I like fights were a dude gets swept and taken down…then gets up, turns his back and slowly walks away shaking his head and wagging his finger.
I havent watched pro wrestling since I was a kid…and i felt like i just did. I know Franks arm is broken, but turn your back to anderson or gsp or wanderlei and see what happens.
I also dont get why frank let him up from the two times he could have controlled him on the ground. that was a weird weird weird fight.
i liked it…but it was weird.

Cung le might outstrike silva i think

by matthew on Mar 30, 2008 2:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You know i’ve always sort of thought the way to beat A. Silva is to outstrike him. No easy feat, i know, but i think its sort of like a chuck thing. Everyone wanted to take chuck down to beat him, to avoid his striking but the way to beat chuck is to just outstrike him.
Cung Le has the best chance of beating A.Silva right now IMO; but i think Silva would take it narrowly.

I think it was a little show of respect from Le that he didn’t jump on his back…. Plus he knew he was picking Frank apart. They gave the fans a great show. Next fight for Frank will be Tito I bet. Both big mouths and they will hype it up lots.

Silva has a longer reach I think. I would be hesitant to pick Le, give him another 5 fights and see where he is.

great… now we’ve got to hear how Le is just as good as Anderson. When will it stop :\

It’s funny how people get so worked up on Cung Le. He’s good but not great, he caught Frank with good strikes & lots of kicks and didn’t even rock him, he’s got no power. He had to kick Frank for four rounds to do that. You guys saying that he should fight Anderson Silva are crazy, Silva would crush him.

by JV on Mar 30, 2008 3:10 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

all i know is Cung le better be happy for the injury. Fourth round frank would probably have finished it as Frank gave him put a beating on him in the third and it was total survival mode for Cung le. Rematch definitely id say early next year.

U guy’s need to pump your brakes?!? Anderson would destroy Le!!! Did anybody else see Le gasing??? Shamrock would have beat Le in the fourth round.!. Anderson is much taller and would have a field day with lil Le in the clinch… Shamrock kinda had those knees goin tonight and Le was lucky he didn’t get caught… Remember its mma and Anderson is just not good, hes the best… Hey, if you dont believe me just ask that Rich Franklin guy?;)

In no way is Cung Le a better striker than Anderson Silva. Cung Le was on his way to being KO’d by Frank Shamrock! Think about it, Frank Shamrock almost KO’ing him. Imagine what would happen if he stepped into the cage against Silva. With the signing of Kazuo Misaki Strikeforce, lets hope Misaki will not be an idiot like Frank and take Le down. Kazuo Misaki will win Cung Le. Mark my words!!!!

Traitors, Most your guys was for (4 to 1) Frank. Now you guys try to find him another opponent just after this fight. Please give him a long break to improve his ground fight then you can talk traitors…

Hey expert, fighting is not a quick finish or a knock punch. You could do an attrition fight (it’s call a guerrilla war) and you win by killing your opponent slowly…expert

My friend the thing with Silva is that everyone want to fight a stand up fight with himn because they say he is a precise striker (which he is), so they can prove is not that great. Anderson freak out when Okami was on him and landed some heavy punches. Both don’t speak enghlish and both are professional fighters who know the rules …so tell me now why Anderson pushed the referee and try to fight agaian (that’s his weakness (I think…cheer)

My genius mathematician JV, the fight stop at 3nd round. How many fight in MMA did you see anyone got a broken arm, especially someone tough as Frank… Keep playing your Nintendo because you can’t see bones break on TV genius!!!

All this Le Silva talk Lol!!! Regardless of the random loss, id rather see Frank and Silva than Le and Silva. No contest, Frank Vs A. is a much better fight. The UFC has brought back coleman, Tank (for Kimmo), even Royce, why not Fank (the Shamrock with the talent!)

silva would make this guy his new chris leben… the fight would be over in under a minute by brutal KO by silva

beating a guy who isnt widely regarded as a top 10 fighter doesnt mean your even close to being able to hang with the spider

Oh c’mon. Watch an Anderson Silva fight. He likes to strike. Primarily because he has skills. Hence his desire for fight Roy Jones Jr. If you think about it, a fight with Cung would be an awesome striking battle. Cung is a K1 champ. Anderson likes to bang and he’s one of the best. Cung (style wise) is a great test to Anderson. Don’t be so thick headed.

by damaja on Mar 30, 2008 8:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I watch Anderson Silva, He s fast, long reach elbow and knee.
Cung Le is smart steady balance and flexible, good at avoid contacts ( conserve energy) and excellent in strikes however not accute servre damage as knee or elbow on the head or face. If his strike defence keeps off long reaches of Silva till round 3rd. Silva will give up enventually unless Silva s is able to break his strikes shield soon.

