Report: Nick Diaz vs. Jae 'The Korean Ice Pick' Lim fight set for March 29

nick diaz
Nick Diaz will return to action against Jae "The Korean Ice Pick" Lim (9-3) later this month on March 29 as a featured bout on the Shamrock vs. Cung Le card -- an event that will be co-promoted by Strikeforce and ProElite -- in San Jose, Calif., according to GracieFighter.com.

Diaz was penciled in to fight Muhsin Corbbrey on April 26 in Hawaii, however, we learned that the bout was eventually scratched during an exclusive interview with the Diaz brothers last month.

Lim just fought last Saturday in Japan, beating Yoon Young Kim in the second round via technical knockout. He last fought for EliteXC in November 2007 on the Renegade show, submitting Daniel Pinedo with a first round rear naked choke.

The Koreon Ice Pick is a pretty big 160 pounder. He's listed as 176 pounds and his size could give Diaz some trouble come March 29. Lim is an aggressive fighter who has five submissions and three technical knockouts in his nine wins.

Even so, this is a fight Diaz should win on paper. We'll call this a tune up fight for either his rematch with KJ Noons for the belt or his fight with Yves Edwards, depending on who wins the Noons/Edwards fight.

The co main events of Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le for the middleweight title and Jake Shields vs. Drew Fickett for the welterweight title make this perhaps the biggest event the company has put on so far. Now with the addition of Diaz, Strikeforce and EltieXC have really given us something to look forward to.

Lim is not a huge name opponent for Diaz, but like I've said before, a Nick Diaz fight is a Nick Diaz fight and those are always fun to watch.

For more details on the Shamrock vs. Cung Le event, which is scheduled to air on the Showtime premium cable channel, click here.

Why isn’t Diaz in the UFC anymore? I probably know but I’m still half asleep and want to know again lol.

Your right..no one gives a shit!
The UFC needs Nick back, having both bros signed would be good for the UFC. Nick can do some serious brawling and I think Nate is on the same path.

Haha. I always wondered why being first was such a big deal!

Seriously though, Why isn’t Nick in the UFC? That one is a no-brainer Dana!

A little off topic, I heard a radio interview with karo parisyan and all he seemed to talk about was jon fitch. It sounded like he really let this guy get under his skin. Thoughts.

Aren’t Shields and Fickett fighting for the Welterweight title, not the lightweight one? :O

After he defeated Gleison Tibau at UFC 65, he was garuanteed to get another fight inside the UFC and extend his contract, but decided to sign with Gracie Fighting Championship for a fight against Thomas Denny. tickets didn’t sell for the event so he went to Pride for 2 fights, and then to EliteXC where i guess he wants to stay for a while.

I hope Nick Diaz somehow finds his way back to the UFC. I really enjoy watching him. He’s got a fun style, and the attitude to match.

Nick Diaz belongs in the UFC.the 170 div. could use another quality fighter. IMO he would fit in the top ten somewhere between 5-10

1 the CHAMP GSP
2 M.Serra
3 J.Fitch
4 M.Davis

There are a couple of interesting fights on this card for people that are hardcore fans (which means anyone who would come to this website), but IMHO it doesn’t even match up with the UFC’s Fight Night on April 2nd on Spike TV. Personally, I don’t see EliteXC surviving long term as they continue to bleed in the red and are vastly overshadowed by the UFC. This is unfortunate since competition keeps everyone on their toes. Dreams, WVR and HDNet Fights have a better chance of offering the UFC competition.

Since beating Gomi last year nick Diaz has had a bad year. Even though noons didnt really beat him and the only reason he lost was cause his scar tissue bleeds to easy, Diaz looked like crap that fight. Diaz could have commanded marque match ups after beating Gomi, but instead he took a step back in the qaulity of competition he has faced,

His manager should be fired, after beating gomi, he could have fought all the best lightweights not in the UFC and instead he is fighting the Korean tooth pick or whatever this dude name is!

I dont get it!

I am a very big Diaz brothers fan, but Nate needs new management.

Mania, you know if this is the CBS event or it will be on Showtime as usual?

If you know any viewing info about the 1st round of the DREAM lightweight grand Prix on Saturday, Please…Do tell!

Marcus Davis 4th, really? Davis hasn’t fought anyone nearly good enough to justify being a top 5 guy yet. And once GSP wipes the floor with Serra you can take him off that list as well.

Yeah I want to try and catch the DREAM grand prix. It’s this saturday, right?

