Check out this new article all about Cro Cop, Dreams,Fedor and M-1. The article was from a croation pulblication so here is the translation. It is a very interesting read that clears up a lot of this weeks events. Check it out:

Victories lead to Fedor

Mirko’s return to Japan was spectacularly announced in Tokyo yesterday. A press conference was held in Edmont hotel where a new MMA organisation was presented – Dreams. Mirko was the surprise guest. The organizers were announcing the appearance of a big name, but handn’t mentioned Mirko’s name. But, as the song Wild Boys started to play, excitement begun which culminated as Mirko entered the room. His manager, Ken Imai, told us about it over the phone:
“Press conferences in Japan are often held with fans present. For all of them, the appearance of Mirko was an emotional moment.”

Mirko’s trip to Japan was undercover due to business reasons. Imai says: “Just 3 hours before the press conference I received a letter from UFC’s president Dana White in which he confirmed that the UFC is ready to terminate Mirko’s contract, but under one condition – that he comes back when he’s ready.”

And Mirko himself says he wants to come back.
“I’ll continue to train in the cage, the one I have in my gym, because I’ll return to the UFC. I left because I couldn’t wait any longer. I asked for a fight earlier, as early as March 1st, but I was offered May, or even later. I asked for a rematch with Gonzaga in Zagreb, but he lost to Werdum so that fell through. And I’m in shape, I gained muscle mass, I’m 105 kg (231 lbs) and I want to fight.”

In order for that to happen, Mirko mustn’t lose for the duration of his new contract.
“Mirko is not allowed to lose. After 3 victories, all options will be opened.”

One of the wishes will most likely be a rematch with Fedor, but that has to be earned, beginning from March 15th. Mirko realizes that some people will come out who see it all just as his escape from the octagon.
“Last 2 years I’ve been in some kind of mental blockade. I was empty before fights, depressed, I hated myself.”
If he fights in the UFC again, Mirko would like it to happen England.
“I’m sorry to have disappointed my English fans who welcomed me like a king. That’s why I want to come out in front of them again. I can’t turn back time, but my time will come again.”

After the last year’s acquisition of Pride, the Americans rule the world of MMA. They never had Fedor, but they got the legendary Brasilian Minotaur. Fedor remains with M-1, but without an exclusive contract, which means he can fight in other organisations. Besides, M-1 and Dreams will cohost events. In that light, a rematch between Mirko and Fedor is a possibility, but not as one of Mirko’s first 3 fights. Besides Mirko, the stars in Dreams should be Serghei Kharitonov (who holds victories over Schilt and Werdum), Murk Hunt and also some of the current K-1 fighters like Jerome LeBanner and Ray Sefo. Dreams was founded as the successor of Pride, with the association of K-1. Events will be organized by ex-Prides producers, referees, and aired by the national TV station TBS.

According to the FightNetwork, the UFC has filed an injunction against current UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture. The injunction will prevent Couture from corning or even attending any IFL events. It is unclear whether the injunction will affect the Xtreme Couture gym’s involvement in the 2008 season of the IFL.

In its latest and most aggressive legal move against its reigning heavyweight champion, Zuffa LLC — the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship — filed a preliminary injunction against Randy Couture that seeks to prevent the 44-year-old from appearing at, or in promotion for, the International Fight League show on Friday, Feb. 29 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

not in a hurry to watch it, but at least it has an original storyline as opposed to that never back down movie with the typical guy gets beat up, then learns to fight to get girl from bad guy

This def looks much more proffesionally done than “never back down” I swear that movie looks like it could be worst ever.

His recent books include The Old Religion (1997), a novel about the lynching of Leo Frank; Five Cities of Refuge: Weekly Reflections on Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy (2004), a Torah commentary, with Rabbi Lawrence Kushner; The Wicked Son (2006), a study of Jewish self-hatred and antisemitism; and Bambi vs. Godzilla, an acerbic commentary on the movie business.

This is not Michael Bay or some douchebag….

That article really makes me interested in seeing what comes from the business relationship with m-1 and DREAM. I am assuming DREAM would get all of HERO"S fighters so combine that with m-1 and we could potentially see mma shows featuring:
Fedor
Cro Cop
Aleksander Emelienenko
Mark Hunt
Sergei Kharitonov
Jerome LeBanner
Arlovski (maybe)
Sakuraba
Royce Gracie
Rey Sefo

That is a list of fighter that could all end up on the same show. The 1st thing that sticks out is the impressive list of Heavyweight fighters. Who knows by next year we might even see Randy Couture fighting on an M-1/DREAMS card.

looks interesting. i’ll probably go see it, just because i like the actors. MMA has officially become mainstream, because they are making movies based on it. first this and Never Back Down. wonder what is next.

i did get a kick out of the line “you want to fight? fight on the undercard, it pays quarter of a mill”

is that is pesos? or is that guy supposed to be mark cuban :-P

OH""" and don’t forget legendary training techniques’’’!!! LOL… FUCKIN’ A’ BOB’…. it was kinda the samething with poker movies until they came out with Cincinnati Kid and then later in the 90’s with ROUNDERS…

We’ll just have to wait until they get the idea we want a FUCKIN more realistic Movie about MMA… that appeals to real MMA fans

Dude, chill out.. They had to have some type of gimmick. At least this seems like a semi-realistic look into the conflict between the morals/economic hardships of a true martial artists and the greed/corruptness of a promoter. Very interesting story and it looks like it has deep characters.

This movie will attract a lot more real movie fans than action junkies who are also MMA fans. You guys can go watch never “never back down”

COME ON!!!? I don’t know the first thing about movies and I could have come up with another concept better than this one. I guess it’s the beginning of many more to come that is focused on MMA in particular but what a waste of time this will be. I like Randy so therefore I’ll sit through the first 10 minutes after I rent the video. A month after it hits the theaters that is. COME ON!!!?

Good thing Randy’s in it or else we’d hear Rogan and Goldie blabbering about marbles for 3/4 of the next PPV.

if you want realistic then just stick to the ppviews … or a documentary or the discovery channel or sumin. this is a movie, its entertainment. yea its proly gonna be a lil corny, maybe a lil rediculous but sometimes reality is corny and rediculous…. i mean just look at tito.

Not something i’d go and watch, but it definitely looks MUCH better than that gay “never back down” nonsense the ufc is promoting.

Still, it amazes how much money studios will pump into movies that are obviously bad and unappealing, it’s almost as if they don’t care at burning their money.

As of right now, there are only 2 spots left for the upcoming Lightweight Grand prix in Japan. Here are the 1st 14 names:

1. JZ Calvancante
2. Shinya Aoki
3. Gilbert Melendez
4. Boku
5. Miyata
6. Joakim “Hellboy” Hansen
7. Dida
8. Caol Uno
9. Luiz Azuerdo
10. Luiz “firminho” Buscape
11. Ishida
12. Tatsuya Kawajiri
13. Kyung
14. Oumakhanov

So far the big name thats missing is Takanori Gomi. As of now he is scheduled to fight Duane “Bang” Ludwig at the Sengeku event. Hopefully they can get him out of that fight and into the tournament or Have Ludwig vs. Gomi as one of the tournament matches.
