Tito Ortiz: 'I'm done with the UFC' and wants Frank Shamrock rematch (Video)
Note that Tito Ortiz will complete the final fight on his UFC contract when he fight Lyoto Machida at UFC 84: "Ill Will" on May 24. Next stop EliteXC? He says he's got three years left of fight left in him.

I KNEW the UFC was approached by CBS before they approached EliteXC! As soon as I saw the announcement, my first thought was “what did Dana fuck up this time”. I know the comment is coming from Tito, but for some reason, I believe him.

Smart move for him. He’s probably going to lose to Machida and if he lost another one after that the UFC would have to cut him anyway. Can’t pay undercard fighters Tito money.

I agree with Tito a bit. I mean, look at Couture. According to him, they lied to him. And Tim Sylvia said something about not being paid enough. Couture and Sylvia were UFC nuthuggers, so i kinda believe Tito, but not everything he says. Tito is pretty arrogant too.

Good riddance. He hasn’t fought like a champion for some time now being primarily focused on the $money$ and pr(which he does for the $$ too). He should do a lot better because he’ll be fighting lower classed fighters like himself. A big fish in a small pond…..no scratch that, a big headed fish in a small pond.

Tito Ortiz has talked about quitting the UFC and signing somewhere else for more than 6 years now. Good for him if he does it, but until he does he’s just Tito being Tito; running his mouth, talking shit and trying to keep from falling over with that gigantic head of his.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Dana White has done so much to make Tito look like a bum. Does anyone remember that hour long special he made promoting that boxing match he was supposed to have with Tito??? How come Tito didn’t have a special telling his side of the story. How do we know it was Tito who wanted the fight cancelled? Many will say that he fought a washed up Shamrock numerous times and lost to Liddell twice, but the truth is he is one of the fighters that made the UFC what it is today. People enjoyed watching him to his “Mock Burial” after he KO a guy. He helped the UFC go mainstrean with his appearences on The Best Damn Sports Show Period, and he along with a few others can sell PPV fights like no other.

Doesn’t the UFC have the right to match any offer Tito gets? I thought I heard that somewhere. The reason why I am asking is because if he gets a reasonable offer from EliteXC or someone else I can see them matching after he smashes Machida’s face in.

It’s about putting butts in seats so I can agree with his (Tito’s) arguement. But on the other hand the UFC puts up the money for the shows so I can see there point as well. Still Tito would still give any up and comer the crudentials they would need to get big fights. Tito is the Rich Franklin of the LHW division. He’ll probably go into the fight and do nothing, just lose to make the UFC look stupid. Hopefully he comes out and beats the shit out of Machida so he can go elsewhere and get the money he wants. Hate to see him go.

I knew he had a big head, but damn, I don’t know if it was the angle, does he have gigantism or something?
Anyways… I can kinda agree with Tito on this one. For someone who along with the likes of Couture and Chuck, helped put UFC on the map, and to have such a rocky relationship with Dana and the UFC? I hope he beats Machida, ends his UFC career on a high note, he certainly has the ability. Would be a good way to “stick it” to Dana before he signs with someone else, show him what the UFC’s going be losing.

Sometimes I also Think Dana White is a bit arrogant. Like his hyped fight with Tito. I mean he tries to put attention on himself, and all he is is a suit. I mean hes done a great job, but it seems as if everyone is saying hes an asshole…after a so many people say the same thing, you start to wonder. Elite XC is extremely lame, with jock sniffers like Quadros and Goldberg, but they do have that hack Gary SHaw who will spend money like an idiot, thus drawing more fighters perhaps. I think the UFC still has 3 solid years until its got legit comp.