by Van on Mar 30, 2008 9:04 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

btw, I nerver see the heel swing onto the face. it must be awesome. If that happens it would be worse damage i ever imagine in fights, instantly blow the face off with a big hammer. Hope this scenerio won’t happen to Silva.

by Van on Mar 30, 2008 9:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Come on, Roy Jones Jr. now and in 10 years would beat spider’s ass in strikes.
Cung Le is quick and canget out of most takedowns, Spider has the reach and is not especially quick. Any here can talk, but most of you were saying Frank would kill Cung, didn’t happen. Cung would have knocked Frank out in the 4th, Frank was gassed and had 1 arm.
Cung Le will win the rematch by round 2. Cung Le would beat spider with his speed and strikes. But, if spider catches Cung on the ground, it’s over.

He deserved to lose. Period.

CUNG LE ….VS….SMOKIN JOE VILLASENOR GUARENTEED

Adam G: we will never see Frank in the UFC again…FACT. Shamrock is one of the toughest guys to deal and negotiate with.
He would ask for a ridiculous amount of money that he doesnt even come close to deserving. EliteXC has to pay him like that because he is one of the faces of its organization….

Forget about Frank in the UFC. For the Frank Shamrock fans (which I am not one of them), you get to look forward to:

Frank vs. Ken
Frank vs. tito (just a gut feeling tito ends up there)
and I am sure we will see a rematch between Frank vs. Le.

I love how everytime a fighter has a good performance, people are already saying Le vs. Silva. I knew I would see those kinds of posts on this site today.

Forget about the skills, Silva is just too tall, strong and has a tremendous reach advantage over Le. Silva could fight at 205 lb, Le should be fighting at 170 lbs….Get the point. Forget that they are in seperate organizations…this fight will never happen anyway.

No fighter that is with an established MMA company such a Elite XC would go to the UFC..

Dana White and his band of Mafia midgets have painted the UFC into a corner. Once Elite makes there primetime appearance, every fighter thst is a fighter, will abandon the UFC ship…aka the “MMA Titanic”

Silva needs to fullfill his contract with the UFC, then sign a more lucrative one with Elite.

Damn I hate the UFC!

We all know that Cung’s ground game is lacking, but to say “just take him down” is A LOT easier said than done. He does have solid wrestling, balance, and scrambling skills. Remember when everybody was saying this about Chuck? Chuck has never been subbed despite not owning a BJJ belt because he can keep it on the feet, or if not, he can get back up.

Agree wholeheartedly. To compare Le to Silva today is absurd. Shamrock wasn’t even trying to win in the first two and a half rounds – he was trying to extend the fight and entertain the crowd.

Anderson would beat the sh*t out of Le easily I’d be suprised to see it go beyond 2 rounds. Anderson is the superior striker and has a great ground game. Le is a good striker but not Silva’s league and his ground game is a no no :)

I think one thing is certain. This was a great fight. I liked to see Le not give up and land that last kick that ended it, but fourth round and it was over for Le in my opinion. He was hurt and tired. As well, i agree a shamrock vs. silva fight is more marketable than a Le vs. Shamrock. And last, it was great to see fighters who were fighting because they truly love the sport. Really not worried about the money, more worried about the respect.

by Javster on Mar 30, 2008 5:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The fight was terrible. If Frank really wanted to win he would have took it to the ground. He fought like an idiot and didnt seem to care if he lost.

As for Cung Le you can kill the oh he so great stuff now. This is MMA not kickboxing or K1. If you dont have more then striking you arent gonna go far. The guy is 6-0 against some very average opponents. He may have beat Frank but that was not the best of Frank(not even sure he should be paid the guy didnt really try to win). Quit the Anderson Silva talk. Cung Le isnt ready and hes not even in the UFC.

Its still kind of early to mention Anderson Silva and Cung Le in the same sentence, but regardless that was a MEAAAN looking kick, and a great photo!! You would think Frank wouldn’t be so dumb to jus stand in front of it. DANG!

I can’t believe some people are saying that Le should fight Anderson Silva. Silva would destroy Cung Le, not even a contest. For Le to have a chance in the UFC he would have to drop down to 170 and then I think GSP would kill him. GSP would take him down and destroy him. I think he better stay in Elite XC. Now on Frank. He is cocky and in this fight he was to cocky for his own good. He tried to stand with a champion kickboxer and he got picked apart. Le might not have great power but when you get hit and kicked repeatedly it takes your stamina and in this case I guess it gets your arm broken also. With Franks pride he wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see and that was a stand up war but if he wanted to win he should have fought his fight. He should have taken Le down and worked GNP and looked for submissions.
