UFC Quick Quote: Tim Sylvia to make huge announcement this Friday

tim sylvia

"On Friday, around 12:00, I've got a couple of big announcements to make about my career. So all of my loyal fans will want to stay tuned to my website because this is huge."

-- Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia -- who has one fight remaining on his current contract with the promotion -- reveals via his official Web site that "huge" news about his career is forthcoming. Setting a date and time seems a bit strange ... wonder what it could be?

If he makes an announcement that he is going to be leaving, than the UFC is going to just sweep him under the rug. I dont see him making that announcement with one fight left on his contract. I do on the other hand see him making an announcement on how he will stop hunting deer… AND START HUNTING HUMANS!!! MWUA HA HA HA

I’m willing to bet an announcement like this means he’s switching training camps… no way is he going to announce he’s leaving the UFC.

If he signs with EliteXC, and Fedor does, and Andrei does, you have the best Heavyweight division in MMA. Add to that Kimbo, Ricco, and others and it is a good divison. With the CBS deal it will be huge. Tim loves Tim and Tim will love seeing himself on CBS. Think how much Dana will love Shaw now, and add to that EliteXC could make Couture vs. Fedor happen and we may see Dana expletive Gary Shaw like crazy

Very likely he’ll switch organization.

He’ll pull an Arlovski, fight his last fight against some monkey like Herring or Kongo then move elsewhere for bigger money.

Like Tim or hate him, he’s underpaid for a former champion. And while he doesn’t deserve the BS money Elite XC is dumping, he does deserve more than the 100k that he gets.

by liukangstoupee on Mar 27, 2008 12:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i reckon hes goin to M-1 Global and will fight Fedor.

his agent monte cox runs M-1 so its pretty logical.

Fedor vs Silvia is alot better than Fedor vs Hong Man Choi, hahaha.

its definitely a fight i want to see, as Fedor is in dire need for top 10 competition.

Did you just say “He’ll pull an Arlovski”?

Because, if you did, you are implying that he will be getting screwed, thrown on the undercard against a boring matchup in order to try and decrease his value as a free agent.

“pull an Arlovski”. You’re an idiot. That is official.

And, I dont think Tim is going to announce he’s leaving the UFC. If he did that, he would all but guarantee he would get “Arlovskied” by Dana. He’s probably just announcing that he enjoys screwing men, and that he thought Horton Hears A Who was a great movie.

loyal?

First of all, Tim vs Kimbo; Kimbo gets sliced trying to come into Tim’s reach. Second, if EliteXC manages to put up the paper necessary to sign Fedor, Tim, Arlovski and pay them better than Kimbo (which is what they would have to) I call EliteXC bankrupt by November.

Let me give you all a history lesson which is generally forgotten when stars are born; Tim, GSP, Couture, Liddell, all of these guys would have second jobs if it weren’t for the UFC. Let’s be real and not put the horse before the cart; stars don’t make the UFC; the UFC makes stars. Now you may think that that sucks, but still; don’t be suckered into thinking anything else; and that’s real talk. Seriously, let’s watch Shaw try and do it backwards; scramble to try and sign Fedor, Couture, and Tim. It will only make him and Pro-Elite bankrupt in the end.

#1Id have to say whats going to happen is hes going to announce that he will resign with the UFC for like 4 more fights and they will be his last fights of his MMA Career.

#2Or hes gonna pull an April fools joke. More then likely doh #1

Kimbo Vs Tim would be a great match if Tim doesnt take Kimbo down which more then likely he would try and do. I doubt he would want to strike with him, not to say that Kimbo>tim but Kimbo is damn good striker so why risk anything.

Its been stated here…but if Tim does leave for EliteXC and Arlovski follows, that will be a HUGE loss for the UFC. They’ve already lost CroCop. Kongo’s stock has fallen since his loss to Herring. A Herring vs. Nog 3 doesn’t sound tasty at all.

Who else will head to XC? Ortiz? Randy? Barnett?

Man…this is going to be interesting the direction MMA is going. Hope not the same path as boxing…

RE-sign.

