennis is tougher than what Anderson Silva is doing.

Actually, what Roger Feder has done the last 3 years is waaaaaaaaaaay better the ANY athlete out there hands down, IF we are condering toughness the way you guys are talking about it.
