UFC Quick Quote: Monte Cox reiterates Tim Sylvia wants to remain a UFC fighter ... if possible

"My situation with Tim is (that) we're looking to re-sign with the UFC. We think he performed well against Nogueira. He got caught but he certainly showed he's top five in the world right now.... We'd like to re-sign with the UFC. (But) if that's not possible there are lots of options now."
-- Monte Cox -- the agent of former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia -- tells FiveOuncesOfPain.com that he is working to get a contract extension for his client with the UFC. "The Maine-iac" has one fight left on his current deal and has mentioned that he's looking for Brock Lesnar-type money. Cox indicates that other options will be explored if the two sides can't come to terms.

I dont see Timmy leaving the UFC anytime soon..All those rumors were bullshit..
Not that I am a fan of old web-foot, I just see him re-signing with UFC.

He could probably negotiate a pretty good pay check for his services with EliteXC on CBS.

He’s obviously going to want more money than Brock is making so it’s hard to say if the UFC will be willing to give him that. If they don’t…then Tim has good enoguh reason to leave cause M-1 will pay him big bucks to see him fight against Fedor. Or they might cross promote and have him fight Mirko or maybe Antonio Silva.

How can he want Lesnar type money when
#1. He is no where NEAR the draw of Lesnar
#2. He is 1-2 in his last 3 fights
#3. He isn’t even the champ

Forget his personality which sucks, he is a top 5 fighter, possibly even top 3 and in a weak hw division it would be dumb for Ufc to lose a fighter of his caliber..
Good match ups left for him too..
Kongo
Herring
Mir 2
Big Nog 2
Lesnar
Coleman
Gonzaga
Werdum

As much as we all hate Tim Sylvia, right now he is a necessity to the weak HW division. Timmy has only lost to the best. Its not like he goes out there and gets upset by no name fighters. Once Timmy won the HW belt, he lost his killer instinct. I think that the old aggressive Timmy started to come out in the fight with Nogueria. For the first time in a while, I am actually looking forward to Timmy’s next fight, because I expect him to come out swinging and looking for a fast KO.
I usually never root for the big oger, but depending on his next opponent, I just might be rooting for Timmy to win.

Totally agree, im not a Sylvia fan but if he signs to another organisation it leaves the HW division with very few marketable fighters. Big Nog & Lesnar can’t carry a divison on their own & IMO lots of ppv buys are from folks wanting to see Tim get beaten down.

I dont know if sylvia is worth that much but i would for sure give him a raise to a base salary of atleast $150,000 per fight which would be a $50,000 raise from his current salary

When he draws viewers and PPV buys like Lesnar does, then he will get Lesnar money. Honestly, I think if he has more fights like his first two with Arlovski and his last fight against Nog and less like his third fight with Arlovski and the one against Monson he’ll get a substantial raise.

ViolentMike: I got some news for you that will brighten your day….Check it out:
In the post-UFC 82 press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Fitch would be next in line for a title shot once “this whole Matt Serra and Georges St. Pierre thing gets figured out.” Those two fighters headline an April 19 event in Canada.
White also hinted that Fitch had the opportunity to sit out the early part of 2008 to wait for his title shot. Instead, he lauded the 30-year-old fighter for taking the fight with Wilson.
Fitch is gets next title shot after Serr/GSP is OFFICIAL!

Loosing Tim would be terrible for the UFC heavyweight division, especially since we dont know what Arlovski is going to do.
I never thought I would want big poopy to be re-signed so badly!

after lesnar loses some more fights he won’t be a draw, i have never been a fan of tims but he is with out a dout in the top 6 in the h/w’s and the ufc should not let him go some where else.if they don’t pay him someone will and there are some great match ups for him out of the ufc.

Randy was offered a title shot against Nogueira again this past weekend. the UFC is awaiting a response. The UFC offered Randy a match against Nogueira before, but at that time Nogueira wasn’t the interim Champion. Hopefully Nogueira having the title will entice Randy into fighting him!!!!!!
PLEASE RANDY step up for the fans 1 last time and fight Nogueira in what would be the biggest UFC Heavyweight title fight of all time!

Now THAT is news. Finally, they make a correct decision about who should be the #1 contender. But, I still can’t wait to hopefully see Thiago Alves destroy Karo.
Fitch’s performance against Wilson was VERY lackluster. I don’t know how any of the judges gave Fitch round 1. That fight was even going into the 3rd round. Fitch REALLY needs to step up his game if he is going to be fighting GSP next.

Speaking of Kongo, he was a dissapointment this past weekend. Its as if the kickboxer had never seen someone throw a punch at him before. He looked surprised and scared whenever Heath engaged. I thought that Kongo would get laid on for half of two rounds and lose a decision. I really wish I stuck with my gut feeling… Also, I hope I convinced you to A)not bet on Sakara and B) bet that money on Leben. I am still kicking myself in the head for not putting the money I put on Kongo on Leben as well. (I bet on both of them) I didn’t see anyway that Leben would lose that fight.