He’s got one fight left. No way he’s announcing his departure from UFC. Do you honestly think Dana would let him get away with all the huge MMA related events happening outside of the UFC recently. Dana can’t afford to let Sylvia go. Even though he’s boring in his fights, he’s a huge name for the division and the UFC cant afford to lose anymore HW’s.
Come on people. You’re acting like the UFC don’t know what they’re doing. The guy is going to be in the UFC and I would put money that before it’s all said and done, Arlovski, Couture and maybe at the end of it all, FEDOR will be in the UFC.

If he leaves the UFC it will be a major damage to the promotion. He is a good fighter in a division that lacks great fighters, they need to get more HWs (cough, fedor, cough) and not get rid of what they have in-house. AA seems to be leaving as well, UFC is shooting themselves in the foot if you ask me. Doesn’t matter if ppl like big timmey or not (I HATE THE GUY!) but the UFC needs him.

by linx on Mar 27, 2008 7:01 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He’s gonna sign with an organization that does NOT test for roids so he might even knock an opponent out instead of winner by massive cuddling!! HA HA :)

On a more serious note, there’s going to be NO HWs left soon that anyone wants to watch bar Lesnar IF he improves. Dana best get some cash spent. The other weight classes are tanked with talent. HW in UFC will soon be in danger of ending up like HW boxing…. CRAP!

by MrAngry on Mar 27, 2008 7:12 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’ll make this clear, i hate Timmy. But if he leaves that would be a massive blow to the UFC. He put in a good performance against Nog so a rematch down the road seems very possible.

Make no mistake the heavyweight division in the UFC is $hit and is desperate for some big names. If Tim and AA go then they might as well just retire the belt.

I find it hard to believe that Dana/UFC will allow themselves to be outbid by Elite. However what we don’t know is the amount of ‘pocket money’ Elite have earnt from their deal.

CBS may well have said “here is a big ass bag of money” make this work, sign some names.

He would beat kimbo within an inch of his life.

Tim is to big and most of all too skilled on the feet for Kimbo to even think about surviving. If he had a ground game maybe but since his entire ability revolves around slugging it out he would be in big big trouble fast against Timmy.

Best possible scenario is that the UFC has signed Fedor and Sylvia will fight him in his 1st fight…..Shove it right up Randy’s ass!

I would rather see Fedor destroy Sylvia then beat up Randy any day. I actually am starting to believe that Randy doesnt even deserve a fight against Fedor.

What qualifications does he have at HW that make him deserve to fight Fedor?
Just Wishful thInking!

Seriously what could this news be? I for one, am not going ot go crazy discussing it all day because to many times someone in the UFC plans a big announcement and then it turns out to be nothing of relevance. I mean seriously, what’s the big announcement:

Sylvia has officially learned to wipe his butt?

He is getting surgery on his webbed feet?

Is he going to be the next contestant on Dancing with the stars?

What the hell can sylvia possibly say of any importance?

As much as we dont like Sylvia, if he leaves the UFC it will be a huge blow to the UFC’s heavyweight division!

I am hearing rumors everywhere that Sylvia vs. fedor in EliteXC.
This cant be true. with still 1 fight left on his UFC contract would Sylvia even be able to make an announcement like that tomorrow, while still under contract with the UFC? Could he even begin negotiating with other organizations while under contract?

The UFC doesn’t let fighters use their water fountains with out getting permission. So could it be possible that Tim negotiated with an other organization while still under UFC contract……..Highly doubtFull!

Very good point Linx because you are absolutely right. I was the 1st one who posted that he may announce that he is a coach on TUF, but I stand corrected, u r absolutely right because I am willing to bet anything that the announcement of the next season of TUF will come from Dana during the live broadcast of next weeks UFN event which is followed by the 1st episode of TUF 7

Although after the CBS deal they do have money to maybe sign a few more fighters but Sylvias marketability is pretty poor so I dont think Shaw would really be interested in him and offering stupid amounts of money.

he said annoucements not annoucement, meaning there are a couple things. i think he will resign and be named tuf coach for next sept along with frank mir or that he will resign and fight frank mir or kongo in a co main event in vegas this july. there is no way slyvia is leaving the ufc, besides he still has a fight left on contract and we know how the ufc handles contract’s with one fight left they prolong the last fight up to a year unless a deal is made. tim wouldn’t annouce anything of the sort of leaving if he were, he would do it after his last fight on his contract to annouce something like that. with that said i have no idea why he has to wait till fri and noon, unless it’s a conference of sort.

