Joe Rogan on UFC 82, EliteXC CBS TV deal, Fedor vs. Couture on ESPN (Video)

Joe Rogan is the man. Curious as to whether or not UFC President Dana White called him shortly after this interview regarding his candor:

“Ballet of Violence”. That is the perfect phrase to sum up Anderson Silva. I love Joe Rogan, i think he needs to stay. He is great in interviews and he is a good comentator.

It really seems that Dana is the ONLY one who thinks the UFC is the only MMA organization in existence. Even Joe gave props to EliteXC for making the CBS deal happen and didn’t bash the Randy vs Fedor fight. Dana better realize that the UFC isn’t the only organization out there.

thats right…rogan is a fan of MMA, yes he works for UFC, but he enjoys the sport in general…and i think i can speak for most fans and say thats how we feel too…dana is in the minority, and if he responds to joe’s comments with any kind of disagreement hes gonna look like a moron…

Thats why I always liked Rogan. For the most part, he is accurate. He tells it like it is. He is a really big mma fan. He knows about all kinds of mma fights, weather they take place in the UFC or some small start up company, Rogan knows about it. I respect him a lot.

I think the commentary dream-team would be Rogan and Bas Rutten calling an event together. That would be the best possible combination of commentators that an mma event could have.

I cant listen to the video, can anyone tell me what he said about the Fedor vs. Couture fight?

He is promoting MMA not the UFC which in my opinion is good, I bet Dana did have some words with him about this.

You Dana haters should slow down for a second. Nothing Joe said was a swipe at Dana, he just made a lot of fan-of-the-sport observations we all agree with.

Look, I’m no Dana apologist; I really wish he could form a sentence I could read or watch with women in the room. It’s stupid to constantly bag on him like he’s the devil of MMA though, because let’s be real: we would NOT have this great sport we love without him! He’s proven he’s great at promotion, branding and running his business.

I don’t wanna go have dinner with him, and I wish he’d do a few things differently, but it sounds like too many guys on these boards are like 4th graders. “OOOooooh! Joe mentioned another network! Haha take that Dana!”

It’s a fact of business that not all deals can work out in the same promotion. The fact that other promotions are having success is not a sign of Dana’s failure, but rather of the explosive growth of this awesome sport. It’s basic macroeconomics: “a rising tide lifts all boats” as the saying goes. Kimbo Slice has been good for the UFC. The UFC has been good for Bob Sapp. Think about it.

Cracks me up how much some guys just want to hate somebody, and as the face and figurehead of the biggest company, Dana gets to be the guy. Dana’s job is not to do run opinion polls and do what all internet board MMA fans want, it’s to make money for Zuffa.

All that said… I wanna see Randy and Fedor fight! I think Randy should stop being a baby and honor the NEW contract he got to sign.

EliteXC on CBS is great for all of us. It’s no ding on the UFC at all.

Definatly love to see someone express their opinion and love for something no matter who what or where. It does seem that either joe does not work directly for dana or he does not give a hoot. Although given dana’s piss ass attitude that is well known, joe is probably playing up the neutral role for PR so the UFC does not look completly like the evil empire.

I really admire and respect Joe Rogan. He is a true fan of the sport and he speaks his mind.

Anyone ever see that Fear Factor with the reality stars? lol One of the guys gets in his face and Joe puts him in a Thai clinch. You could tell he knew what he was doing, and looked like he was just about to kiss his face with his knee, but the scene changed.

