Dana White: 'I'm trying to fix my problem with Andrei' Arlovski (Video)

I dont want to hear that he is TRYING to fix the problem, just do whatever is necessary to get Andre back inside the octagon, prefferably to a 6 fight deal. Then I need Dana to start using him better. That means having him fight regularly (every 4-6 months) andf having him fight in meaningful match ups. If the UFC doesnt land Fedor or Couture than I would like to see Andre vs. Nogueira for the title, not because I think that Arlovski has earned a title shot, but because he is the best possible opponent for Nogueira, that would make it a really big UFC title fight.

Andre versus Kong would be an awesome match. Arlovski would definately need to bring it to that fight. Kongo would have beaten Nog if he had fought instead of Sylvia. Unlike Sylvia Kongo does not mind taking chances and going in for the kill, something that if Sylvia had done in the early rounds, he would have probably won the fight. Kongo v Arlovski definately.

“If that were the case, I’d have Tito Ortiz fighting at 1 o’clock in the F’ing afternoon” LOL

Even thought Andrei has not been the “Pitbull” as of late, he still deserves to be in the UFC and the UFC HW division can really use him at this point in time.

If they don’t re-sign Arlovski, then that means that, at the moment, they don’t have:

Randy Couture
Fedor Emelianenko
Josh Barnett
Andrei Arlovski

And they would have:

Big Nog
Tim Sylvia

That means that the UFC would only have 2 of the top 6 HW fighters. And that is inluding Timmay as a Top 6 fighter.

Nice little jab at Tito!

I sincerely hope to see Andrei back in the octagon… and soon. He’s one of the fighters who originally got me into MMA.

No way Kongo would of beaten Big Nog..I’m not a big Tim Slyvia fan..but he did go at Nog..he tried to finsih..I give him that..look at Nog rez..you think he is out and done..then..tap tap tap..he won via submission. IMo..no way Kongo can F’ especially if he wants to do his new thing..wrestling..and take Nog to the deck.

Kongo would have beaten Big Nog? How do you suppose he’d win that fight, but can’t muster a win against Heath Herring. Kongo and Gonzaga are both highly over-rated since beating Cro Cop. Neither of them ever deserved to be in the top 10 and it shows in thier most recent performances. Kongo would be in way over his head with any top 10 Heavyweight fighter, especially Nog and Arlovski. Heath Herring said it best,“if this was a body building competition Kongo would win all his fights.”

Glad AA is in the news, and hopeful Dana has realized he needs him now. He seems to know he made a mistake by pushing him aside when Randy returned, and especially by thinking he did not need him anymore when Cro Cop arrived. He thought he had a better version of AA in CC, but that has always been false. Let’s see what happens…

Arlovski has not been himself yes, but he has won his last 3 its the same deal with Machida the dude is not that entertaining but hes undefeated so he must be doing something right. The thing is Arlovski had the fire and nothing to loose mentality afew years back but after losing championship to Tim he bacame kinda gun shy like crocop but im sure we will see the PITBULL if Dana resigns which he better and fucking give the man more money if thats what he wants. Arlovski sells PPV and has a large fan base more so than : Gonzaga, Werdum, Kongo, etc… And im sorry but putting him in the undercard and Leben in PPV was bullshit, and AA girl said that they didnt even give her a ticket im sure that did not sit well with AA. anywho Dana get it done

It was nice to hear Dana express some humility. Also, AA comes across as a classy guy. Talk about a contrast between Tito’s attitude and the outlook of AA.

They should keep AA.. he’s the only one that doesn’t complain that… and the reason why he’s been lackin is because they keep putting him up against ground guyz.. its not his fault they dont’ want to stand with him…. the last guy didn’t even stand with him for 2 sec’s.. and fabrico verdum slapped him!! actually slapped him in the middle fight then went on the ground and told him to come down to him….. so put him up against a stand up guy and for sure the pitbull will be back

Me TOO!!! I was so used to watching crappy over-weight under fit boxers throw 2 or 3 punches per round in HW I wondered why they bothered with the division… then I saw AA in the UFC HW div and I was like oh F***… no more boxing for me, I have pitbull fights to watch!

There are a lot of good potential matchups fror AA:

In no particular order:

AA/Herring
AA/Silvia
AA/Vera
AA/Nog
AA/Kongo

i really hope they give him a contract extension soon. it would be a damn shame if they let someone else sign him. the UFC needs him.if Randy wont fight Big Nog then the PITBULL should get the next title shot.

What about AA vs Mir? I know his last win was against Lesnar, but he did look better than he has since his motorcycle accident. No one here is really talking about Mir as a possible contender if he wins his next couple of fights. He definately has a better chance of getting a title shot than Herring or Kongo. Personally, I would like to see AA fight Kongo (great stand up match) next, with Mir re-matching Sylvia or fighting Gonzaga in his next match. If both win, fight each other for a title shot with Nog. Either way, if AA stays in the UFC it would be nice to see the two former champs go at it.

