Shogun’s advantage over Chuck
Shogun on the Wandy/Chuck fight: “I talked to him about that fight, and we have the same opinion: He trained a lot, but he didn’t have much sparring. I think this fact warmed him a lot”

Hopefully this means we will see Shogun in shape, and prepared to fight Chuck.
Being so close to Wandy, and talking (possibly training) with him so close after his fight with Chuck is a HUGE advantage for Shogun.

Message to his fans: “I want to say to my fans to be calm, keep believing and supporting me. I live for the fight. I’m 100 percent focused on fighting. I wouldn’t leave Chute Boxe without having a structure like I have. So I want my fans to keep supporting me, sending me good thoughts. Because for sure my greatest motivation to fight is my fans, to pay them back all the affection they give me.”

This fight should bring out the old Shogun, and make alll of us very, very happy again.
Thoughts?

Alan Belcher confirms his UFC 83 Bout against Patrick Cote!
Not a bad fight at all. This should be a hell of a scarp. Belcher vs. Kalib Starnes was awesome and Cote is a level ahead of starns so it should be really exciting. Cote is HOT striker right now and I always enjoy Belcher’s Muy Tai, can you say FIREWORKS!!!!!

What a typical Long Island douchebag Serra literally calls the host a prick and “thanks for cutting me off” “do your thing bro”

Makes me sick, I am by no means a GSP fan but I hope he puts Serra in to retirement … Well Hughes busting his ass would be nice also :-)

Is it just me though or did serra talk to much. I probably would have cut him off too to leave an opening to the much more polite and less vocal gsp. But like gsp said, unlike serra he will do his talking in the ring. Maybe serra should do that too. I do like when the reporter asked serra about his totally bigoted french comments [somehow confusing a paris french stereo type with a french canadian one the ignoramous]. "Well serra is from new york. I like how he didn’t have to say anything else that pretty much covered it. What serra doesn’t even realize is that montreal has a huge huge huge italian and wrestling citizenship. [huge]. They actually would have backed him if he wasn’t such a douche.

He does say what’s on his mind but usually it’s warranted, def not outrageous comments coming from his mouth, and half the time he’s joking around. Prejudice against New Yorkers I say!

Or what? Lol funny thing is, it’s easier to pick on an mma fighter in public [or even not in public] then a normal person. Do you really think mma fighters go around punching people in the jaw often outside the ring? Get your heads out of the clouds. No mma fighter worth their salt and especialy not a ufc fighter can or would ever use their fists outside the ring like that unless they wish to lose their right to fight in the ring. Any ufc fighter not cool enough to keep their head doesn’t deserve to fight in a professional sport. If I were the reporter I would have gotten under serra’s skin and unsettled him a heck of a lot more then this guy did. That reporter had no reason to fear serra and like he said he had no reason to ask or require serra’s permission to do his job conducting his interview. Serra was furniture.

I dont get it either. I am not from New York and I find most things that Serra says to be accurate. He’s ok in my book, and I am a big fan!

I think Hughes is much more of a prick then Serra. That farm-hick grew up mutilating and torturing animals (he is lucky Danzig didnt find out) and treating his parents like crap. Now he is a self righteous fool, who’s super passive-agressive nature mixed with his cocky, alpha male persona…rubs me the wrong way. I cant stand him, and I loved seeing that dumbfounded chipmunk look on his face after GSP embaressed him.

It matters because as you know anything can happen in MMA. Hendo/Silva still will need to defend their title. And they can’t keep fighting each other. Is the Champion sidelined for 8-10 months while the rest of the division is cleaned up?

Who ever emerges from the Hendo/Silva fight as the unified champion, will hold onto that title for as long as they want. Only middleweights in the world with a shot in hell at beating Silva and Henderson are not signed with the UFC.

I realy like GSP, I think he is well spoke and has alot of heart and is humble in defeat. On the other hand, I have been a fan of serra for a long time and would love for him to hold the title in a heavy division. Also, if Matt S looses, UFC will match up Hughes and Serra which would be a better grudge fight than Tito v. Dana W.

Serra just doesn’t seem to get it. Somehow it’s okay for him to call GSP “Frenchy”. I wonder what would happen if someone called him “Wop” or “Dumb Dago”? I don’t think he’d like it too much, somehow. If that’s what he has to resort to in order to express himself I really don’t care what he thinks. He’s a little man with a big chip on his shoulder. He’s talked a ton about other people and has won one fight in the last year. A big fight, but one fight. When he beats GSP again or another Top 5 welterweight maybe he’ll be worth listening to. Until then, people are going to view the first fight with GSP as an anomaly, whether Serra likes it or not. Landsberg is a prick but so is Serra. The dwarf will get what he deserves in April. And he’ll fade back into obscurity to fight and split decision the Lytles and Shone Carters of the world.

by captainahab2003 on Feb 7, 2008 5:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It’s obvious Serra has a chip on his shoulder or whatever the saying. When the UFC announced that St.Pierre was taking his place at UFC 79 he was pissed off that the fight wasn’t postponed until his injury was dealt with. From my point of view, I don’t understand what his problem is, he has received more TV time as an immediate UFC champ than anyone. I guess it’s only fair to us fans that we would be forced to endure another long lay off in title defenses like the Sherk incident. Matt even commented on how Sherk was given some grace time but Sean had surgery right after beating Florian and has not yet been scheduled to fight anybody.

I seen a big difference in Matt Serra since the time he was TUF4 and when i seen him on TUF6 and even on OTR, he’s acting really negative and it’s seems like he thinks that everyone is out to get him.

Really I doo like serra too and I feel that he has a mental advantage over gsp. That was the only time gsp has been soundly beaten. When he lost to hughes he was winning that fight and just froze and tapped out sooner than he should have, then he destryed hughes. When he lost to serra,it was on the feet where gsp was supposed to have his biggest advantage over serra. GSP can say whatever he wants to about why it happened but the bottom line is that it did happen and it could realistically happen again. If gsp can keep jumpiong these mentals hurdles and come into the fight really ready to fight and most of all not scared of serra I do think gsp will win. But again, I’m acared for him.

Gsp isn’t scared of Serra. He’s hell bent on destroying him. Gsp wasn’t confident in the first fight. Did you see him before the fight, he was super nervous? Everything that could have went wrong in his life did (some self caused ,some unavoidable). Those mistakes made him a much better fighter. The first fight GSP only trained for 2 weeks, this fight he’s only taken 2 weeks off, since the first fight. How many fighters train for a fight for one year straight? Gsp is serious about getting his belt back. This is what GSP has been saying, and he sounds pissed when he says it, “maybe this fight will be different, and people will know what I’m talking about”. Serra won’t be in his head because he knows Serra beat the worst version of him and now he’s better than ever. He’ll run through Serra just like he did Hughes.

good for serra for putting that canadaian in his place, ay.

it’s spelled Eh!

but as GSP says the octagon is where the statments will be made.

Clearly GSP now has the mental edge as he was way more focussed, while serra could not stop rambling

GSP is not scared, not going to take Serra lightly either. he’s going to win and as usual throw in some surprises. he’s a chess player, and a warrior