i’m a tito fan, and i will be the first to say that he has not looked good recently. he needs a dominating performance in the worst way. the thing that pisses me off is how everybody(fans and fighters)rag on tito because he wants to get paid good. he sells tickets, period. you can’t argue that, so why shouldn’t he get paid good. he also has the longest(or one of the longest) title reigns. people are not bitching about how much lesner is getting paid with absolutly no experience. people are even saying he deserves the money because “people pay to see him”. same as tito. also, randy is in the same situation tito was in a few years ago. bitching about money and who he is gonna fight. randy leaves and everybody takes his side and blames dana. in tito’s situation everybody calls him greedy and a coward. bottom line is he is an athlete and wants to get paid like one. for some reason people think that because fighters want more money then they are affraid to fight. so what? should fighters fight for peanuts just to prove to everybody that they are tough? come on….not to much is said when a football or baseball player leaves to another team because of a bigger pay check.
tito is kinda judged with a double-standard. i know this is said a lot about tito, but it is true……you either love him or hate him, and i guess thats part of the reason for his success. either way i hope he comes out and smashes machida. it’s getting hard to constantly defend him and his sub-par performances as of late.

True Tito dose seem to have lost that warrior spirit that he once had, u can tell just by hearing him talk before a fight interview he talks as if fighting is his second priority now, whereas back in the day he was hungry and used to crush everybody he fought and had a totaly different attitude when it came time to fight he does not seem like he wants to fight anymore. He needs to come back to the way he was before when he was champ. This is sad but true for a fighter who was once reagarded as the face of the UFC and 1 of the best in the world.

Guys leaving or having problems with the UFC/Dana White:
Fedor
Randy
Andrei Arlovsky
Tito Ortiz
Tim Sylvia
If anyone can add to this list, please do.
Why do people think that Dana’s beef with Tito is unique? Dana White is a brash business man. He’s arrogant and he steps on people’s toes.
But look at the guys he’s had beef with. These aren’t low teir TUF fighters. These guys are PPV sellers, fan favorites, and guys that have put this sport where it is. Once these guys defect, others will follow. And the UFC will be the equivalent to the WWE with EliteXC its TNA.

hmmm, gotta word this just right, i used to like tito until this last year or two, i understand everyone wants to get paid and in that, yeah dana white and perhaps the fertita’s are being a little greedy, but they just broke EVEN last year. As far as tito never on tv ummm the ultimate fighter i though constituted being on tv, and they edited that show to make tito look like a stud. I don’t know the guy but i’d bet that ken shamrock isn’t the douchbag they showed him to be (due to clever editing). Point being it seems like they TRIED to make him a star but in him being a less than exciting fighter (other than his geriatric beat-downs of shamrock) he somewhat slipped and needs to realize that in order to get paid you have to kick ass, don’t believe me, ask andrei arlovski he hasn’t even lost but is on his way out for being boring.
Seperate note, i never though jenna jamison to be attractive, and i haven’t seen any pictures of her in a while but ugh, my god, she’s a troll.

Tito is a certain hall of famer at the UFC, if he leaves on a bad note like this it will be a Randy esq shame. I agree with Tito, it’s time there were minimums put on MMA fights based on a dollar figure, or total door take, or something like that. Did you WATCH the FOREST fight? It was slow, weak, and pathetic. Forest didn’t fight his best either and even said after the fight he was too nice bc he knew Tito was injured and hurting during the fight.
Every fight I have seen Tito in lately has been WEAK. I am trying to be a fan, but common. He BARELY wins. His fights lately have been boring and slow and just a snore. Plus, he barely fights that much anyhow. His “ground and pound” game hasn’t been strong or convincing. His older past fights might have been good, so those who have been watching UFC awhile know what he is capable of. But for new watchers, Tito is LAME and past his prime and done. I think he is burnt out.
He also gets injured easily it seems.
I won’t miss his big head and pale chicken legs. Good riddens. I hope he gets a nice piece of humble pie when he loses and gets his big head bashed in. He may try to justify the need for more money bc of what he puts his body through, but no one is making him fight. He can do something else, and thats the problem, he doesn’t know anything else.

Getting paid in this sport has very little to do with how good you are, it’s all about name recognition and hype. Tito has a big name, and he can hype a fight like no other. As a result he sells PPV’s to the average fight fan. Hardcore fans will buy a PPV because someone like Machida is fighting, but the average joes does not. I know Machida is better than Tito, hell, even Tito probably knows as well, but it takes more than a shiny record to sell PPV’s and get paid.
Tito is EXACTLY what an upstart like EliteXC needs. If I were them I would make him the highest paid fighter on the roster.