I was about to call you during the 1st round of the Fitch fight. I know you got scared when he got rocked.
Did anyone know that Fitch’s 8-0 UFC winning streak is tied with Royce Gracie for the biggest winning streak in UFC history. I had no Idea, but it is true!

Let him leave if he wants. Its a positive for the fans either way, since if he stays he has some good fighters to fight (as already stated) and if he leaves he will likely end up fighting Fedor which is also a fight I am sure we would all like to see. The same for Alovski.
If the UFC heavyweight division is weak that just means there are a lot of good heavyweights out there fighting somewhere else.
I like the UFC, but my loyalty only goes so far since their fighter payrolls are less than 2 million yet their numbers just form the gate far exceed that, not to mention payperview and endorsements. If they don’t want to share the wealth with the fighters, I have no issue watching them somewhere else. The reality is if that starts to happen, the UFC will start paying up eventually anyway.
This is all positive for us fans no matter how it goes down.

I could live with Kongo standing up with Hearing and loosing, but I think he tried to show that he was well rounded and that he could wrestle, that he totally abandoned his bread and butter (striking) and it cost him the fight. Who the hell could have known that Kongo would actually want to wrestle it out with Hearing and not Kickbozx at all?
I told u not to lay anything on Hendo? Silva made Dan “bult Ford tough” Henderson look “Built Kia weak”. I actually decided to lay some chump change on silva the day of the fight, as well as Gurgel so it wasn’t too bad.
Our underdog picks: Hazlett and Bielkehden choked, but cant fault Dustin. That 21 year old kid fought like a warrior and in the future he will be tough to deal with. I expect him to break into the top 10 by 2009. Kos just fought his ass off.
Beilkhedne gave up on us… Tapping due to strike…what a disgrace. Diego must have mounted him!

Fedor and M-1 arent working out and are considering parting ways. Hopefully Dana does the right thing, and gets rid of some of the ridiculous contractual clauses that he previously offered him and trea his brother FAIRLY as well since Aleksander would probably be top 10 of that division if not close too it.
Also Fedor has to realize that he cant use the UFC as a personal showcase for all his young red devil fighth team fighters, but if I were dana, I would accept a couple, especially Kiril. Also Fedor has to occasionally put Sambo on the back burner for his professional fighting career.
This could be Dana’s chance to fix everything! Sign Fedor, get Aleksander, Randy would come crawling back for sure. Dana would then be able to put on the biggest mma fighht of all time (Fedor vs. Randy) in the octagon and not have to share the limelight with any other promotions….and Ultimaetly Dana becomes an MMA GOD in the eyes of the fans. If Dana can pull this off, I will never bash him again!

Tim Sylvia’s next fight should be against either Kongo, Gonzaga, or Hearing (who is looking for someone to bang with)
Earlier I said that Mir vs. Hearing should be their next fighths, but Hearing is looking to stand and bang with someone so give him Sylvia or Gonzaga or Arlovski if he re-signs.
Imagine Arlovski vs. Hearing…. 1 thing is for sure, that Hearing will keep trying to engage which would make that fight a BANG!

The Current UFC Heavyweight divisions top fighters in no particular order:
Nogueira
Werdum
Gonzaga
Frank mir
Tim Sylvia
Brock Lesnar
Heath Hearing
Kongo
Verra
Arlvski (if he stays)
and I guess Mark coleman
Now if the UFC could sign Fedor, it would add 3 top fighters instantly because coming to terms with the Russian would add:
Fedor
Aleksander
Randy Couture
Now thats a complete Division!
Only fighters missing would be:
Josh barnett
Antonio Silva
Segie Kharitonov
Cro Cop

I agree completely. If Dana pulls this off somehow, he once again rules. But if he lets this slip through his fingers I wouldn’t really be surprised. Upset, but not surprised.

Why would Tim think he is top 5 by getting choked out? Atleast Arlovski won his past 3 fights. No one can really say that Tims fights were more exciting than Arlovski’s. The only thing exciting was the fact he lost 2 of them. One to Couture that was quite memorable. When was the last time you heard a crowd go nuts like they did for Randy that night. Arlovski finished 2 of his last 3. Maybe not as exciting as i’d like from the Pitbull, but more exciting than laying on Vera for 3 rounds. Give Arlovski what Tim was making and put it on top of his next contract or find a really good HW that deserves to be there. The HW division is hurting and there is no time to be penny pinchers.

Arlovski’s last 5 fights = 3-2
He beat Jake O’Brien, Fabricio Werdum, and Marcio Cruz
He lost to Tim Sylvia and Tim Sylvia
Tim Sylvia’s last 6 fights = 4-2
He beat Arlovski, Arlovski, Jeff Monson and Brandon Vera.
He lost to Randy Couture and Big Nog.
I would say that right now, they should be ranked right around the same number, but seeing that Timmy has 2 wins to Arlovski’s 1 win in head to head fights, I would rank Timmy ahead of Arlovski.