i hope it resigning even though i would like to see him fight KIMBO, it would suck for the UFC to lose him. a camp change also might help. things dont seem so good in the Miletech camp right now. leading up to his fight against BigNog when they showed him training he mentioned that things just werent the same at MFS elite, with the camp splitting up. Hughes & Lawler went to form the HIT squad & Jeremy Horn is in Utah. since those guys moved on maybe its time for him to move on as well. ATT seems like a good choice but that may eliminate any possible fights against the Baby Faced Assassin in the future. maybe if he patches things up with Randy he can train Extreme Couture in Vegas. it would be hilarious if he went Brazil & joined chutebox academy, imagine how easy it would be for him to knee opponents in head or face from the clinch. with his height it something he should do more often, that head kick on Tre Trauma Telligman was awesome.

I agree, Tim Sylvia would be a huge loss for the UFC. He if he is even in the top 5 HWs in the world it is barely but he always seems to get submitted. He needs to study some more BJJ because he was just a ground game away from beating Nog’s ass. Losing Tim Arlovsky Randy= Who the F#*k is going to challeng Nog.

I don’t think he has signed with anyone else, especially given the nature of UFC contract negotiations going into a final fight. I would not be suprised to hear him say that he will no re-sign with the UFC, and will effectively become a free agent after his next fight. No way he is the next TUF coach unless he was signed past just one fight. My guess: Tim announces that he will become a free agent, switch camps to ATT, and will be open to signing a one fight contract for a superbout w/Fedor under whatever organization is willing to pay them the most – maybe DREAM. The only reason I say that is because it looks like Fedor only wants one fight contracts at the moment.

its to bad that Dana is the 1 who makes announcments about TUF cause him & Mir would have been an awesome rematch at the end of the show. but i dont think Tim has got enough skills to teach, cause he cant teach 6 foot 8 & ability to take a punch. dont get me wrong i big fan of the Maineiac but training with Frank a guy could prbably learn quite a bit.

please Tim re-sign with the UFC.

Hope not the same path as boxing…

iT WOULD BE nOG hERRING 4!!!!!!!

I think he will be announcing that him, and Frank Mir will be fighting a rematch after they are coaches for the next TUF..

I dont think he will be leaving the UFC..

I hope him and Mir are the next coaches, so that no title fights will be held up for months

Im suprised that no one has thought of Sylvia/Mir-2, and them being the next coaches on The Ultimate Fighter..

This makes some of the most sence so far. Tim might be a good coach and I think that Mir would be also.

I would rather him stay in the UFC, kind of need the HW’s, but if he stays, he could one day get another title shot, wouldn’t be a surprise, and I’m guessing most people don’t want that.

He was born a woman?
He wants to be a magician?
He wants to go back to be a circus freak?

Suspense is killing me.

He has a rash on his genitals that prevents him wearing cotton underpants???

I’m sorry to disappoint everybody but some of the big news is going on this weekend. I’m going hunting with Gary LaVox from Rascal Flats. Driving down to Tennessee tomorrow to start turkey hunting. My hunting DVD comes out in four weeks, but this will be on next year’s hunting DVD. Now if you guys were expecting anything else, then you might want to watch HD Net Friday night, Inside MMA. Stay tuned for more. -Tim

Just sayin this to be sayin it, but, it’s been said quite a bit “if Tim leaves and Arlovski follows”, I dont think Andrei is leaving. I saw an interview a while back where Dana was talking about Andrei, and how it was brought to his attention that Andrei wasn’t “feeling the love” from the UFC. Dana said it was his fault that Andrei didn’t feel respected and that Dana was personally going to try and fix the problems with Andrei, which he created. Now, I don’t think this was just lip service, cause Dana has a massive ego, and for him to publicly say he screwed, I think he was being pretty genuine. And with all the crazy stuff going on with people leaving and people signing here and there, especially with EliteXC on the rise, Dana knows he cant let top notch fighters get away. Andrei is a fighter the UFC cannot afford to lose, and Dana knows it. So, I think he’s gonna make sure Andrei stays put.
