Rampage Jackson sets the record straight on Wanderlei Silva and Forrest Griffin trash talk

rampage
Props: FightHype.com

Quoteworthy:

"I ain't talking bad about nobody. I didn't call him 'Forrest Weakchin.' If anything, I said I'm fighting Forrest Whitaker. I didn' call Wanderlei the 'Chump Murderer.' I ain't never said nothing like that. That is kind of disrespectful. I just said he was fighting chumps. If people want to put words in my mouth, they need to grow the hell up ... tell the fans out there that want to nitpick bout every lil' thang somebody say that I'm the type of fighter that is going to jump around and have fun with the sport; I'm not like these other fighters. I respect every fighter that gets in that cage. If somebody said something about me like that, I wouldn't even get mad; it's good. It helps hype up the fight. We in the fight business and we want people to go and buy the fight. I like Forrest, but I ain't got to talk sweet to him and hug up on him every time I see him. I can say whatever I want. I am in America and part of being in America is that we have freedom of speech, but I did not say Forrest Weakchin and Wanderlei Chump Murderer. I did not say those words, but I said along the lines that Forrest probably does ... I know inside stuff that people don't know. I know Forrest gets knocked out at practice sometimes; I know Jardine knocked him out real quick and I know my boy 'Sick Dog' almost knocked him out and he wasn' really even punching.... In what I do, we call that a weak chin. You can tell the fans I lost respect for them because they nitpicking about every damn thang. People always trying to find something to hate on me about. Tell all of the fans that Rampage ... at the end of the message, tell all of the fans that nitpick about every lil' damn thing we do to grow the hell up."

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson responds to recent reports like this and others. He's set to fight Griffin at UFC 86 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 5.

rampage is quick to say he doesnt talk smack, yet he has had all video clips of himself talking about wanderlei removed from the internet, funny that. i had a clip of him and wand in the ring and then his reply interview, it was removed from myspace videogoogle and youtube.

very weird

Honestly… why are people being such babies?! Rampage’s smack talk is hilarious! It’s not like he’s saying inappropriate stuff about his opponent’s respective families! I mean… who knew MMA fans were such wuss bags to get offended by a little smack talk. This isn’t the NFL where you get fined for offending the “honour” of the suits’ wives by jabbering at the jaw a bit. Come on people! Rampage isn’t holding out on the preseason camps like Chad Johnson. He’s been a huge benefit to the MMA world in the area of promotion, and he always comes ready to fight! Let him do his thing!

the man has no reason to pick on people, i totaly believe him.
he says it in every little interview “Where my paper at!?” thats his mind set and ofc he loves MMA altho he disagrees about that sometimes lol. nah he aint made like that.

honestly i was rly suprised when i saw all that “chump murderer”
for a sec i honestly thought “ah ok he could be like this. tv face is different then reality” but im happy to read this :)

I know this has nothing to do with the post but I thought I would ask you guys anyways. I just bought a new HDTV and for the first time I am deciding to get digital cable or satelite. At the moment all I have is regular analog cable with the basic channels. I am looking to find out what channels I should pick up with my new signal. I know I wanna get The Fight Network,HD Net Fights. The only channel I have with my basic cable at the moment is Spike. Thanks if you can help!

I guess he would be calling himself a chump seeing how the Axe Murderer murdered him twice. I like Rampage but he should really think about what he says sometimes. He also shouldn’t blame the fans for nitpicking at what he says because it sounds like to me it was the media that blew it out of proportion.

The fans never would have talked all that ##it about Rampage if he had not been talkin about Forrest. Forrest fans completely went nuts on Page last week, and Page is right, they do need to grow up. This guy jokes constantly, its just the way he is. He is not gonna change either, whether it causes the fans to hate him or not. I love the guy, and I personally can’t see why so many people hate on him all the time. No difference, all you Forrest fans that hate on Rampage so bad won’t be talkin so loudly when he gets KTFO.

I would like to see Jardine/Rampage…talk about an interesting fight.

did rampage really need to explain himself? whether its trash-talkin or just messin around, its all part of his personality. people who get personally offended (or just plain worked up) by fighters’ comments about other fighters are…well…the kind of people who need to get a life (in my humble opinion). trash-talkin is part of the sport, personalities are part the sport (e.g. tito, page, etc.), hyping up fights is part of the sport. but all of them take a back-seat to ‘the fight’. and really, thats all that matters right? i mean, we dont watch MMA to see who the best smack-talker is…or who this weeks ‘bad guy’ or ‘villain’ is. so all this talk is just that…talk. rampage is just being himself, theres no need need to defend himself from the ‘fans’.

This is all fight Hype. You take two of the most liked fighters in the game, who have nothing against each other. Throw a few words into the mix and boom, now you have a no love loss heated battle ahead. It’s all marketing.

GSP was all friendly friendly with Serra. Serra banged him out and now GSP is acting like Serra did something wrong. It’s all fight hype and the fans that get caught up in it, that’s all part of what the hype is trying to accomplish. They’ll all be buying PPV’s, so the UFC is like, Good job Rampage. Dana’s saying Cha Ching once again.