Hope to see Arlovski back in the UFC and he should get a title shot against Big Nog. He has won his last 3 fights, his last against Jake O’Brien who beat Heath Herring. If Alovski fights any of the other HW guys and loses than the Heavyweight division is stuck with no viable contenders that have won consecutive fights or are big draws with fans.

On another note I wonder what Tito’s going to say in his post fight interview at UFC 84. If they give him the chance to speak that is.

by rsg on Mar 12, 2008 12:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That Tito line was great.

With everything going on right now in the HW division, it seems like Dana is starting to realize how valuable AA is. I really hope they work something out.

AA re-signs, then Fedor signs, Couture comes out of retirement. Ahhh, the HW division will be dominant again!

Now they just need to make all of that happen……..

by R-Dizzle on Mar 12, 2008 12:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Forgot about Frank Mir. Mir vs Arlovski could set up a title fight with Frank coming off a big win against Lesnar. Brandon Vera needs to get some W’s starting with Werdum at UFC85 and could be in the mix if he strings wins against Herring, Kongo etc

AA is boring and doesn’t deserve the money that he is surely asking for. Dana needs to keep him because the HW division is anemic, but AA basically functions as life support for a division on the verge of death.

I agree AA hasn’t exactly been a “pitbull” as of late, but I don’t fully blame him in his last three fights. The fight vs Cruz wasn’t boring at all. It just had a weird finish. Werdum was boring, but I can’t blame him for not wanting to go to the ground against him. And I blame Jake O’Brien more then AA for the last fight. O’Brien tried exactly one thing over and over and over. Take down attempt…then hopefully hold AA down. And I’m sure AA knew if O’Brien did get on top then it would lead to a boring decision loss. Luckily he was able to fend it off then finish though. That’s something Herring wasn’t able to do.

if they would just put him in there w/ someone who would bring it to andre, we might see the pitbull again. pe depano, werdum and obrien didnt do that. i think nog, herring, gonzaga, and kongo would fit the bill, preferably nog because i can tell he is a proud champion.

The UFC absolutely NEEDS Arlovski, unless they want to have Nog-Tim fight 5 more times. I say put AA against Mir and have it be for the number 1 contender spot. Nobody else deserves a title shot yet:

Kongo – just lost to Herring
Herring – already lost to Nog
Gonzaga – just lost to Werdum, and before that Randy
Werdum – lost to AA in a boring match
Vera – just lost to Tim in a boring match
Mir – lost to Vera, beat UFC noob Lesnar
Lesnar – LOLZ

i totally agree. trying and doing are 2 different things. dana and zuffa has really dropped the ball on this one. luckily they still have a chance to redeem themselves. like ive stated before i wish the ufc were like other pro sports and make their financials public. you always know in other sports what an athelete is making or what he is asking for, like if it is to much or not enough. this could either help the ufc or hurt them. i know they have alot of the under the table stuff too, so that might make it more difficult to go public.

Like it or not Josh Barnett is absolutely Top 6. What did he do in his last UFC fight? He DEMOLISHED everybody’s hero, Randy Couture. Andrei Arlovski lost to TIM SYLVIA TWICE. That is far worse than losing to a Cro Cop in his prime in Japan.

Like it or not? So you determine these things, do you? Josh’s win over Randy was too long ago to count. He lost to Mirko and Nog the last time out. I’d say right now, Randy, AA, Fedor, Werdum, Gonzaga, Sylvia are all ahead of Josh. I would even say Vera and Herring could be ranked ahead of him. Josh needs to start fighting some competition.

Josh Barrnet is the goods.

I have him beating Gonzaga if they fought..Slyvia would get roasted.. All the above mentioned are some tuff heavy weights..I would add Roy Nelson..soon to be a top dog HH.

It is a good arguement to give Josh Barnett top 5 statis..Nog beat him…and he beat Nog too…now with him fighting tuff comp..that’s tuff cuz Dana White doesn’t like him for " Personal " reasons..Pride being bought out..the top tier HH getting in the UFC stable..He wants to fight these guys..He could beat Fedor..he has the tools. If Dana could conduct business without this gangster/goodfella image we would have all above mentioned fighting inside the octagon. If your a UFC fighter..a brighter light shines on you..then if you’re a MMA non-UFC fighter with skills..Josh is up there and can beat any of the top 5 on any day any place ring or cage.

Forget Couture, the HW with the best chance at beating Fedor is Barnett! I dont understand why he has been so unsuccessful against Cro Cop…it just doesnt make sense. As much as I love Arlovski, if he fought Barnett, I think Barnett would be the favorite. This guy is the real deal and should be fighting in the UFC….. If I have to watch sean Sherk fight, then I should get to see Barnett fight!

