Now watch UFC PPV events online at Yahoo! anywhere in the world

UFC 82 PPV on Yahoo

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Yahoo!Sports have struck a deal to stream pay-per-view (PPV) events LIVE over the Internet, according to UFC.com, providing fans worldwide with opportunities to now watch the telecasts in real time.

UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" on Saturday, March 1 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, will be the first PPV available to watch under the new deal.

Here's a snip from UFC President Dana White:

"This relationship with Yahoo! is an important step for the UFC to build its global distribution platform for live pay-per-view events. We are looking forward to working with Yahoo! Sports to expand our reach and bring the sport of mixed martial arts to fight fans in every corner of the world in every possible language."

The cost of the online streams will be the same as the traditional PPV ($44.95), meaning that the buys and profits going forward could be astronomical on a global scale.

In addition, when fans purchase a PPV event on Yahoo!Sports.com they also receive 24 hours of unlimited archive viewing. To purchase UFC 82 next weekend click here.

Congrats to the UFC and Yahoo!Sports for taking the sport into the 21st Century and to an entirely new level.

I am skeptical of my internet connection, but still, a bold move by Yahoo.

I am skeptical of my internet connection, but still, a bold move by Yahoo.

I’d be more skeptical of Yahoo’s bandwidth. yeah a fast internet connection doesn’t help if the bottle neck is at Yahoo’s site.

is that even a discounted price? greedy fuckheads

by Sephora MMA fans on Feb 21, 2008 1:39 PM EST reply actions

not cheaper than getting the PPV on cable. weak. I wonder if you get the prelims or something….

by amishPhysicist on Feb 21, 2008 2:01 PM EST reply actions

My guess is that it can’t discounted because of agreements with the PPV middlemen, such as the cable companies.

I’d bet a donut that there’s a clause in the agreements preventing UFC from offering the same content for cheaper on the Internet. It would be a major threat to the cable companies’ business, and don’t forget that they get to keep 50% of the PPV price!!!

or you could slip into a bar for the main event and buy a beer or 2. Still way cheaper than 44.95, and hey wut if ur internet goes down or you on xbox live thats alot of bandwidth.props for making the sport reachable to millions but i trhink it gonna be a lot of headaches.

No joke. I’ve gone to bars, drank and ate and paid less than 44 bucks. It may be worth it if you get all of the prelim fights.

you don’t get to see prelims.

This is great…. for the sport it puts it in places previously not reached, but I have a question… Why make a fight card and only televize some of the fights… I wouldn’t mind paying the 45 dollars if I could see the whole card… sometimes you hear about the non-televized fight being better than the main events…… Now that would be great

Yeah except going to the bar sucks because you have to deal with drunk idiots, overpriced beer and crappy sound.

i’d rather pay more and watch it on my bigscreen in the comfort of my own home.

Nobody should be making anymore excuses for not watching the fights now. Good job guys.

Yeah. unfortunately, they want you to go and buy the untelevised for an additional 2 bucks a fight the day after… so weak.

The EliteXC showed the undercards on proelite.com for free. The UFC needs to start doing more for the fans. Unless they want to let us go the way they do AA, Randy, CC, David Terrell and a bunch of others…Dana better get his act together.

Yup. I agree totally.

The prelims would be a bonus for the people that pay to go see it in person.

by Matt A on Feb 21, 2008 2:55 PM EST reply actions

Mania, Could the 24 hour viewing of archive material be of previous undercards? just a thought

Some people seem mad and upset, like this was gong to be an alternative way for cheapskates in the US to save a buck. That was not the purpose. The purpose was to allow the PPV broadcast to be global. So even if you live in a hut in Ethiopia, if you have a computer with an Internet connection, you can order the UFC PPV’s.

For example, what if the DREAM events are not carried by US cable providers? We’d have no opportunity to watch the event live. But if they were to follow suit with this live internet idea, a good number of US fans would order it over the computer.

I’m going to call a bunch of buddies over so we can drink some beers and huddle around my laptop to watch some fights.

