Special UFC announcement coming today at 1 p.m.

UFC special announcement
UFC President Dana White will make a special announcement this afternoon during the UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" pre-fight press conference at 1 p.m. ET, according to UFC.com.

Here's the snip:

"UFC® President Dana White will be making a major announcement at the UFC® 82 PRIDE OF A CHAMPION pre-fight press conference in Columbus, Ohio. UFC.COM will feature the official announcement at 1pm EST. Look for video highlights of the press conference featuring Dana White, along with a special guest, making the announcement later in the day."

Special guest? Who could this mystery person possibly be, Mark Coleman? Or is it someone -- or something -- much bigger?

Let the speculation commence.

Of course we'll pass along all of the official details as soon as possible.

Normally their “secret” announcements are known by most fans prior to it being made but I have no clue what this could be.

Its going to be an attempt by the UFC to counter EliteXC news of signing a deal with CBS (that will be headlined by Kimbo)

The news will probably be:

-UFC has reached its own deal with a big time network

-More likely, is that the UFC will announce airing UFC 85 on Spike Tv for Free.

Other news for you Matt Lindland fans:

Lindland has signed a very lucrative contract with a new American-based promotion. It is a 3 fight contract and he said he will be competing at middleweight.

If I had to guess…Cuban got his hands on Lindland!

I bet it’s the Mark Coleman hall of fame thing…but who cares?

I’m still hoping for Randy vs. Fedor although I know that this will not happen in the UFC.

Donald Trump will be there to announce the deal he helped broker between the UFC and NBC. Maybe.

Maybe Randy has agreed to fight Nog???

They did say Dana and a guest will be announcing the news..

..probably not, but I can still hope…

From what I’ve heard, on the May UFC event they will be announcing the release or at least giving us more info on the BADASS UFC game they are coming out with. http://mmamania.com/2007/07/12/video-sneak-peek-at-the-latest-ufc-video-game-for-ps3-and-xbox/. I could care less about a network announcement today. And I really dont know of any fighters that the UFC doesnt already have that i would be excited about seeing. Im hoping more that they are giving us information about this UFC game because there has been no information given for a year. Cant wait to drink some ice cold beer…get online…and Knock Some Biotches Out!!!

I think the special Appearance will more than likely be Randy Couture, and they will announce that he will be fighting Big Nog for the championship in August.

Or maybe they signed Ben Rothwell.

All of this speculation makes me happy, but yet it will probably be like Matt Hughes saying “I fight Matt Serra win or lose.. Jesus For Ever!”

I think the fact that the Mark Coleman / Hall of fame thing has already been circulating for a while (Hopefully) rules that out as the announcement…

I say hopefully because I’m quite excited to find out what it is now, and if it is the MC thing then it’ll be like…Oh, right, ok. Anyways UFC 82 in 2 days!!!

NC-17: Randy reconciling with the UFC and accepting a fight with Nogueira is “the best case scenario”, However I doubt it. Lets face it Randy has changed, he seems very determined about only wanting Fedor. Lets keep our fingers crossed because Couture vs. Nogueira would be the greatest and Biggest heavyweight title match ever to take place in the UFC.

I doubt it, but I will keep my fingers crossed!

LMAO!!! u crack me up!!
It may be Randy’s announcement but i highly doubt it considering hes waiting for Fedor and already has a deal in the works with M1. Plus if he lost to Nog then all the hype for Fedor vs. Randy would be lost. And if its the signing of Ben Rothwell then that would be somewhat ok, just becuase i want to see him finally fight someone good and get KO’d.

I think the most likely announcement is that Dana has been banging Tito’s wife Jenna Jameson and has gotten her pregnant. lol. I can already see it now…UFC 90: Battle For The Baby!!! Featuring Dana vs. Tito!!

I really hope your kidding!! First of all who the hell would want to watch Jardine’s ugly unpersonable ass throughout the whole season of TUF?? And if you think Jardine vs. Rampage would bring more hype then the Ultimate Fighter 1 winner (Forrest) vs. rampage then just go jump off a cliff right now. Plus if Forrest wins somehow then imagine the PPV sales for the next title fight which would be Chuck (the coach) vs. Forrest (the student) of TUF 1. Dana Has dollar signs in his eyes and is marketing his business perfectly at the moment

I read on other sites that the announcement will probably be a big time sponsor (bigger than Harley Davidson) joining up with the UFC, or a new TV deal.