Tito also mentions Elite XC striking a deal with NBC even though they struck a deal with CBS.

I think there is a lot of animosity towards Dana White from lots of different fighters besides Tito so we really should take that into account. Sure he has built the sport up from scratch and deserves credit but he has some contract issues.
Anderson Silva was paid less than Heath Herring in UFC 82, and Andrei Arlovski made more than Silva and was on the undercard when Silva was the main event…go figure. Chuck Liddell gets paid 5 times as much as Anderson Silva. I would like to see EliteXC offer Silva a huge contract and watch White squirm.
White is quickly becoming what Don King is to boxing and that cannot be good, so good on Tito and others who are standing up to him.

He should do a lot better because he’ll be fighting lower classed fighters like himself. A big fish in a small pond…..no scratch that, a big headed fish in a small pond.
man, tito has a point when it comes to the amount of money fighters are paid. comparing ufc ticket and ppv sales to boxing ticket and ppv sales, they are pretty much equal. ufc events bring is as much money at the gate as boxing matches do, and ufc ppv’s cost only $5.00 less than boxing ppv’s and the ufc has as many ppv buys as boxing ppv’s do. So why do main event boxers make MILLIONS, and i mean MILLION, per fight, when ufc headliners make small 6 figures. liddell gets the most at $500,000 per fight, most headliners are lucky to make $100,000. Somebody is getting rich and it’s not the fighters who are putting their body on the line.

It doesnt matter if you like him or hate him, know one on the planet can market themselves better than Tito. Good on him.
machida had won 12 fights. come on, seriously, who has he fought. an out of shape, first time in the cage sokoudju. yeah it’s pretty easy to beat a 23 yr. old kid who has only a handful of fights to his name, and none of them being in a cage even. if machida beats ortiz, then he has my respect, until then, his wins in the WFA are a joke when it comes to saying this guy is top 10. in 3-4 yrs. Soko will destroy machida, if that long from now.

White is quickly becoming what Don King is to boxing and that cannot be good, so good on Tito and others who are standing up to him.
Don King pays WAY more then Dana White

-idk about that wrestling comparison since i dont watch it, but i completely agree with you on dana stepping on fighters toes! (I mean how many fighters does he have to have a personal vendetta with for people to realize dana is JOKE)i hope ur right and fighters start defecting to Elite and making it more competative, the sport needs it! it will only bring better fights for the promotion, so a huge benefit for us “MMA” fans who like it general not just “UFC”~blah

Here we are judging Dana’s character flaws: complaining about what he should be compensating his fighters like we giva damn. Or how about, “he shouldn’t say the F word”?. But fact is we’re all tuned into the sport like fly’s on doodoo and UFC wouldn’t be what it is without him – neither would Randy, Tito, and any other fighter that left for that matter. There’s plenty of other fighters trying to get in. If they can do better somewhere else, go ahead. UFC is not going to have ALL the best, but everyone knows they have MOST of the best -especially with PRIDE gone, and thats what gives the organization and its fighter’s credibility that M1 or EliteXC doesn’t have. Fighters now are getting paid BANK compared to back in the day. He hands out bonuses multiple times my annual salary FOR FREE. So the Dana haters need to stop bitching and recognize the truth that he’s bustin his ass putting on the sickest venues in the sport.

Smart move for him. He’s probably going to lose to Machida and if he lost another one after that the UFC would have to cut him anyway. Can’t pay undercard fighters Tito money.
well this is his last fight on the contract so they can pay him what he agrees to next. and yes they casn afford to payt undercard fighters big money they just dont cause they are stingey bas***D*

If you think that Sokodjou is the only “name fighter” that Machida has beaten, then you are sadly mistaken. Outside of the UFC, Machida owns wins over Stephen Bonnar, BJ Penn, and Rich Franklin.

