Quoteworthy:

"After my fight [with Sean Sherk] i was suspended for a year,i could not fight in USA,so i got some calls to fight in Canada, england, japan etc ... so i ask [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva to finish my contract with UFC, i told him i need to fight to make money ,told him to please let me fight and finish my contract( i was out of focus) and his gently did it. So, i spoke with Mr. Armando Garcia, and he told me , if i do some fights out of USA i could not fight in USA anymore never. So i decide don't fight and wait until july,So now i don't have any contract, but of course i will try come back to the UFC( just if u guys wish hermes franca back again lol), or wait for another offer from another organization. That's it. But i am doing good guys, really busy ,doing seminars in all over the world ,i am in canada now, and next week arizona, winsconsin, north carolina ,south carolina ,i am training with differents fighters and camps(marcelo garcia, pablo popovitch,B.J. penn ,marck bocek,etc...) Really nice to talk to you guys ,thank you to all my fans!!!!! "PEACE AND LOVE."

Former number one UFC lightweight contender, Hermes Franca, a few days ago detailed his current situation since the loss to then division champion, Sean Sherk, at UFC 73: "Stacked" in July 2007 and his subsequent positive test for steroids after the bout. Franca was fined and suspended for 12 months because he did not appeal the decision. Sherk -- who also tested positive for steroids after the bout -- had his suspension reduced by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) to six months and is free to fight again. Franca has to wait until July or risk being unable to compete again in the United States -- something he more than likely did not know when he asked to be released from the UFC.

I’d like to see Franca back in the WEC. I bet Jaimie Varner who is the current WEC Lightweight Champion would like to fight Franca, especially since Varner lost to Franca when the two fought in the UFC.

Deeep thinker he is. WOW. First supposedly uses roids to recover from injury before a championship bout and now this. Strategy of any sort is definatly not this guys strong suit.

I like Franca, but I think the division has passed him by. There’s no way he becomes a number one contender now, with how stacked the division is. I hope to see him back in the UFC, but I don’t think losing him to another promotion will hurt the UFC too much.

LOL…

Also, why would he not be able to fight in US again if he did over-seas, that’s a bit harsh. I don’t condone roids at all but punishment is punishment.

ToeLock, this is why all oif the Vitor Belfort coming back to the UFC is just a rumor right now…he fought in England even though he was still suspended in the US after testing positive after a US PRIDE event…I hope to see Hermes back though, but the NSAC has too much power if you ask me….

Anyways, off the topic and Im sorry, but I need some info if anyone has it. My girlfriend brought home an LCD HD TV the other day, does anyone know what I have to do to make it HD? Is it just a cable, a cable box, or a program with the cable company? Thanks in advance.

The UFC probably liked the idea of Hermes leaving, otherwise they would have clued him in to the fact that while suspended by the ?SAC, fighting anywhere under another sanctioning body results in a ban from fighting in the ?SAC.

mma dude,

All of the above. You need an HD box(cable/sat), cable (preferrably HDMI if your tv supports it) and HD subscription from you Cable/Satellite company.

He’s getting a lot more crap from the steroids thing than sean sherk.

That’s kind of funny that he mentions training with Penn’s camp after Penn was so hard on Sherk about the roids.

i would like to see him in wec also, but since zuffa owns both orgs im sure his suspension holds there as well. iwould like to see him in elitexc against nick diaz or k.j. noons. i think if healthy he could give both a helluva fight and possibly win their title

Does any one know if he is doing a seminar in AZ while he is down here?

I would like to see Franca go challenge some of those Japanease LW for a little and then come back to the UFC. Hermes is a very tough and crafty dude, I would be really interested in seeing how Gomi matches up against Franca. I think his suspensions will all be in affect in America, so no UFC, no WEC, and no Elite XC for Franca…. Time to go over to the land of the rising sun!

Franca can’t fight until July and if he fights before that anywhere even over seas he has broken the rules passed by whatever organization banned him. He won’t be permitted back into their fighting organizations because of it.