I think that they will either announce that UFC Liddell vs Shogun will be free on Spike TV, or they will announce a new TV deal with a major network.

This news will 99.99% have nothing to do with Randy Couture, since Mark Cuban and his HDnet fights already has a court case going with the UFC regarding Randy’s contract. I don’t know the timeline of that court case, I don’t believe it began yet, but unless something big came of that, this news will not be about Randy.

i hope the annoucement is that the ufc in england will be free with exelite signing with cbs i think the ufc would be wise to at least go toe to toe with them and throw a free pay per view out there right now to coincide with this.

I hear that it is a new blue chip mainstream sponsor. That could be wrong. But it sure if run reading peoples speculations.

I do have to say that Gary Shaw has just put one up on Dana.

What is interesting is doesn’t the CBS Corporation own indirectly own Spike?

I think Spike is part of the MTV Networks which is part of Viacom which is owned by CBS? But I think CBS and Viacom are operated separately? Anyone?

We will see.

I would have to agree with your line of thinking. With the CBS deal with EliteXC, Dana couldn’t allow them to keep the MMA spotlight for more then 24 hours. My guess is that they have a TV deal in place. I’m actually hoping this is the case. Two promotions on two major networks…that would be great.

No way, that sounds crazy but it very well could be true…

The rumor should be…

There will be a new division added 265LBS.

New sponsor is Visa… Earn knockout rewards.

Obama vs Clinton.

Signing Yoshida Hidehinko… (You know the Judo guy in Pride)

Pride FC will be up and running this summer. And Joe Rogan will be the man running the show over across. Which will have its own belts but each yr there will be a cross promotion featuring.

UFC has added a new show to spike it will air once a month and have 3 fights on it and will be a loser doesnot get thier contract resigned The new show will be “Knocked-out”.

UFC will add an annual event it will be a team vs team event Each team has 7 fighters, with the winners taking an added bonus.

I actually heard a rumor that a tv show called Grudge was gonna happen. The 2 disgrunteled people sign-up to work with a fighter for a month or so and settle it in the octagon…
But they draw thier coach at random and must have no prior experience…

Alright “LOVA” first off if you follow the UFC as much as your name suggests then you will know that Jardine earned a shot at the title by beating Forrest and Liddell. Jardine does lack a personality and I question how he wins with that off-balanced, herky jerky fight approach he has. I agree that Forrest will sell more tickets and ppvs because his “I don’t give a fuck” attitude and his work ethic are why he has a huge fan base. He will also be a better TUF coach than Jardine would ever be, and I never suggested that Jardine should be a coach. All I simply said is Jardine deserves a title shot before Forrest does. Jardine is 5-2 in the UFC which should be 6-1 because he made Bonner his bitch. He also made Forrest his bitch. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Forrest, but in my opinion Jardine deserves a title shot before Forrest does.

One of the many reasons fedor wouldnt sign with the UFC is simply because Dana White wants full control of him. Fedor competes in Sambo fights for his native russia and As you all know sambo is a huge sport in russia. Fedor is like russia’s big name guy, and as per the contract offered by Dana he wouldnt be permitted to do anything other then what the furor Dana White allows.

As for the pay day I heard Fedor was offered pretty much the biggest UFC purse to date but still turned it down due to the stipulations of the contract.

Trust me they offered big bucks to Fedor… Cro Cop was on what Brock earn’t. They would have offered more for Fedor. I think it was a case of A) UFC wanting to tie Fedor to their organisation (no Sambo comps) B) He wanted to stay in Japan/Russia C) Him not wanting to come out of his comfort zone ie a ring.

I don’t blame the UFC for not landing Fedor, they knew how important he is. I think Fedor just didn’t want to play by their rules.

MMA needs to loosen the stranglehold UFC has on the sport. Fighters should be able to negotiate per fight contracts if they have enough pull.

I’m really tired of watching that bald-headed idiot White talk tough. That fool has to keep putting his ugly mug in the middle of everything – sorta like a white-man’s Don King, without the hair, of course…