TITO……..simpley the best mma fighter period. When he whips this #5 guy ranked in the world he will prove that he belongs with the best ranked fighters.Dana punkass white wants him gone because he knows TITO will become champ again so dana dont want that but beating danas top five fighter will prove that the ufc competition is getting weak.

Machida is a very difficult fight for Tito, or anyone period. He won’t gas out, his precision counter fighting style preserves his energy while taking the steam out of his opponents. It’s not exciting but it keeps him in the big win column.

man, tito has a point when it comes to the amount of money fighters are paid. comparing ufc ticket and ppv sales to boxing ticket and ppv sales, they are pretty much equal. ufc events bring is as much money at the gate as boxing matches do, and ufc ppv’s cost only $5.00 less than boxing ppv’s and the ufc has as many ppv buys as boxing ppv’s do.
Tito does have great points… but Tito also has some issues… it makes it difficult to not counter him with criticizm. Tito should sign with X-Elite, that would be a good organization for his style… and in a few more fights… take on Kimbo.

Tito is the Rich Franklin of the LHW division. He’ll probably go into the fight and do nothing, just lose to make the UFC look stupid. Hopefully he comes out and beats the shit out of Machida so he can go elsewhere and get the money he wants. Hate to see him go.
WOW, really cutting on Franklin! but I’d have to disagree. I don’t think that Rich Franklin is that far removed from his prime, in fact, if it wasnt for Anderson, he would still be considered to be in his prime. Tito has been passed his prime for years. Also, Rich is a well rounded fighter, where as Tito hasn’t added something new to his game for 10 years. Also, Rich Franlin has never fallen out of the Top 5 of the MW division, where as Tito hasn’t been in the Top 5 of the LHW division for years.
What I mean by my comment is Rich will test any 185er to see if there ready for a title shot. So Tito can test anybody at 205, I mean shit he beat Forrest and he now has a title shot. Tito may not ever be able to get a title shot but he’s the man to beat to start a fighters chance at the road to title contencion. Does that make sense to you? Thats why I hate to see him go.

How much does he get per fight? Is it somewhere in the region of $200 000? Theres guys who get like $6000, they are the ones who deserve more, Tito is just greedy, i would not re neogiate his contract for more, he’s had his day he’ll never be able to be get back to the top of the Light Heavyweight Division. So Tito get lost and take Tim Sylvia with ya.

Tito doesn’t have the heart of a fighter in his last fight with Rashad…. But I think we will see old school Tito against Machida. Tito fights good when he is pissed or has something to prove.. I hope he fights like the old days…

The UFC has made millions and millions off the back of their fighters. Just look at some of the interviews with guys like Couture and Ortiz. Thats just the surface. Tito is right in many respects to how he was treated. Look at the law suites they are trying to attack Randy with, trying to put his gym out of business. Randy ran Extreme Couture for years, now that he does not want to fight for them they claim he is competing with the UFC. The idiots at Zuffa don’t provide training or facilities to the fighters outside of the show. Will they attach Tito’s camp next, then Chucks’s one by one as the retire. Where will the fighters train? Is this how they treat the legends of the sport. Tito is one of the best to fight in the UFC and was a huge part of getting it the recognition it has now. Love him or hate him you have to respect him.
Greed will sink the UFC, they can not expect fighters to give them everything and treat their fighters like property. I hope everyone prospers, but everyone should get their share.

Dana has done a lot to help Tito. He has obviously forgotten who helped him out. He might have helped UFC get on the map (Personally I feel Ken Shamrock did this, he was a great fighter back in the day-) but UFC made it possible for him to put them on the map.
Dana has even sponsored Tito.
He sucks and is over-rated. He won’t be missed. He doesn’t fight that often anyhow.
When they announced his fight, I was like “bout time he fought”-
You know who I miss… Arloski the bull dog.

