UFC Quick Quote: Mirko Cro Cop promises statement 'as soon as possible'

"I promised to share some news with you today and I feel bad by not doing so. There are some reasons for this that I can't speak of at the moment. However, I promise to make the statement as soon as possible. Thank you for supporting me and I hope that little more patience is not too much to ask."
-- Mirko Cro Cop issues a statement on his personal blog -- he had indicated previously that today would be the day that the Croatian would reveal his future plans. Looks as if we'll have to wait a little while longer ... perhaps something is in the works. Last week, UFC President Dana White issued a deadline for the 2006 Pride FC Open Weight Grand Prix Champion to make a decision regarding his future. Cro Cop, on the other hand, seemed caught off guard by the brinkmanship. There's clearly some miscommunication. Hopefully, it's all cleared up when Cro Cop is able to speak more on the subject. It's hard to be patient, Mirko. Chop-chop.

That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. Lesnar would fly through Cro Cop… I wanted to see Lesnar become a joke in the UFC, but after watching him against Mir it’s obvious that Lesnar has some overwhelming potential. Now he just needs to sharpen his BJJ.

I know that it is no point in speculating. But are there any other unannounced events that forces his statement to wait. (like the lineup for something (“or other known unknown”)). Else judging by this it seems like he is rearranging his contract with the ufc and not just continuing on to the next fight. Else he could have spoken freely about his plans if it did not involve serious contract matters with the ufc.
I’m also surprised that the real reasons have not leaked out yet as far as I know, I my mind that also hints that it is something negative that he has kept for himself.

I will make it real clear and simple for all of you!
If Cro Cop is on his way out of the UFC, then he faces Lesner who would take him down within the 1st 3 seconds of the fight, and pound on him till the ref pulls him off of him.
If Cro Cop is here to stay and is serious about getting his career on track then he has to fight Brandon Verra. They are 2 of the most undersized Heavyweights out there and there styles would clash to make a really exciting fight. Beating Brandon Verra would mean something and is a positive step in climbing the heavyweight ladder.
If the UFC wants him to fight a can, and build his confidence back up, then they will throw him in there against Hardonk, in what would be a glorified KickBoxing match. However, I dont that the UFC would waste him in a match against a c-level opponent like Hardonk. Even though cro cop has clearly been a bust thus far, he is contracted to fight at $250,000 so I cant see the UFC paying that kind of money for him to fight Hardonk.
If he is on his way out, I guarentee he fights Lesner. If they are gonna pay cro cop that much, they will put him in a BIG PUBLICITY fight against Lesner.
Lets hope we see Cro Cop vs. Verra!

fly through cro cop he could not last more than 90 seconds with mir who is so so at best, lesnars ground game was nothing a take down crazy swings not up to mma standards.cro cop has fought the best ground fighters ever nog and fedor he has beaten great mma wrestlers like barnett and who knows if lesnar can even take a punch yet and i know he can’t take one of cro cops.you probally thought houston alexander was the next l.h.w. champ to.wait till lesnar actually wins a fight against some one decent than talk to me.

I agree the cro cop vs vera fight makes the most sense and could easily be the main event of a future card but if its a co-main event like I think it will be, even better.

I was so excited after hearing that Mirko was coming to the UFC but for whatever reasons he has not been able to establish himself at all other than the Sanchez fight. The Gonzaga fight was a true loss and the Kongo fight makes me sick to watch.
If he comes back I want him fully commited and thus the Brandon Vera fight would be ideal, if J.S. dosen’t feel good about Mirko’s head I would put him against Tim Sylvia and see what he’s made of. We all know that fight wouldn’t be going to the ground and it would test both fighters will.
God I hope he has regained his composure!

Id like to see the Lesner fight. If CroCop isnt going to be back at the top of his game (or retires after 1 more fight) the UFC might as well use his star power to build Lesner.

if he leaves i will be mad because months ago he said that he will be fighing for a while like atleast 5 or 6 fights then this crap happens. Dana said also around december that crocop will be back and is training hard again. SO what the hell is going on here? Again this better not be a retirement. God i hope not. As a fan i hate being jerked around like this.
Cmom CC lets go and get a fight going.

I have a bad feeling in my gut about this one. Hope I’m wrong. I think he could be parting ways with the UFC. He’s going to do whatever is best for him and he’s dead right. In retrospect maybe he should have called it a day after the 2006 Pride openweight grand prix. Hindsight is always 20/20 huh.
Please let me be wrong on this one.

If Cro Cop fights with great vengeance and furious anger and actually cuts his opponent off instead of just walking into their attack in the manner of the Kongo fight, he will destroy all. I’ve never doubted Mirko, and I never will. All these people saying he’s done or whatever are probably the same people who got on Gonzaga’s bandwagon after watching one fight, saying he would crush Couture and even Fedor, and got right off after he lost. I have no respect for that type of fan.

What? One of the most exciting and dynamic fighters EVER has a two fight skid (first ever in his career) and you want him gone? How bout “I hope this guy gets back on track an energizes a heavyweight division that is all over the place.” Here’s your other option: CC fades away and Nog is left to fight who?? Randy? No. He obviously doesnt’ want any because that is a nightmare matchup for him: a big strong BJJ master that absorb anything he can dish out and then tap him out—which would require a rematch that he would/could lose and take a total of two fights out of his aging body before he gets his ass handed to him by Fedor. Nog v Fedor? Woops. Wouldn’t it be great to see CC get back to throwing those hands again to set up those vicous kicks and make things interesting??

I’m sorry but I haven’t really seen anything from Lesner. He pounded out a guy who was looking to take all the punishment in the world just to grab a small vulnerable joint. Even big guys have those. Mir did exactly what he needed to. Wait till someone is going to stand with him and rock him with something other then a steel chair. Let’s see CroCop/Lesner and let MMA do it’s thing. The best man will win and move up.

I’ve always thought CC should cut to 205 in the UFC. I think Chuck could take him. It would be a great fight though! Chuck made a big mistake by under estimating Kieth, and paid for it. He took WS seriously, and look what happened. Wait till after the Rua fight to call him a has been. You might change your mind. I read a rumor somewher that Cro Cop might be returning to K-1 to fight in Japan? I am not sure that I believe this either. He is signed as a UFC fighter, and knowing Dana I doubt he would let him out of his contract. Then again, Cro Cop is making the big bucks in the UFC and he hasnt really been worth what he is making. Maybe Dana does want to eliminate his contract and wash his hands of him.
I really dont care what happens with cro cops future, however I really would like to see him face off against Verra before he moves on. That would be a really good, exciting and even match up. Please add this fight to UFC 85

I think its stupid that mmanews.com listed gonzaga in the top 10 heavyweights above cro cop! sure he may have knocked CC out but the CC he was fighting was out of shape and out of focus and then look at what happened after that fight. Gonzaga got owned by Randy and then lost again to Werdum.
CC probably is on the way out. after all the talk about wanting to come back and prove nay sayers wrong he probably just gave up and couldn’t be bothered. I for one would like to forget about his rubbish ufc run and think about his pride glory days. afterall everyone knows he should have retired after hitting the apex of his career at the 2006 grand prix.

Cro Cop will KO Lesnar. If that’s the announcement good for Cro Cop. Lesnar looked good against Mir but lost, he outstruck Mir. If you think he will out strike Cro Cop then you have no clue about what Mirko Filipovic can do. Lesnar might have a chance if he can take him down. That’s if Cro Cop doesn’t hit him first. Cro Cop by KO early, one punch will stun Lesnar then a brutal KO will be then end of the fight.
