Is it just me? or did it take alot longer to get this site up then other ones
I cant wait for this card…even though I think it should have a couple more Top fighters on it, I am really looing forward to GSP/Serra-2…..Hope my boy GSP re-claims his gold, and then get to defending it, like he was supposed to before the Serra incident…
I hope Serra doesn’t get in his head….GSP needs to avenge this one…..

Looking from the wesite..it doesn’t look like Serra is in his head. They’re both very confident but i think that St Pierre will do away with Serra quickly and get his belt back

i like serra, i don’t see this being another knockout, but just look at rampage v. liddel, no one thought that could happen either. i think serra is still being overlooked, he has a very strong skill set that gsp has to deal with. i honestly think gsp is on the top of his game, but serra might have his number. i’ll take the underdog from l.i. on this one (can’t sleep on those l.i. boys, except that guy serra had to fire b/c he was whining about his girl…)

Can ANYONE help me out,i was just watchin the Anderson Silva vs Lee Murray fight. Does anybody know what Anderson handed Murray at the end of the fight?? It pissed Murray off cuz he threw it right back at Silva… ANYONE KNOW?

Just because you beat a fighter the first time, doesn’t mean you can do it again (i.e. gsp-hughes, Big Tim-arlovski, Chuck-Randy) but then again manny ppl have beat fighters more than once (rampage-chuck, wanderlai-rampage, anderson-franklin)
i just think that gsp is more skilled and will come out on top because he is 100% focused

then why isnt nick diaz universally considered the top lightweight? one fight doesnt make your whole career. especially if you previously lost to shonie carter.

i believe it was another mouth piece. just not the one he was wearing. maybe it had something on it from silva’s camp because considering how big of a mouthpiece murray is i’ll bet he disrespected both silva and his crew.

Serra is a good fighter, not a GREAT fighter, lets take a look at Serra’s resume, he is best known for getting caught with a spinning back fist from Shonie Mr. International Carter…. Hmmmm lol. Also IMO i do believe Chris Lytle won the match on Tuf to fight for the Championship. I think everyone fell in love with Serra’s persona and character that the judge’s scored that one for him. Im am a HUGE and i cannot emphasize HUGE enough, GSP fan, The guy is awesome. But im sure this battle will be tougher than everyone thinks, dont count Serra out, he is a sneaky little midget, but hopefully Revenge will be served. Because revenge is best served on a cold platter

Oh and for those of you making the arguement agaisnt Jake Shields as a top WW that he cant hang with UFC top competition, he has beaten Jon Fitch in a grappling tourny, adn I just became aware he beat Yushin Okami in ROTR, although it was an even fight, it was a UD.

no doubt that Jake Sheilds would instantly join the top 5 welterweights if he joins the UFC. However, I am not so sure that he is ready for GSP yet.

Don’t get me wrong I am a huge GSP fan and I am pulling for him to win, but don’t count out Matt Serra. He gives everyone a tough fight and who knows he might be GSP’s Kryptonite. Deep down I think GSP will win, but not as easily as everyone seems to think. I really like St. Pierre, but if he’s still thinking about that loss and is trigger shy then he may be in for a long night against Serra. GSP’s only weakness over the years has been his head, and if Matt Serra is in his head then we may se an upset.

Serra will win this fight by submission. RNC?
Maybe he’ll then get the respect he’s due.

If you get back fisted into a KO by a goof like S.Carter you dont deserve any respect yet. But get two W’s against GSP two fights in a row and he’ll have more respect than he can handle, ie; headhunters like Hughes, Fitch, Penn (Again), S.Carter3, Karo, etc . . . Wherever the money points him. Lose and fall off the UFC landscape for good! I just want a good fight if it might be Serra’s last, it was a nice 1 fight reign Matt.

The only thing I truly hate about this fight is it is in Montreal. GSP may be so pressured to win due to the main event of the first UFC Championship card in Canada and it is in his hometown.

