DREAM fight card and lightweight grand prix belts (Pic)

DREAM belts

The debut event for the new Japanese DREAM promotion takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, this Saturday (March 15). It will not air on television here in the United States.

Here's the line up for the opening round of the stacked lightweight grand prix:

Koutetsu Boku vs. Joachim Hansen
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Luis "Buscape" Firmino
Artur Oumakhanov vs. Katsuhiko Nagata
Mitsuhiro Ishida vs. Jung Bu-Kyung
Andre Dida vs. Eddie Alvarez
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kultar "Black Mamba" Gill
Shinya Aoki vs. Gesias "JZ" Calvancante

*Note that one more bout will possibly be added.

Pride FC 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix Champion Mirko Cro Cop will also be in action against Tatsuya Mizuno. In addition, Hayato "Mach" Sakurai will take on Hidetaka Monma and Ikuhisa Minowa is slated to compete against a yet to be named opponent.

This is shaping up to be a fantastic evening of mixed martial arts.

Mania, you are fast, but I am swifter! lol.
I like those belts. They remind me of the Pride titles. This will be a very exciting Grand Prix and its a damn shame that it will not air in the USA. Hopefully they eventually release the whole tournament on DVD in the UFC, but I am not too sure that it will happen!

Too bad it wont be on television. This is one of the few non UFC events that I would love to see. Some really good matches!!

They are very simular to the PrideFC belts..

Well it seems like DreamStage is rebuilding PrideFC, in a new promotion, Dream Japan, and I love it…

It sucks its not airing..I hope they work their way back up to PPV.

Dont they sell those belts at Toys R Us right by the WWE crap?

Ikuhisa Minowa is slated to compete against a yet to be named opponent.

Only a Japanese event or your local backyard promotion will have an opponent “yet to be named” the day before the event… They might as well just grab the drunkest guy from the 1st row to hop in and fight.

I guess I’m just sour that this event is not available at all…

This actually happened quite often with Pride as well, but they always managed to put a great card regardless.

I also noticed that MINOWAMAN doesn’t have an opponent yet. Like you said….Only in Japan!

*BREAKING NEWS!!! Minnowa to fight Korean Ssirum Wrestler
It looks like that Minnowa finally has an opponent for DREAMS, and it is another superheavyweight for him. This time the opposition comes in the form of a Korean Ssirum Wrestler looking to make his mark on the international MMA stage by taking out one of the most recognizable fighters in the world. Minnowa may have learned quite a few tricks from his bout with Zulu, but this Korean will be no pushover with his solid takedowns and potential ground-n-pound.

The belts look pretty cool. But what’s with the screaming eagle? Looks a little too American, no?

I think it’s time for the UFC to change the design of their belts, they look like crap…

I watch all MMA but this league is a joke…you are building an organization behind a joke like FroFLOP…please…I watch EliteXC,WEC and any other MMA I can find..DREAM has nothing to offer and will be closed within a year because its just another minor league pretending to be big time

How can Dream be a joke? It has the backing of a company that is probably worth more than the UFC and you say its a joke. You got to be kidding me!!!

Maybe they can get done what PRIDE never did, the Japanese luv fights, hopefully they’ll learn from Pride’s mistakes.

I think M-1 isn’t going to be the same. It’s not run by the japanese and it’s actually looking a bit dodgy if you ask me. I think DREAM will effectively be Pride minus the talent unfortunately.

But yes I remember everyone saying M-1 would be the new Pride but M-1 haven’t even put on an event yet and Fedor is getting out of there so things don’t look too good at the moment.

“They remind me of the Pride titles.”

Yeah, pretty sure that is the point. What’s funny to me is that all the Pride fanboys are hopping on this thing like it is going to be the next Pride. Some people are desperately seeking a reason to hate on the UFC. I think it stems from anti-Americanism. For whatever reason, it’s cool nowadays to hate on America and consequently, Americana. I don’t understand it…I mean, I do…but I don’t at the same time…

Eh, one good event so far. Let’s see the financials when they come out…clearly trying to reinvent the wheel (more like reinvent the 8 track) I’m skeptical at this point.

all you ufc fans might wanna consider the fact that 3 pride fighters are holding the belts in UFC and in sherdog ranking all all the #1 weight rankings are pride fighters, hate all u want Dream is going to build their once great organization again, and be again #1 organization, the only thing the japanese failed to do was advertisement in the US, but fighters and entertaining the fans, Pride>UFC

by mrquan2u on Mar 23, 2008 6:31 PM EDT reply actions

Fighters from pride… fighters from ufc.. they were all fighters from somewhere before entering these leagues credit should be given to their camps apose to arguing wich league holds wich fighters. Ultimately a fighters loyalty isnt to the league, its to the pay check. Wich ever orginazation puts out the money will most likely hold the best fighters. Well thats my understanding
