UFC Quick Quote: Win or lose, it's all about respect
I used to have a lot of respect for [Machida] until he said that so I want to get back in there and fight him again. It kind of pissed me off, but this is the sport and you know you've got to respect people. You can't just come up and disrespect people. You can go home with a win or a loss but you at least have to respect people. That's not right. I used to have a lot of respect for the him and now I'm just not cool with the guy.
-- "The African Assassin" Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou tells Jarry Park that he's doesn't appreciate the post-fight comments from Lyoto Machida (who referred to himself as the "Assassin Killer") following his submission loss to the Brazilian enigma at UFC 79 back in December. Imagine how upset he'd be had he lost to someone like Tito Ortiz instead.

Oh please. The only reason he said that is because he also defeated Sam Hoger, who is known as “The Alaskan Assassin”. So since Machida beat multiple fighters with Assassin in their nickname, I see nothing wrong with his comments. After defeating Ed Herman and then Cris Leben, Jason MacDonald became known as the “TUF Killer”. I don’t remember Leben crying about it either. JMac also went on to beat Rory Singer, another TUF Alumn, after getting beat up by Rich Franklin.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch between JMac and Leben or Herman. I see all 3 of those fighters on the same tier of the division, and avenging the previous loss can mean alot to Leben or Herman, and can propell them into #1 contender fight status in the near future.

get over it soko! instead of getting your feeling hurt why don’t you worry about winning. lol!

Wow Sokoudjo, did Machida really hurt your feelings? I find it pathetic that these guys FIGHT professionally for a living and get all torn up about a little comment after he got completely dismantled. Wouldn’t he be more upset about losing the fight? Sokoudjo showing his true colors, he’s a big baby.

I think he has a big future ahead of him. He isonly 23 years old. I think the UFC should try to build him up a bit.

He is with Team Quest, who has fantastic fighters up in that camp. That will only help him.
Since Stephan Bonnar went down with that knee injury Soko needs to hop in the octagon with Matt Hamill on free TV, get him a lot of exposure once again.

I agree with Sokoudjou. I lost every once of respect I had for Machida. I can’t wait for some big names to stomp all over him.

A big baby? lol you’re funny. I’ve never seen him cry. All I see is a fighter who found new motivation to be better prepared abring it harder for the next fight. And from what I saw from Machida, he’s a fighter with no respect for other fighters. No class what-so-ever.

I don’t know what soko is smoking, but machida did not say he is the assassin killer. His words exactly were: “I already beat the Alaskan Assassin and the African Assassin, what other assassins are there for me to beat before I get a title shot?”

Mr. NC-17: thats an excellent idea. I actually suggested that match up on the Stephan Bonner thread, but some one else came up with a great replacement for Bonner as well…Boestch! BUt I think April is way to soon for Boetsh to fight again. I think it would be a smart move to get him fightin on SPIKE for Free against a well know TUF fighter like Hamill, who IMO Soko can easily defeat. Him being from Team Quest, there is no way I see a 1-dimensional fighter like Hamil defeating Soko. This fight would be a really smart move by the UFC to build him up. Regardless of what happened with Machida, make no mistake about it he will be a star. Hopefull Joe Silva, makes this happen!

some of you are really really sensitive. If that is the comment Machida made, there’s not reason to “lose every ounce” of respect for him. relax.

Wow. That was some of the most watered down, polite trash talking Ive ever heard.
Who’s up for checking out Soko’s post fight comments when he mauled Arona and Lil’ Nog?
Seriously Sok…take a chill pill.

You said it yourself, this guy FIGHTS, unlike you probably do. Therefore, how could you possibly call him a baby and question his heart. Sokoudgo gets in a cage and fights, i find no way that you can disrespect him or any other fighter in that case. For anyone to go on the internet and talk bad about a professional fighter really shows their true colors. Everyone needs to give professional fighters the props they deserve, whether they win, lose, or are upset about something.
by jk47 on Feb 12, 2008 11:42 AM EST reply actions
You’d think a guy who fights for a living would understand that pre and post fight trash talking is all a part of the game, most guys don’t let it get to their heads even when it is 10x worse than whatever Machida said. Machida didn’t even say anything disrespectful IMO.
I think it shows NO class and a lack of respect on Sokoudjo’s behalf to lose a fight to the better man and then go on about how Machida was disrespectful after the fight, give me a break.
Just cause I’m not a fighter doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion. You guys need to loosen your grip on Soko’s nuts. The guy is definitely acting like a big baby about the situation. Also, where does he get off saying he wants a rematch?. That’s not going to happen, nobody who is 4-2 overall with a 0-1 record in the UFC is going to get a rematch for a fight he was completely outclassed in.
Am I the only one thats losing respect for Soko for trying to make something out of nothing? Look at the big picture here.

He’s going to have to get some thicker skin to fight in the States. This isn’t PC Japan…..people will say a lot worse things than that.

If Boetsch got ready for Heath in 2 weeks…he can be ready for Hamill in 7 weeks…it’s not like he took any significant damage. I think the Soko/Hamill matchup would be a great one as well. Like others have said…Soko is only 23 and he’s already a beast…he’s going to be around for a long time so there’s plenty of time for him to be built up and give him some time to work on his ground game. I think he’ll be a serious contender one day but he has some obvious holes in his game.

Good, you two can cry about spilled milk together. Machida should take back his comments and clarify that he is the “Light-Heavyweight Killer.”

Oh no!!! Machida said asked if there were any more assassins to take out, and that Soko should’ve learned karate while doing the jungle training he always talks about!! WOW!!! What a diss!! Soko is a joke.
After Hendo knocked out Silva he said “who wants to join Wanderlei in the hospital for the afterparty” and Soko was laughing. He said Hendo wouldn’t even have to train to beat Shogun, he could just show up fat and out of shape and destroy him. He said Fedor is nothing but a cheater (talking about the Lindland fight) and how he grabbed the rope was a “disgrace” and that “he’d like to fight Fedor.”
- off Soko. You’re pathetic. After your two wins you ran your mouth more then anybody, blasting Shogun, Fedor etc. for no reason what so ever. Machida OWNED you, forget fighting him again, he would destroy you even quicker next time.

simply remarking that you’ve beaten a couple of guys who are nicknamed “-- Assassin” is no crime. He didn’t directly insult the guy. I like the comparison to Jason Macdonald…
Perhaps these assassins should consider new nicknames.

What did Machida say???
when Rogan asked him if and when he was ready for a title shot he simply said, “I am ready now, I have beaten the alaskan assasin, and now the african assasin, what other assaain is there?” (interpreted) strait up he never said I am the assasin killer or anything else, quit tripping Soko and grow up

I am not saying that Machida wouldnt beat Soko again, but I do feel the Octagon Jitters got the best of SOKO. He was light years better then what he showed against Machida. Not to mention Machida is one of the trickiest fighters in the world to match up with. Soko has yet to even show half of his true potential.
Let him start off by beating Bonner on SPIKE for free. Bonner is a TUF reality star and it would be a good stepping stone for SOKO.

Machida was retalliating at sok because of the sh__ he talked about his fathers dojo in brazil. After the fight and Machida finally got the spotlight with Rogan, Machida’s interpreter said something like (while looking at sok) “He was talking about training kung fu in the jungle… He should go back and practice Karate in the Jungle!” reffering to sok
Machida’s father is the head of the JKA (Japan Karate Associatin) in the amazon of brazil and by those words it’s obvious Sokoudjou was talking sh__ probably cracking jokes about Machida training in the jungle, and Machida shut him up after he kicked his A__!
