Magic Act: Randy Couture vs Leon Mandrake in 2009

Lest anyone thought a match between Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko would be magical, may I present the newest opponent for the current/former UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy "The Natural" Couture:

Mandrake the Magician.

According to TheBadandUgly.com, Couture was talking up his latest acting gig during a guest appearance on Ohio radio station 96.3 QFM. Here's a snip:

The station had Randy Couture from UFC on and were talking to him about general UFC items when he said he was traveling to China in the next few weeks to start filming the movie Mandrake. He said he had quite a few scenes in the movie and that it was being billed as a cross between James Bond and Harry Houdini. He was pretty pumped about it.

The film stars Jonathan Rys Meyers in the title role as the 1934 comic strip character who relied on hypnosis and illusions to combat crime. The extent of Couture's role is not yet known but credit for Couture for pursuing his acting career with such vigor.

"The Natural" can also be seen in the upcoming movies Redbelt by David Mamet and The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian by Stephen Sommers.

I love how when randy stops fighting to pursue acting it’s awesome and totally acceptable. But when Tito does it he is considered to be ducking fights because he is somehow a bitch and a person who is only business like.

Sorry I was venting…I just want to make the point!

If you are what you say you are
A superstar
Then have no fear
The camera’s here
and the microphones and they wanna know
Oh oh oh yeah…

Maybe Randy could trade names with Hendo…Randy “Hollywood” Coture. I personally feel he should have stopped acting after the hystericalness which came from the King of Queens-UFC episode. To bad he could not put forth the effort of finishing his contract for his fans of th eUFC rather then being all Hollywood.

Hey Mania’

There is a good article on ufc.com about Matt Hughes.
He talks about his book signing tour and how he is not retiering. He also said he has asked the UFC to fight Matt Serra after(if) GSP beats him..

This is great news. We can still see Serra/Hughes..
I hope my boy GSP takes that belt back so all the Serra/Hughes hype can be resolved with the fight that was supossed to happen..

Until Randy is able to fight again, this will be the last time I talk about him. Honestly Randy has an inflated head after his Gonzaga and Tim fights. Tim is a bumb and Gonzaga was an unproven 1 hit wonder, who wont be ready to take the next step until he takes his cardio serious and gets in a camp with top HW to train against. Randy is a great fighter, but I dont think he has had as good of a Heavyweight career as he does. He got crushed by Barnett. He hasn’t fought Noguerra. He hasn’t Fought Arlovski. His UFC record, isn’t one of the elite records in the world, but I will cut him slack on that since he only fought against he best.

I think Randy should have fought Nopguerra, if he beat Noguerra then he could have tried to chase Fedor off into the sunset. I am not so sure Randy would have beaten Noguerra. Noguerra is a better striker and much better on the ground IMO. It would have been a great fighth.

Look at it this way, we should be 10 days away from watching UFC 81: Couture vs. Noguerra, but instead we get to watch Big Tim…..yay!!

Couture is tossing out any sort of legacy he might have had.

For whatever reason, Randy Couture decided against towing the company line, and walked away. He had to figure out that things weren’t as rosy as people would think a LONG time ago. “The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian” started filming on October 1st, 2007. this means that the script more than likely had to be done well before then, and by June 14th, 2007, all that was known was that the director was announced. If actors were attached to this movie, that info sure as shit wasn’t released to the press.

I know “Big Stan” is gonna be precious little more than a guilty pleasure (and that’s being generous), but what I can dig up on that flick is that Rob Schneider collapsed from heat exhaustion and food poisoning on June 29th, 2006. This was well after he lost to Chuck Liddell in UFC 57, but well before he won the Heavyweight title at UFC 68.

The point of this is that movies take a lot longer to come out than most people think. Some are mired in “Development Hell” and end up not resembling the original scripts (e.g. “Alien 3”, “Indiana Jones IV”). Randy knew shit was going to hit the fan a while ago, and the wisest thing to do would be to plan for life after the UFC. I hope for his sake that he never rests on his laurels.