Dana can talk all of the shit he wants to talk but he knows deep down inside that he wants to see Randy Vs. Fedor just as much as anyone else. This fight has the potential to be the greatest fight in MMA history. I know it, Joe Rogan knows it, and Dana White knows it.

by jimmy_dean on Mar 1, 2008 1:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

In reality Rogan isn’t really saying much that would get Dana overly pissed. Even Dana himself said that he likes the fact that these other organizations are around. I may be in the minority here, but after doing some research on the details of the deal that EliteXC accepted from CBS – it isn’t that great and I don’t blame Dana for turning it down. As always, with contracts, “the devil is in the details”. EliteXC is rolling the dice here. Essentially they are buying time on CBS starting in April. CBS gets free programming on a night that not many people watch TV. EliteXC has to sell an absolute ton of advertising in order to even break even in April. IMO the odds are against them. If their first event doesn’t meet expectations – the deal is over and EliteXC will most likely go bankrupt. But I give them props for gambling. If I was EliteXC though I would be concerned with having Kimbo Slice on the card. He doesn’t appear to be the most stable person and I think that there is a high probability of him doing something innappropriate during the fight and that would be a big blow to MMA gaining acceptance. I do think though that the UFC has a much better deal in the works with either Fox or ABC/ESPN.

It seams as though Rogan is positioning himself for a new job because if I was his employer and he just dolled out all that free advertisement for the comp, I WOULD BE PISSED!

None of this is true. There is alot of bad information out there on the boards… even Dana knows that.

I could care less if UFC goes mainstream or not. Actually, I would rather it stay all PPV so I don’t have to sit through commercials. lol

He didn’t advertise anything. Most of the organizations he mentioned, dana himself has talked about. And mma fans know there are other org. We’re not oblivious.

I learned alot about mma through roegan calling fights over the years.

—AGREE! and great job joe on speaking the truth!

as far as dana goes…again, i still dont comprehend how some of you still defend him, hes a liar and hes deceitful!! and dont understand how a fan of MMA can still back him like he can do no wrong!

He is full of excuses and thats why most experienced MMA fans hate him! it because of what he stands for.

CASE IN POINT: In a recent interview he was asked what he thought of the HEAVYWEIGHT division and how it is without randy? he replied, “it is stacked” its one of the best weight divisions right now….LOL…you should have seen his face. He seriously believes his own lies as they are coming out of his ass! the guy has a problem with acknowledging truth!!!! he cant even admit when asked that the division is struggling…hes a joke!

rogan talks the truth

dana cant be overly pissed with him as he wasnt disrespectful in any way to the ufc

joe is a huge asset to the ufc

compare him to the incoherent idiots like bill goldberg that other shows suffer with

if dana were to fire him hed be flooded with job offers

I get sick of all of the UFC commercials on the PPV. It is as bad as the commercials because they are all repeats.

All of you are crazy!! Except maybe Doc Samson and especially Team Priapism. You are reading TOO MUCH into this. Joe was just promoting the sport, not taking a shot at Dana White, who is not the bad guy.If it wasn’t for Dana White most of these guys would never have got the exposure they deserve. This is a business. If business isn’t handled right it fails.Dana gave Fedor the most exposure he ever had in his career. The impact of UFC helped everyone. IFL, Elite XC, WEC, etc. So what Dana doesn’t do what you guys like, but maybe that’s why he’s successful and you are not. Stop looking for something to hate and enjoy the fact that MMA finally has moved to the major leagues..Thanks to people like Dana White.

Dana couldn’t have liked that interview. Joe was way too honest for Dana’s liking. I’m sure he would have preferred him to say no comment or pretend like he couldn’t hear the question then change the subject.

Dana can certainly do wrong, but as an MMA fan I realize that if it wasn’t for Dana, MMA wouldn’t be nearly what it is today. Although I understand the “case in point” you are making, and it certainly has validity, in Dana’s mind it is different. It wasn’t that long ago that Big Timmy was champ, and Jeff Snowman Monson was the #1 contender. Now fastforward ‘til now and Big Nog is champ, CroCop has been beaten twice by 2 new contenders, he’s added Brock Lesnar and Werdum to his HW stable. In Dana’s mind, things are looking stacked compared to where they used to be.

What do you expect? You want Dana to say, “Yeah, the HW division sucks without Randy and Fedor. I wish Fedor would have signed and Randy fulfilled his contract.” Not gonna happen. FYI, Gary Shaw, Mark Cuban or any other promoter isn’t gonna say this kind of crap either. Honestly, the Dana bashing is starting to border on complete …