Rampage could tell me to f… off and I’d still be a fan. The guy has a good smack talk for MMA ala muhammad ali in which he can back it up, the sport does need ppl like him as he said. I wasn’t thrilled when he supposedly sad “chump murderer” but he didn’t lose any respect from me as a fan (just made me think that he was really referring to himself as a chump).

Rampage is great! Dig his attitude.

Regarding how long Rampage will be champ, that’s hard to say. Nobody has a crystal ball. I’d guess that he will beat Forrest, then he will once again face Liddell. Here’s hoping that fight will be at least as interesting as Rampage vs. Liddell I.

I wouldn’t be surprised if rampage spoke such things, but as with everything from his mouth, they must be taken with a grain of salt and a dose of laughter.

The real point that has been neglected, however, is that the Rampage Wanderlei demolished is not the Rampage fighting today. He’s clearly turned a page in his training and is a much better fighter now than he ever was in the PRIDE era.

On Rogers Digital, The Fight Network is included in their $8/month Sports package. It’s another $6/month to get the HD specialty channels which includes HDNet and ShowtimeHD. Unfortunately, we still can’t get VERSUS on cable, some satellite providers may carry it.

Rampage talks so much, he’s bound to say a few offensive things now n’ again. His follow-up comments weren’t much better. How could Wanderlei or Forrest not take those comments as offensive?

by THORAZINE on Mar 31, 2008 3:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m a little confused. When he was on the Opie and Anthony Show, Rampage was quoted as calling Silva the “Chump Murderer.”

They call him “The Axe Murder” because he destroys people in his fights. They threw him chumps and he murdered them. Look at his record of guys he fought. This guy is “The Chump Murderer”. I speak my mind around him and he looks at me all crazy like I shouldn’t be saying that.

Now maybe this was misquoted, but that’s what was run and I have a feeling it was accurate.

don’t get me wrong, I never mind hearing Rampage speak his mind, so I’m definitely not hating.

I only point it out because, at the same time, Rampage should stick by what he said. Maybe he forgot he said it, but I think he still said it. Stick to those guns, ’Page.

exactly, page wasn’t talking about today, he was talking about the times in pride when he supposedly called wandy the “chump murderer”. but then again he said he didn’t say those things but he did say he called wandy’s adversaries “chumps”. If he really believed that, he was calling himself a chump.

I agree that today a fight between the two might be different, not only because it’s a cage but also because of the changes in camp. although I agree that page is with a much better camp, wandy has gone to extreme couture and that can also help him out in a cage (more than it would to keep trainning with CB). I hope the fight happens again in the future, I wouldn’t count wandy out.

Who wouldn’t love to see this fight happen? Too bad rampage is on a shelf for TUF and Wanderlei, with 3 straight losses, is not close to being a top contender. Let’s hope the forces of the universe align and we get to see the newer versions of these great fighters clash in a cage.

Rampage has an iron chin and a right hook from hell. He has already shown that he doesn’t defend his title much so I see him with the belt for at least 3 more years. If he did it for the money then he would defend his belt more IMO. The more you fight the more money you make and that is why Chuck is so rich. I would like to see him defend his title two to three times a year like Chuck, then he can see he is about his money.

Yeah, he could potentially coach the next three seasons of TUF and only have to defend his title 3 times in the next three years.

Dam!!! I hate this guy, he says for people to grow up when he can’t even sit down and have a serious interview, always turning to the camera, saying something stupid, or talking about paper. Who is Rampage kidding saying that Wanderlei has fought chumps? His fight record reads like a who’s who of the pride fighting championships. And does he consider himself a chump? Because after all we’ve all senn the clip of Quentin getting knocked out through the ropes by the ‘chump murderer’. One of the nastiest knockouts I’ve seen…. he didn’t llok like a chump that night.

Brass tax is this: Quentin Jackson owns the UFC belt for one reason… he has Liddell’s number. I won’t be the least bit surprised if Forrest ‘glass jaw’ Whitaker, or whatever he called him, wins thier upcoming fight. Let’s not forget that Griffin just whooped the last man to beat Rampage.

Oh, by the way… I have XM radio and listen to Opie and Anthony religiously. I heard the interview, and he definitely calls the man who knocked him out twice the “chump murderer”. Maybe all those stomps to the head in the Rua fight gave him some brain damage.

“I think that if I fought Wanderlei Silva in the UFC I would have beat him. Wanderlei was the Chuck Liddell of Pride. If you were beating Wanderlei on the ground, the referee’s would stand you right up. It happened to me. It happened to other fighters that fought him…. Me and Silva don’t even talk to each other. Silva is the type of guy that thinks everyone should be afraid of him. The way I react around him is different. I am not afraid of Wanderlei Silva. They call him "The Axe Murder’ because he destroys people in his fights. They threw him chumps and he murdered them. Look at his record of guys he fought. This guy is “The Chump Murderer.’ I speak my mind around him and he looks at me all crazy like I shouldn’t be saying that. I think some of the referees took payoffs in Pride. my thoughts on trash talk are this, if you as a fighter get intimidated by it you chose the wrong profession. also nothing makes a fighter or any athlete look like more of a tool then flapping their jaw before a fight/game and then getting their ass wooped. is it good for the fans and the hype factor?? i suppose for some fans it is, i for one don’t pay much mind to it, i would watch WWE if that was my thing.
