Congratulations to Matt Hughes on his grand opening!

Robbie Lawler looks happy … not :)
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he was stripped of his EliteXC title for inactivity.

Matt Hughes gym, training style, and fighting style is behind the times maybe he should consulted with good camps like Greg Jackson’s or Randy Couture’s.

Stripped of his ICON Sport title, not his EliteXC title.

Kinda surprised there’s no cage setup. Figure that would be a must-have for any gym trying to train for the UFC.

If you paid me $100 a month I would not train there. The guy is a jerk.

Jerk or no jerk, PAY ME!!! I have no problem accepting money from ‘a jerk’ as u put it. Hey, I’m not a Hughes fan… I read the book and I hate him more…but the jerk knows how to make a good fighter into a much better fighter. Tommy Speers iis a good example; its just too bad Tommy thought he could train(half-assed) like Matt does and thought he’d be okay. I hope Tommy takes his next fight more seriously.

Wow!! I am in the video! If you pause it near the begining just as the camera is moving away from the heavy bags and turning towards the boxing ring, I am standing there in a gray jacket near the metal post. LMFAO!!

after that first fight with GSP calling it the “get h.i.t. squad” would be more appropriate.

yeah after watching the ultimate fighter with matt serra…I would not train there
by matthew on Feb 10, 2008 9:39 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Why not train there to get some basics and discipline? Then move on to other camps? I’d move once a year maybe until I got to Xtreme Couture. I’d want to visit Team Punishment, train with BJ Penn, and Team Jackson, AKA, American Top Team, Brazilian Top Team, and Bas Rutten. There are a whole mess of camps and fighters I can’t remember right now.

p.s.
Yeah, I’d train with Serra and GSP too!

He is the first fighter from Korea to be signed to the UFC. He is an up and comer, but people are saying he reminds them of shogun in his early days. May not be BIG news, but I think it’s pretty cool there starting to look at fighters from Korea.
If you could post an article, that would be awesome man, you run a great site, keep up the great work.
Thanks.

Good read AKA123, but he’ll need more than a month after he arrives in the USA to prepare for his first fight, don’t you think? Unless get gets a “gimme” his first time out!

Why would anyone want to train at a guy’s gym that couldn’t even beat a canadian? Matt Hughes is on his way out of relevancy…kind of like Liddell!

Couldn’t even beat a Canadian? GSP is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. Before you know it, the Canadians and Brazilians will have taken all the American titles.
bye bye Hughes, franklin and Sylvia. the dream is over!

Which Canadian is going to win the HW or LHW title again? I really don’t think any Canuck can beat Rampage or Big Nog…if you know of one..I would certainly like to hear it…

I was also talking about the brazilians and I’m sure they will have the LHW title before the year is out. Well, thats if Rampage ever decides to defend his belt.
I guess it makes sense for a champion only to fight once or twice a year.

Where have you been? Of coarse the Brazilians will take over. The art began there long ago. They are not taking over. They have had it. now the americans are taking over. I do agree, St. Pierre of F-ing on top right now…and he’s fine as hell. Sorry fellas.

So why didn’t you say Brazilians are taking over alone? Why throw Canadians in there? Who besides GSP is ever going to reasonably hold a title? Hardly a take-over when you have one successful fighter out of like 20!

It was a little funny, but the repetition killed it. And if you are going to attempt to mouth off in such a manner, at least get your stereotypes right.

Like him or not, Hughes is an awesome coach for those that are going to actually let him teach them something. He also is still the 2nd best 170 pounder in the UFC and deserves to be respected. After GSP destroys Serra, and if Serra does’nt have another masturbating accident, perhaps we will get to watch Hughes smash Serra’s little head in. Besides if you are comparing them as coaches I would not want to have to hear Serra’s whiny little voice Screaming “Cummon Bro!” at me a million times from across the cage. Talk about disrupting your concentration.

Truth of the matter is: All of them – Hughes, Serra and GSP can all be douche bags. Dontcha think it kinda comes with the territory?
But if it makes your inner child feel better to hide behind a computer and talk about a guy who could beat the crap out of you on any given day, go right ahead.
Douche bag or not, I’m moving to St. Louis soon and to train with a legend for $100 a month seems like a sweet deal.

Douche bag or not they are original UFC. They do it like it suppose to be done. They are why I started watching UFC. Heart, skill, and in the end appreciation. don’t hate. I bet u like Brock Lesner

I am proud to have Hughes training fighters here. G.C. has a lot of people with heart who just need an opportunity and some direction. I dare any of you tough talkers to come down here and try to hang. He might come off as errogant, but thats part of the game player. He may just be a better coach than you think. It’s all about having your mind right.