I would like to say VM and John, that Randy absolutely did NOT get demolished by Barnett, not in any way shape or form, it’s like saying Hughes Demolished Penn in the second fight. Couture had round 1 and 2, GnP’d a bit, and DOMINATED positioning, took Barnett down at will. Couture slipped up once, or gassed, whatever happened, and Josh took advantage like the champion that he is, but in no way would I agree that Barnett demolished Couture.

And in the same way Couture dominated positioning, I think Fedor will as well, and I think Fedor will do even more from top, then Couture did.

I obvioulsy do agree Barnett is def the best fight for Fedor right now outside the UFC but do not want to see HIM be the one to finally beat Fedor, Josh has been out to long, it would be anit climactic haha, and I just plain and simple think Randy has a better shot then Josh.

Man i think you hit the nail directly on the head. AA will reign supreme again mark my words. i say fuck it, i’v seen and read quite a few interviews where AA says he wants one more crack at Big Tim, so let him. If AA were to win i think he would be back 110% mos def. I think Tim took his fire and he needs to get it back for personaly and professonal reasons.whatever the case may be Dana needs AA, cause if you think hes boring or not, AA puts asses in seats and sells ppv’s. DANA GET IT DONE!!!!!!!

The UFC really needs to get AA back under contract because without him…you lose a major part of a weight class that is already lacking depth…I firmly believe the HW class is the most boring class in the UFC and it should be one of the most exciting…AA is exciting (except when he fought Verdum) and is someone people look forwarding to watching. I think Dana will definitely get him back…partly because both sides want to work something out and partly because where else will he really go? I can’t see the EliteXC shelling out the kind of cash it would take for AA to tell the UFC to buzz off…plus I mean does he really want to be fighting the likes of Rico “Rehab” Rodriguez and the all hype, non-impressive “Big Joke” err I mean “Big Foot” Silva? I think this is pretty much a done deal here and will be announced soon

AA made $105K base by fighting Jake O’Brien. He got another $65K for beating him. $170K is not bad money for going untelevised. UFC’s position is: you just made $170K for an untelevised fight, what are you doing for us. But, they are the ones who had him fight O’Brien in the first place, so they really did it to themselves. Based on AA being a top 5 HW, and big Timmy no longer being champ, I think it would be fair for the UFC to offer him $125K base and $125K winning bonus for now, with a jump to $250K base and $250K winning bonus if he becomes champ. What do you guys think the UFC should pay AA?

i agree with those numbers. a quarter mil. for a win on his way to a title shot.and if he wins the belt after that he will have made .75 mil. for 2 fights. that seems resonable for a top Hwt.IMO hes only 1 win away from a title shot.maybe the1y should give him G.Gonzaga or C.Kongo

The UFC should publicize all fighter payouts pre-fight, not post fight. Every other professional sport highly publicizes atheletes salaries, the UFC should as well.
As for who AA should fight next – NOT Gonzaga or Congo (although I would like to see an AA/Congo matchup-but between them three straight losses) He should fight Mir next, with winner getting next title shot.

the reason i said Gonzaga or Kongo was i want to see him in a fight he can win without going to the judges cards. even though they are both ex champs a match against Mir would make the PITBULL look bad. he wouldnt want to get into a grapling match with Mir,and Frank wouldnt want to stand with AA. i have always considered the PITBULL the hardest puncher in the UFC. so he s got a punchers chance against BIG NOG. i know Big Nog has never gotten KOed but hes never been hit by AA. when the Maineiac 1st came to the UFC he fought Cabbage and beat the hell out of him until the corner threw in the towel.
Cabbage wouldnt go down, but when the PITBULL fought him he went down cause AA hits that damn hard.

I hope that they can work things out with A. Arlovski. He is my favorite fighter, and many others. I won’t stop watching the UFC if A.Arlovski leaves, but I will follow him.

Me TOO!!! I was so used to watching crappy over-weight under fit boxers throw 2 or 3 punches per round in HW I wondered why they bothered with the division… then I saw AA in the UFC HW div and I was like oh F***… no more boxing for me, I have pitbull fights to watch!

I get what you’re saying. Those are more exciting fights. But it’s gonna be hard to justify a title shot if he beats either Zaga or Kongo because both guys are coming off losses. And while I agree that a Mir fight would probably me more of a chess match than a fight, it makes more sense rankings-wise.

aa is quietly backin down on his bravado exterior of wanting more cash out of the ufc, now he’s respect in what he jaws about dana.
he knows where his bread and butter is, plus the exposure that comes with fighting with the ufc.
in the end you have to fill seats and have ppl watch your shows to generate $$, arlovski is loved by all and ppl want to see him fight. [ in general]
hence the pay he receives.
dana will reel him in and get him on a 6 fight deal.