Gsp is so going to completely destroy serra this time, I love how over confident serra is…awesome it will make him losing that much more sweet. Serra looks like a total moron in his photo LOL he takes himself way too seriously. Too many morons on this site, does anyone here realize how rare hits like the one serra did on gsp are, hit behind the ear messing up the fighters equalibrium, I’ve NEVER seen it happen before, some freak hit and everyone’s acting like he’s anderson silva. How many people did serra ever t(ko)…….oh ya 1,the freakish one shot wonder hit. He looks absolutely horrible against lytle, one of the most boring fights I’ve ever seen, has the most perfect fight of his life against an unprepared gsp and now he has gsp’s number?, what a load of B.S. Gsp over all is a much better striker than serra with all things being equal…both well prepared, gsp is just on an other level, sorry serra fans this will become painfully clear to you all april 19. Serra is a good fighter but gsp is a gifted top notch fighter, serra will be out classed this time. I predict gsp to t(ko) serra within 3 rounds.

Serra along with most on this site are delusional and are placing way to much emphasis on his last fight, can anyone with any common sense really see serra landing a perfect shot again like that? It seems like some have only watched that one fight, gsp looked slower, moved much more stiff than usual and serra has never looked better, he had a perfect evening. Most top fighters have at least one evening were everything goes perfectly and this was serra’s night. If I watched gsp’s last 5 fights and serra’s last 5 fights there absolutely NOTHING to make me believe he’ll beat gsp come april 19. Gsp will own him standing and one the ground if its a normal night, for serra to win he needs to have the best night of his life and needs gsp to have his worst. I think gsp beat serra 9 times out of 10 fights , serra already beat gsp once and gsp would beat serra 9 times in a row if they fought 9 nights in a row.

Yeah me niether, but I think it did show alot about him that he was able to hang with a MW, and an excetionally strong one at that, I don’t think GSP’s level of strength would be completley alien to him.

Even for the ppl that like Serra and want GSP to loose it makes a lot more sense for GSP to kick Serras ass because of the possible matchups Hughes vs Serra anyone!!! if Serra somehow wins again this fight will never happen unless its kinda like Chuck vs Wandy where DANA just said fuck it and made it happen but there isnt enough hype for it, Hughes would have to beat 1-2 top fighters in WW fitch, karo, diego, kos, to be considered for title shot, anywho we could also watch fitch vs GSP next for title, and then GSP vs Karo 2 one that would be good is Hughes vs Kos damn lots of fights in the future… GSP undisputed WW champ april 19th 2008!!!!!!

Gsp has beat BETTER competition than BJ and he destroyed hughes twice in the 2nd round, something bj can’t even fathom..and i don’t wanna hear shit how he gassed..IF he was so good he would have finished hughes in their last bout….it’s not like he gassed in the 2nd..And i’m sure if gsp wanted to, he could put on some weight and loose decisions to ppl in higher weight classes
by Patty on Mar 24, 2008 12:06 PM EDT reply actions
I think the ppl that are saying gsp will loose, or want him to loose have some personal issues with him because he beat one of their fav fighters and when he beats ppl, it’s usually a one sided domination that embarasses his opponent (trigg, sherk, hughes 2wice, koscheck, miller etc)
He’s definately the best at 170, so why all the hate?

I’m rooting for Serra on this one because all the Serra doubters and GSP bandwagon riders piss me off. Last fight, Serra exposed GSP’s telegraphic striking. People who can’t intelligently debate that call it a lucky shot. I know you can’t believe it but it WAS superior striking! I like the way Serra smiled at GSP just before dropping him. Next fight, he’ll do it again if GSP wants to stand up with Serra. But I GAURENTEE you GSP will go for the takedown, lay and pray “strategy” as he did in the last 2 fights. Too bad he’ll slip his long arms into a submission Serra can get, on the way down, or from his back: gulletine, triangle choke, gogo, or maybe transition to an armbar, better yet transition to RNC. done deal. its a rap. Off topic, BJ would ROMP GSP in a rematch.

Hes a cool cat, great fighter (Penns Better IMO) and he does his talking in the cage . . . no ones hating here, just saying matt might get random on ’em (GSP by tapout after a brutal standup cluster to an armbar on the ground!) GSP is a nice guy. Its hard not to like him after he dismissed the interim-ww belt saying that Serra has the “real” belt. He destroyed Kos and Hughes in wrestling which says ALOT. But there’s people on this site that think he’s GOD’s sent answer to Anderson Silva which I find hilarious. I’m putting a dub on Serra and calling this UPSET of the year!

