Evan Tanner: Comeback 'fun again' at UFC 82

Evan Tanner
Props: Yahoo!Sports.com

Quoteworthy:

"... I have to go out there and keep him from fighting his fight, but I don't have a clue what's really going to happen. I think I do better in anything I do when I'm really not sure what's around the next corner. I just kind of go off and explore on my own.... I'm going to get in there and figure it out as we go. I don't have a clue if I'll win. I just know it's fun again."

Eccentric former middleweight champion, Evan Tanner, talks about his latest adventure that is set to take place inside the Octagon against Yushin Okami at UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" this Saturday, March 1 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. He hasn't competed in a professional mixed martial arts bout in more than two years and will be up against one of the top contenders in the 185-pound category right out of the gate. Interesting definition of fun ... can't wait. To check out his physical transformation click here.

Well that doesnt make me very confident about the 20 dollars I just threw down on him the other day. Damn, there goes my lunch for the week.

Tanner is a wildcard and a drunk….but if he comes in in good shape focused and ready to go…damn it will be a good fight, but I will have to see that to believe it

i personally think your odds are better to pick Danny Tanner to win this fight better than Evan Tanner. i have also been known as an idiot though.

Its quite possible that not one fan in the US will be rooting for okami, not to mention Tanner is the underdog.

If tanner can pull off the victory, the packed house in OH will go crazy and it will set the tone for the rest of the card leading right into the main event where once again, The crowd will be in favor of Dan for sure.

tanner is a brave man, but okami is really at the top of the division, tanner on the other hand has had a lot of defeats even when he was in his prime

I don’t see him pull this off.

not to mention that okami almost beat franklin a*s and rich annihilated tanner twice when he hadn’t had two years off

Hey Mania.

On ufc.com they are saying that Dana White is making a “special announcement” at UFC 82…

UFC 85 May b e televised for free by SPIKE TV. Spike will make a decision soon, but I do here that it was offered to them by the UFC.

EliteXc, who we all know signed a deal with CBS is talking about having Kimbo Slice headline the 1st ever mma Braocast!….. What a shame!

This fight is a total wild card, that has me very hesitant to bet on. Evan Tanner has not fought in two years and we all know what his life has been like during those two years. During those same two years, Yushin Okami has been tearing up the UFC MW division with the exception of Rich Franklin (Rich has Evans number). If Evan Tanner didn’t leave the sport after his fight with Jusin Levens and have his life turn into a turmoil, then I would like Tanner in this fight. A Tanner in his prime would beat Okami right now. But I have no idea what Evan Tanner is going to show up on Saturday.

But if I were to bet, I would bet on Okami, but the odds are currenlty to high at -200. (I did bet some play money on MMAplayground on him though, LOL)

I agree…no one knows what kind of condition Tanner will be in physically or mentally for this fight after all he has been through over the past 2 years. I’m really eager to see the weigh-ins tomorrow to see what kind of shape he comes in. I think Okami will be too strong for Tanner and that will make the difference in this fight. Okami will dictate the pace as he usually does which won’t be terribly exciting but I’d like to see Okami go up against Silva if he retains the belt.

I am not messing with this fight. I just dont bet on guys with damaged livers who havent fought in years! You cant bet on Okami, because then you would have to root for his boring-ass. Watching an Okami fight that you bet on is like pulling teeth…..Trust me, I had him over Swick and even though I won $, it was not fun at all

I don’t know what’s worse, you making a Full House reference on here or me getting it. At least most of the chicks from that show turned out hot. As far as the fight goes, I wouldn’t trust a guy who’s been playing pirate for two years. If the odds on Okami were better I met throw a few bucks down on him, but my site right now has him at -230.

I really wish i understood these betting figures… then I’d NOT place a bet on this fight!

The site I use (not the one recommended by Mania) has Tanner at plus-185 and Okami at minus-230. This means Okami is the favorite and Tanner the underdog. A $100 bet on Tanner at plus-185 would pay out $185 if he were to win. Conversely, you would have to put up $230 on Okami in order to win $100.

thanks for the explanation,i would probably put my money on tanner and hope that he finishes okami.i hate the way okami nevr finishes anyone.i hope tanner can re-establish himself as atop 10 fighter at 185.

For those considering wagering money on this fight… CONSIDER THIS:
Okami is going to put Tanner on his back and be able to keep him there, thats for certain. Tanner has an excellent Triangle choke off his back, Okami (like most Japanease fighters) has great submission defense. That is what will determine the fight. Can Okami G n P Tanner for 15 minutes while avoiding getting caught in a triangle choke? Answer that question before laying money on either fighter.

Do you realize the significance of Evan Tanner out doing David Terrel in there fight concerning the ground game? David Terrel is a crazy good grappler, beat marcelo garcia in a grappling tourny, (maybe abudabi but not sure).

Let me ask you this John, do you not see Tanner and Rich as similar skill level fighters, with similar strenght? Cuz Okami did NOT put Rich on this back, and as far as top position goes, would you not say Tanner is better than Rich? At Least I know Tanner would not get caught in that kimura Rich almost did!

Tanner will win, he will prove to us all he is back. I hope he fights visciously and holds nothing back.

by Trav-Dog on Feb 28, 2008 8:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

My money is on Tanner! Hopefully with this fight he will prove he is back and show us what he can really do when training full time. In the past he would only train for a month and a half when he knew he had a fight. War Tanner!
