UFC Quick Quote: Big Nog predicts knockout win for Anderson Silva at UFC 82

Anderson Silva Antonio Nogueira

"Push the fight as much as you can, I tell him [Anderson Silva]. Dan Henderson is good in the first round or two. If the fight keeps going, he starts going downhill. I think [Silva] wins by KO no later than the third."

-- UFC Heavyweight Champion, Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira , tells the Los Angeles Times that he predicts friend and training partner, Anderson Silva, will defeat Dan Henderson during the UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" main event tonight via third round knockout. Nogueira has fought Henderson twice in his career overseas, losing one contest and winning the other.

Hendo, Hendo, Hendo…early 2nd round TKO.
Nog gets his ass kicked for 3 rounds and squeeks out a decision. What does he know about finishing a fight? I don’t see this fight going and going and going.
I can’t wait to see this one!
War Hendo

Do not see this fight going five in any way shape or form. Do not care who wins though. Fully admire and appreciate both these top notch fighters. Bounced back and forth given their various strenghts but had to put my bet down on spider. Figure early third TKO with a knee.

I can’t say that this is surprising. They do train together and are good friends. What does anyone expect him to say? I remember the post a while back where Anderson and Big Nog were sparring without head gear and Anderson was taking it to him. I think the Spider should be giving him advice.

by pez on Mar 1, 2008 11:23 AM EST reply actions

Besides Wandy, when was da last time Hendo finished a fight??? Don’t c Hendo laying on the Spider for 5 rounds with out getting bit;) I wit Big Nog… Spider wins by TKO no later than the 3rd round.!.

Hendo doesn’t have to finish the fight to win. He could most likely pull a Couture/Sylvia and grind out the win. I actually think he’s going to take down Silva and win 3 out of 5 rounds.

I guess you haven’t watched many of big nog’s fight have you? first off, you can’t get beat for 3 rounds and get a decision, second, even though he had many decision wins he finishes most of his fights, including your ex-champ, third, his decision wins are against top athletes.

BUD LIGHT, TEQUILA HORNITOS, Silva vs. Henderson, today just can’t get no better. I think there’s no shame in either of the fighters to go to decision. There both elite fighters it won’t be easy for either of them. I will get drunk and hopefully watch the fight of the year. If Hendo doesn’t win who is out there than even stands a chance?

by JV on Mar 1, 2008 12:15 PM EST reply actions

After Hendo loses, the UFC should try and get creative- Paulo Filho may be in the wrong league, but he’s one of the biggest threats to Silva in the weight class. If GSP beats Serra, I think he should start training for Middleweight and take Anderson’s belt.

I’d also like to see Machida fight Anderson. That would be a sick technical striking match.

by skatanicus on Mar 1, 2008 12:46 PM EST reply actions

I have a feeling Silva will win this one. As a betting man, I wont be touching this fight. When you have such a great and exciting match up like this one, no need to bet $ on it to add interest and excitement to the fight. As a matter of fact this fight will be perfect for us fans, and the only thing that could ruin the night would be to loose big money on the fight.

I bet a couple of the other fights, but I wont be wagering $ on the main event. To wonderful of a match up to risk ruining it by loosing money. Its perfect as it is!!!!

I agree. Silva(GSP) is just more well rounded than Henderson(Hughes) but we’ll see about that tonight.

Silva never pushes the fight. He sits back and then capatalizes when possible.

I don’t like to get drunk on fight night. I got hammered the night of UFC75, and that sucked afterwards because i have no recollection of it. Everyone was talking about the Hamill bisping fight, and i also wanted to see henderson jackson. Oh well, I watch these at resteraunts now so no alcohol anyways.

If you’re going to play the Joe Rogan Drinking Game I strongly recommend using the Bud Light instead of the Hornitos. You’ll still get nice and buzzed, but there is a much smaller chance of waking up behind a Whataburger at 4:00 in the morning without your pants and an all-encompassing feeling of regret and shame.

Hey guys kinda off topic here, but if they don’t show some of the prelimenary card tonight will those fights be on the UFC website for viewing? I know they had done that a few times in the past.

by creeks on Mar 1, 2008 1:57 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, but you have to pay for them. Not sure if you pay for each individual fight or for all of the prelims, but I know you have to pay to watch them.

this has to be the most even main event in a long time…i cant remember the last time i couldnt say who had the advantage

by the way we need a ufc ppv in indiana

-yes well just have to wait and see wont we… Silva is great but remember, hes faced franklin and yes destroyed him but HENDO is no franklin! I think hendo could get him out of rythim but he needs to be careful because silva is more dangerous on the ground then his stand up in my opinion. As long as we get the best possible fight out of these 2 i will be ok with either one winning, we cant ask for anything more! this is a great matchup finally!

GO HENDO! TKO 3RD ROUND

What else would you expect Nog to say, yeah I think henerson will beat my training partner.

But anyone with half a brain knows the only advantage anderson has on dan is speed and his technical striking. Every other facet of the game Dan has the upperhand.

by dia mette on Mar 1, 2008 3:29 PM EST reply actions

I guess anderson has the advantage in the submission game as well,

I wish a guy like dan would earn a bjj black belt he would then be unstoppable

by dia mette on Mar 1, 2008 3:31 PM EST reply actions

Why does everybody say Silva/St. Pierre? Yes Rush is a bad man but he’d be to small at 185 most of the guys in that weight class are really 205ers. I’m sure he can beat alot of the B class fighters but Elite I don’t think so. Ofcourse it would be a good match to see but so would BJ at HW fighting Tim Silvia. Doesn’t mean he’s got much of a chance though.

Ya that would be fight of the millenium if GSP moved up to middleweight to fight Silva.

by GSP4Prez on Mar 1, 2008 7:05 PM EST reply actions

Big nog’s prediction is obviously off the expiriance he has when HE fought Dan, which was open weight obviously and Dan was grappling a much bigger man for a long time, that is why he wnet downhill, lemme just say that…. It is a lot more tiring to throw 240lb(im not actually sure) big nog around then it will be to throw 185lb anderson around. Such a hard fight to call.