Uhhh, they have already been streaming their PPV’s live via UFC on Demand. That’s how I watched the last four of them. I fail to see how this is any different.

by Judoka on Feb 21, 2008 3:27 PM EST reply actions

This actually works out well for me. I recently got rid of my digital cable because I was tired of having my checkbook raped every month by Mediacomm which has a local monopoly. Yeah free market system!

by A Lynch on Feb 21, 2008 3:28 PM EST reply actions

I orderd a ppv on ufc.com once and the picture quality sucked. With everything going HD they need to get live steams hd as well. Unless you have a 40in monitor screen or your tv is also your cpu monitor I woudnt recommend it.

by dia mette on Feb 21, 2008 3:29 PM EST reply actions

I had to watch the last one on my computer through a live feed, but this was free.

by Toms Bombs on Feb 21, 2008 3:52 PM EST reply actions

yahoo has some of the best online streaming technology out there.. i confirmed this a few months back when they had a strikeforce event or something streamed.. it was clear and flawless.

$44 tho? dont think so.. that’d cut into my beer budget, and that aint happenin’!

by meh on Feb 21, 2008 3:52 PM EST reply actions

Anyone know where Yahoo acquired the rights to streaming sports media? Anyone? They bought Broadcast.com from Mark Cuban and his business partner for $4 billion. Yes, I said billion. With a B.

by PW on Feb 21, 2008 4:12 PM EST reply actions

yeah but that entire card was also free to begin with.

If you call paying for showtime every month free.

by bnf on Feb 21, 2008 4:47 PM EST reply actions

If you call paying for showtime every month free.

basically. its included for free in my cable package. and even if it wasn’t showtime is a whole $5 a month. i spend more than that on coffee.

by kitsunex on Feb 21, 2008 5:05 PM EST reply actions

This would be better news if it was cheaper to watch it online. No way is it the same quality online it should be a lot cheaper.

by skatanicus on Feb 21, 2008 6:19 PM EST reply actions

Or you can do what I do with my extremely pathetic monthly salary and watch it for free on line on at least one site (that I know about) with pretty decent quality actually. I won’t share the site cuz I don’t want it to get taken down but if you want it bad enough look around and I’m sure you can find it.

Now obviously I would take the bar option every day plus twice on Saturday’s over this but when you work Tues.-Sat. 2-11p.m. basically, internet is really the only option (unless you can get out of the office for a few hrs.)

by Anthony on Feb 21, 2008 6:43 PM EST reply actions

Were missing the boat here. The online deal is not for those of us who order the PPV or go to the bars. This is intended for the global market who cannot get the PPV’s. This is a very smart move.

by J on Feb 21, 2008 7:32 PM EST reply actions

The internet is TOO flakey for that stuff.. I’ve never seen any live streaming that on the Net that I’d pay that price for. It’s too unpredictable, and F*** the situation where your net goes down right in a great fight. I’d be happier with them allowing you to download the show after it has been aired for a cheaper price!

by ToeLock on Feb 22, 2008 5:24 AM EST reply actions

Plus… (And maybe this will stop some of you guys from the US from bitching about shows in the UK) A live show in the States is about 3-6am in the UK because of time difference, that sucks!! Watching it in the afternoon is no way as harsh as that…and if its not aired live here (i.e its shown on Bravo) we don’t get it until Sunday Evening which is even worse because i cant come here and join in the debates cos I’ll spoil the show for myself. And then im up until silly’o’clock Sunday night when i have work the next day..Test that for crappy :)

So personally as a fan from oversea’s the (non-existent) download option would be better.

by ToeLock on Feb 22, 2008 5:48 AM EST reply actions

the Randy Coutour press conference on elitexc was terrible.. i’m not paying 50 bucks for the chance of that happenning again. who is this for anyway? people who have computers that don’t have access to a tv or what?

by kama kaze on Feb 22, 2008 8:59 AM EST reply actions

in the UK im cool with watching it for free a day late, but when the ufc is in the uk, when i cant go, theres no where to watch the fights – they are never shown on TV (only UK cards, which is weird for saying im in the uk – sometimes not even on the net – this yahoo thing works out well in a way – as long as the card is top notch

by Insain on Feb 22, 2008 1:12 PM EST reply actions

Insain where do you watch it for free the next day?

by scott on Mar 1, 2008 6:22 PM EST reply actions

ill personally watch the live streaam for free, thats my favourite option, and not all that hard to find if u bother looking