EliteXC is going about this all wrong. They should be saving Nick Diaz to fight in April on the nationally televised CBS card. Who is EliteXC’s biggest draws? Kimbo, Nick Diaz and Frank Shamrock. Shamrock is headlining the March 29th show and Kimbo is headlining the April show. I would think that EliteXC would want to put their most well known and most marketable fighters on the CBS card. We all make fun of Dana for some of his dumb ideas, but Gary Shaw is going to prove to be a bumbling retard.

BREAKING NEWS!!! TITO ORTIZ INJURED!?!?! No MACHIDA Fight!!!
Just got done hearing this on espn radio. they said they talked to tito for an interview next week and he informed them that he wont be fighting machida, he re injured his back and since his contract expires soon. he wont be with the ufc

so no more ufc for tito!!!!

Personally, I had a feeling that we wouldnt get to see Tito vs. Machida. I dont think he is hurt, I just dont think he wants any part of Machida. If the big headed idiot would have pulled out of this fight last week, then maybe we would still get to see:
Tiago Silva vs. Rashad Evans,
and
Machida (who needs an opponent now) vs. Liddell

Tito not pulling out of this fight last week, managed to ruin 2 great fights! What a d**K!!! Hopefully they match up Machida vs Tiago Silva at UFC 84 since they are both looking for opponents!

Nick Diaz is in need of a new manager! After beating Gomi, he could have gotten all kinds og big name match ups for sure against guys like:
Hellboy
JZ
Shinya Akoi
Kawajiri
Ishida

After beating Gomi he should have been fighting guys like that instead he is wasting away his big name fighting unknowns in EliteXc. His manager and Gary shaw should be shot, for what they are doing with his career!

As my esteemed colleague ViolentMike pointed out, he should clearly be on the CBS card, instead of a showtime card that already features Shamrock vs. Cung Le. But instead the EliteXC is choosing Kimbo Slice to represent mma on the 1st ever show in such a prominent T. V network.

An even better career move for Diaz would have been to join the DREAM grand prix. He should have cut down to 155 lb and entered that tournament that he would have a good chance of winning. A win in that tournament would be very prestigous. I just dont like what they have done with his career since the Gomi fight. He is one of my favorite fighters and they are really mismanaging his career!

Why is he not in the dream tournament. EliteXC signed Eddie Alveres and he is competing in the lightweight Grand Prix. As soon as he found out that KJ Noons wouldn’t grant him a rematch for the title, his management should have instantly singed him up for the DREAM grand prix.

Talk about bad timing. You’re right, a week or so ago this news would have actually been good news. Machida vs Liddell is clearly the fight that most fans want to see.

I personally would rather see Thiago wreck Rashad than Chuck. Alright, I’m not going to get into how much I can’t stand the Liddell/Evans fight.

im a huge Diaz fan… but so is everybody right? For his own good, I hope that he does do some weight training for this one because the korean nosepick looks thick, chizled, deizle (in comparison).. whatever you wanna call it… imagine how much faster he’d get that kimura around the other guys back. or how about rocking the other guy with a few solid straights instead of those 20 million jabs ? shoot maybe he would be the guy ripping the korean nosepick open with cuts. Maybe he’d bulldoze diego sanchez in a rematch. Yada mean? So what if he weighs a little more, its only a little more he needs to cut that week. Basicly, i just want to see him throw some bombs, drop this guy with a good one, expose this amateur, make it a quick one and then go blaze and watch the replay when he gets home.

No one in the LHW ranks wants a piece of Machida. Even after CHuck beat Wanderlei, Hack was saying he didn’t want chuck fighting someone who was so hard to prepare for so soon after chuck got his confidence back. Personally, after his last performance, I can see Machida beating chuck or most lhw’s. Maybe not finishing them all, but at least making them look bad. I wish Chuck would fight Machida because it’s always fun watching two good counter-punchers deciding who’s better.
Also Kama Kaze is right. I wish the diaz brothers would do a little weight traing. I know they both have cardio, but maybe if they fine-tuned thier punching and got a little stronger they could cause serious problems for anyone. I have to say, that fight where Nick got that TKO over gleisen tibau was the worst arm punching I’ve ever seen.

Is there any prove of the news about tito?

I heard it on ESPN radio, maybe if you go on the ESPN radio website, they might have it in the archives. Either way, I expect it to be announced soon!

i agree wiith kame kaze & mattchupichu, the DIAZ bros need to do some weight lifting to put on a litte more muscle.Nate looks like he doesnt cut weight,he looks like he walks around at 155-160.Nick should put on a little weight if he returns to the UFC.IMO if you dont cut at least 7-10lbs,then you already gave your opponent an advantage if he drops the weight