I liked Tito after TUF3 he show really good coaching skills, he seems a nice guy, when he fought Liddell I though he had a good chance he was a really top contender, but man his fighting career went down hill after that fight, I wasn’t impress in his fight against Evans, I agree with the UFC that doesn’t want to pay him more than what he’s making now, he is not the smae icon he was a few years back, he’s better of going to a lower class league.
I agree, he became human and concentrated fully on his fighters. He called them “kids” and was motivated to train them. He even went to their house and cooked for them. Initially I thought Ken Shamrock would beat Tito’s team bc he’s the leader of the Lion’s Den..But Ken didn’t give a rats ass on his fighters, would fake on appearances, and his fighters were complaining that we was never around. They ended up training in the backyard, kicking on tress, etc.. Adn when Ken was around, he takes them to the gold driving range, and his fighters were like WTF.. Tito is a true warrior and coach

Remember the moto of this article kids, “however bad Tito is or isnt, Frank is FAR WORSE”

Think about it, Frank has been in it for nothing but himself, while at least Tito talks about helping the other fighters pay and such. They both havnt fought top teir in forever, both claim to be the best, at least Tito is fighting a top guy in Machida, weather he wanted to or not he is, why not let Tito and Frank fight? I’d see that for sure!!

WHAT?? The UFC disrespected him?? Never put him on TV????
HELLO TITO you were on the ULtimate Fighter reality show you got your face on there. You headlined many fights!! VS CHUCK twice, VS Shamrock 3 times!!! TITO vs EVANS, & Tito vs Griffin, all headliners!!! Didn’t do anything for you?
I think this is more of TITO and DANA not getting along and Dana putting TITO on blast on the show on Spike when TITO and Dana were supposed to have a boxing match and Tito backed out!!! Or for whatever reason Tito didn’t get inlvovled. Now the UFC is giving him Machida, a well rounded fighter, but he wanted evans again. Tito don’t want to fight! that is the real reason he is leaving the UFC!!! he don’t want to fight W. Silva, Chuck, Shogun, Griffin, jardine, SOKO, Machida, Hendo, he rather go fight an undersized Frank Shamrock!!!

Tito Ortiz is done. How do you expect to get respect when you turn down a third of the fights offered to you. Even when he was the Light Heavy Champ he wanted to pick his own fights so that he wouldn’t lose. I believe that if he were to fight any of the top light heavy weights he would lose. Jackson, Griffin, Liddell, Shogun, Wanderlei, Machida, Evans, Jardine and Sokoudjou. All of them are better than Tito. I’m sure that if Tito would just shut his mouth and fight whoever they put in front of him, then Dana will respect him more and try to promote him. Instead he cries about fights he wants and doesn’t get and not getting paid enough and constantly rips Dana White. In the end of the day, he is your boss. You are under contract and you have to do what he says. I give Tito a little credit on how he promotes himself before a fight and gets fans interested, but when the bell rings…..big let down. He beats lesser opponents and recently loses to those equal or better than him. Lyoto Machida is like the San Antonio Spurs….He’s not flashy or talks a lot, but he wins. As for him and Frank Shamrock……NO CHANCE.

Regardless of how you feel about Tito.. its rather sad that he even suggested a ‘rematch’ against Frank Shamrock. It really shows that he doesn’t have the balls to fight the best of the best, and would rather hang on to his fleeting glory by fighting a retired legend that he beat 3 times in a row. God forbid he get thrown in there with the best of the best, he’d get torn up.

A Tito rematch against Frank Shamrock? Great for EliteXC.
Bad for any type of Tito comeback. Frank will knock him out like he did the first probably even quicker. Tito signs to that fight and he’s about to get all that hype knocked out of him by the legend.

By the way John’s right, Tito fought Ken not Frank Shamrock 3 times. Tito fought Frank only once and frank knocked Tito out. That was in 1999. Frank was the undefeated ufc middleweight. Bring it on Tito

tito left cause the ufc pays chump change to its fighters.the ufc is no more than a sanctioning body in the sport of mma not the sport.support our sport and it will one day be an olympic event and we will have world mma champions not ufc cage champs who fight in a cage but have tons of rules.the cage went with the no rules part.tito should have fought jackson in his last fight but the ufc doesnt have a ranking systym just a popularity contest to see who fights for the coveted 500$ ufc belt.dana king,i mean white needs to retire next he is bad for the sport in the same way bob arum and don king are to boxing.