Can I get some of what you’re smoking? Last time I checked strikes to the back of the head are illegal in mma. But they didn’t want to DQ Serra because it was a title match—look at what serra has done since then (jack). now look at what GSP has done—beaten two of the top 5 fighters in the weight class.

Everyone on this site (adam G) is bashing Serra saying he is too cocky. How would you like the man to act. He is a solid mma veteran, who has put a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears in mma, he got a shot on TUF and made the most of it, earning a shot at then champion GSP. He dominated GSP, knocked him out really bad and everyone in the world has been bashing him and still underestimating him. How the hell is he supposed to act? i would be pissed off too if I was Serra!
Keep in mind that a lot of the trash talk is just to build hype for the upcoming fight.

LOL Yeah, GSP was so “exposed” that Kos and Hughes were able to dominate him right? Serra has finished his opponent exactly twice in 10 UFC fights, and all of a sudden he WILL finish GSP on the feet or on the ground? Hilarious. Serra has great BJJ, he’s had excellent performances at ADCC, but his BJJ skills haven’t translated into finishes in the UFC. He’s used it more to get out of submissions, as he’s never been submitted and I don’t think ever will, except maybe if he fights BJ again. The one guy he did submit in the UFC was a can. And he’s got KO power, but his striking is not technical, it’s more haymaker style like Wandy, Hendo, and to some extent Rich Franklin. GSP is more of a Chuck Liddell type striker. Serra was the smarter fighter last time, but this time GSP has MMA mastermind Greg Jackson in his corner. I believe that the only better strategist in MMA is Randy Couture.

Remember how hughes completely embarrassed Royce Gracie a very accomplished(more than serra)blackbelt on the ground?, and f**k off with the idea that he’s over the hill, he wasn’t even 40, today thats not that old. Well my friend gsp just humiliated hughes and submitted him on the ground within 2 rounds. Gsp will win this fight anyway he wants standing or on the ground. Gaining a superior position mixed with raw strength will over come a hell of a lot, just ask Royce about Hughes. He did pretty good against bj penn a much better bjj fighter in an MMA sense, penn never came close to submitting gsp and gsp passed his guard 3 seconds before the horn. On a NORMAL night gsp would do circles around serra in the striking department, you obviously don’t know talent when you see it, and for the record I agree serra did look good at ufc 69, and I also thought gsp looked off.

Good points patty, there’s something I’ve wanted to point out for a while with the penn/hughes 2 fight. When did penn look the most impressive against hughes? The answer is AFTER he broke his rib, took hughes back and nearly submitted him only to get defeated in the third round. Everyone is using the broken rib as an excuse for his loss but he only looked good AFTER, I repeat AFTER he broke his rib. He lost most of the second round…healthy then seperates his rib and almost defeats hughes, sorry not buying the whole rib thing. Penn burned himself out going for the subs and had NOTHING left for the third round, very bad when fighting someone like hughes, just my 2 cents.

No I was just talking to you dude!

Matt Serra is good. Georges is great. Hope Georges wins, it means a lot.

TRUE!
Amen, totally agree. Couldn’t have said it better, serra is top 10, gsp is the top, but being a better fighter doesn’t guarantee a win. I also really want georges to win as he’s my favorite fighter and I’m not watching UFC anymore if he loses again, I couldn’t take it.

He didnt defend 3 take down attempts (one of them lasting almost a minute and a half)? He didnt pick apart Hughes slowly but surely with standup?? He didnt attempt 2 subs in round two??? All before the broken rib . . . ? Going for his back did BJ in and no rib means no strength to complete a sub around the neck of matt hughes. At least BJ walked back out there for the 3rd round, hes never tapped in any form ever and never will (my kind of fighter) Regardless, Matt hadnt seen the 3rd round in years, i guess we’ll see and BJ has no excuses for their final fight. (I dont think he’ll need any next time judging by the way he looks)

And if penn looked so good in the first round, why did one of the judges give the first to hughes, not that I agree with him, but he obviously didn’t destroy him in the first. All he did was defend hughes take downs, and clock him a few times, enough to win the round in my eyes but not total domination, like gsp did to hughes in there third fight.