I think Franca is an elite LW, and I really would like to see him back in the UFC at some point.

Did anyone know that Franca has fought Nate diaz? To see the fight go over to www.myvideofight.com

ditto…. the ufc knows the deal with this…. they went through this before with Cabbage fighting in hawaii while under drug suspension…. UFC can’t use him in the states anymore….Cabbage can only fight in hawaii now because they don’t have a state athletic commission that regulates mma.

Joe Silva and Dana saw an out in the contract and took it. I bet Hermes wondered what that loud giggling sound was after he closed the door to Dana’s office upon getting his release.

Personally I feel that Hermes Franca is a top 10 UFC lightweight fighter. I like his game a lot, and I hope that he eventually returns to the UFC.

Why do so many of you want him in the WEC? Hermes can bang with the best of the UFC, he does not deserve to be demoted to the WEC. You guys are talking like he cant hang with UFC fighters, and I have no clue why any one could possibly feel that way.

I think that it is really interesting that Franca has been training with BJ Penn, what better way for BJ to train for a fight against Sherk, than by training with the last fighter Sherk faced (Franca)? Smart move on BJ’s part.

I really hope Franca finds his way back in the UFC. There are still many intruiging matches for him in the UFC LW division. i still want to see Franca face:
Florian
Huerta
Edgar (who is a great fighter but I believe Franca matches up really well with).

Even if he gets banned from fighting in America, the UFC has so many international cards that he could make a UFC career strictly by fighting in UFC events outside of the UFC. I feel that it would be a real travesty to never see Franca in the UFC.

by john on Feb 25, 2008 4:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That SURE would be a great fight (Franca vs Huerta) in july!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The UFC would be crazy to let Franca go completly he is top 10 in the world threw my eye’s and all my buddys………I dont know what all u haters r talking about????

It’s a little different when Hermes apologizes, admits it and faces the consequences like a man.

That was not Penn’s point, Penn said he was not a true fighter due to taking steriods no questions asked. This stands for Franca in this case. As for Sherk he used legitmate evidence to prove he was falsely accused, the ammount of steriods he would have taken in comparison to Franca were significantly smaller as well.

I don’t think it’s any different. It might make you like him more, but it doesn’t make him any better then Sherk. If you don’t like Sherk because he’s a cheater, then you are showing a bias towards Franca if you don’t hold him to the same standard. Personally, I don’t really dislike either one of them. I will be rooting for Sherk against Penn.

That is so True! Every man on the history of this earth has made his share of mistakes. He didnt hesitate one bit, he stood up like a man, appologized, and took his punishment like a man…. You can’t ask for more.

Look at baseball, which is getting TONS of media scrutiny. The cheaters who try to argue it and lie, are getting crucified. The ones who take it like a man, admit and apologize have all been forgiven.

If Sherk didnt make such a mess out of the situation and just appologized, I would be cool with it. But he drug it out, made all the fans wait through tons of crap and is still denying it… I cant respect that, and I like the fact that BJ calls him out on it!

At least this guy owned up to his roid use, unlike the ‘Muscle-Nimo’ Sherk. Granted Franca would probably never fight for the title again, but he didn’t deserve to have his suspension stay the same and Sherk have his reduced, in other words treated differently. Sherk failed the same test and showed no evidence that he didn’t take roids, except to show up at a few hearings an bitch and moan like a little girl in some interviews. Justice is blind huh? Franca admits his wrong-doing and has to serve the whole suspension. I like how Dana didn’t have Franca’s back like he had Sherk’s.

what the hell sherk says he didn’t do them and franca doesn’t and franca gets the bigger punishment. doesn’t make since unless sherk payed them off or something.

Cheers bro, I can’t claim to know anything about the way things go in the US, but seems that in sport there are in-consistent decisions all over the place in concern to an athletes punishment.

Hermes is still a top contender in my mind. And an exciting fighter as well. I dont care what organization he fights in, but hopefully hell go to elite xc, I think theres some great match ups for him there.
