Thomas Denny vs. Malaipet to headline next ShoXC Elite Challenger Series event

EliteXC Xtreme Combat

The next ShoXC Elite Challenger Series event was recently announced for March 21 at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, Calif., this past weekend.

Lightweights Thomas "Wildman" Denny (25-16) and Malaipet Sitprapom (3-1) will tangle during the main event of the evening, which will be broadcast on the Showtime premium cable channel at 11 p.m. ET.

Denny has 21 stoppages in his 25 career wins (14 submission, 7 (t)kos). He fights out of Hesperia, Calif., and trains with Team Wildman Vale Tudo.

"Wildman" is a journeyman who has been tested by some of the game's best fighters. He's been in there with George St. Pierre, Joe Stevenson, Yves Edwards, John Alessio and Tony Fryklund, among others. His fight experience will be his strength going into this fight against Malaipet, who has just four career mixed martial arts fights to his credit.

Malaipet competed in ShoXC back in October 2007, defeating Kaleo Kwan with a unanimous decision. The 26-year-old is originally from Thailand and has been a professional fighter there since he was eight years old. In fact, Malaipet is a former Muay Thai world champion, meaning he is a very crisp and dangerous technical striker.

This should be a fun fight to watch one week from the big show -- Shamrock vs. Cung Le -- in San Jose, Calif., on March 28. EliteXC Live Events President, Gary Shaw, is unsurprisingly, interested in seeing how Malaipet performs against stiffer competition.

Here's a snip:

"Malaipet is a legend in kickboxing, but I think a lot of us are anxious to see how he does as he continues to step up. For sure, he could turn out to be special, but Denny is one tough vet. I love to watch the progress of all young athletes as they develop. The response to this series has been incredible.''

Other televised bouts just announced include:

160 lbs.: Marlon Matias (5-1) vs. Conor Huen (6-2)
140 lbs.: Cristiane Cyborg (5-0) vs. Jen Case (4-1)
265 lbs.: Shane Del Rosario (3-0) vs. Analu Brash (2-1)
140 lbs.: Mark Oshiro (9-1) vs. Chris Caraiso (6-0)

And the non-televised dark matches:

160 lbs.: Karen Darabedyn (2-1) vs. TBA
170 lbs.: Devin Howard vs. Mark Kempthorne (1-4)
265 lbs: Amadeo Viola (0-1) vs. Jason Williams
170 lbs.: Luke Riddering vs. TBA
170 lbs.: Kenny Johnson vs. TBA

Anybody know much about Malaipet? His gym Team Diamond is in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and is located about 10 min. from my home. Seeing how he is a former Muay Thai world champion I thought it might be a good gym to go join. Any thoughts?

Who? I have no idea who these people are but I bet the white guy’s going to win. Where the hell is the coverage of the Dream event coming up?

I saw him against Kwan and he beat em down the entire time. I couldnt even see how Kwan was standing after all the kicks Malaipet gave him-esp to his thighs….I liked watching him fight.

BREAKING NEWS!!! TITO ORTIZ INJURED!?!?! No MACHIDA Fight!!!
Just got done hearing this on espn radio. they said they talked to tito for an interview next week and he informed them that he wont be fighting machida, he re injured his back and since his contract expires soon. he wont be with the ufc

so no more ufc for tito!!!!

Personally, I had a feeling that we wouldnt get to see Tito vs. Machida. I dont think he is hurt, I just dont think he wants any part of Machida. If the big headed idiot would have pulled out of this fight last week, then maybe we would still get to see:
Tiago Silva vs. Rashad Evans,
and
Machida (who needs an opponent now) vs. Liddell

Tito not pulling out of this fight last week, managed to ruin 2 great fights! What a d**K!!! Hopefully they match up Machida vs Tiago Silva at UFC 84 since they are both looking for opponents!

What event are they considering adding this fight too?

by john on Mar 10, 2008 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

Gonzaga is coming off a loss. He should have been matched up against another fighter coming off of a loss like Tim Sylvia and the UFC should match up Mir vs. arlovski (if they manage to re sign him)!

I really like Brandon Verra v. Werdum fight, but down the line, I hope to get to see Frank Mir vs. Werdum, I think that would showcase some amazing grappling out of the Heavyweight division, and I am really curious to see if either fighter could submit the other!

Gonzaga and Mir are NOT fighting. Let’s end that right now.

Mania, Thanks for putting that too rest. Since u knew that the Mir/Gonzaga fight was BS, does that mean u have heard anything about future opponents for either Mir or Gonzaga?

Have u heard anything on Tito withdrawing from the Machida fight yet?

Wow, a card filled with guys who aren’t even good enough for EliteXC? What’s the venue? Behind the gym after the 3:00 bell rings?

Wildman is an entertaining fighter, but there’s no way he should be headlining any events. However, given Malaipet Sitprapom’s Muay Thai background, I’m curious to find out how well-rounded his game is.

If Frank Mir were to fight Arlovski then who would fight Minotauro? There’s no one worthy of a title shot right now other than Arlovski. Given that, the UFC really needs to resign him so they have someone to take on Nogueira. Otherwise the HW division is going to be kept in limbo for a very long time, unless Randy decides to come back and fight him, which I don’t see happening.

i agree. i would much rather see liddell/machida and rashad/silva. better style match-ups in those fights and they would have more meaninig to me. maybee it could still happen. you never know, it’s the ufc w/ could also stand for " unpredictable fight center"

Isn’t this thread about the ShoXC event? They have all been solid events so far and I look forward to them. Do I look forward to them as much as a PPV or a UFN, no way, but I still look forward to DVR’ing it on a Friday night and watching it late night, or early afternoon Saturday.
