I hope and wish Mir wipes the floor with Lesnar. I hope to see Frank back in fine form and 100%. I have nothing against Brock, I just don’t like him. :)

This fight is one of the most unpredictable fights in UFC history. If Lesnar pounds him out I wouldn’t be shocked, and if Mir submits him I wouldn’t be shocked…UFC has gotta be praying that Lesnar is the real deal, otherwise he could be looked at as a horrible investment or a Cro Cop as I call it.

I can’t watch it since I’m at work. However, I do agree that this fight is really unpredictable. To me, betting on Mir seems like easy money since he’s the underdog. But, I dunno.. the way the UFC is pushing Lesnar and putting him against someone like Mir right away, it makes me think that maybe they know something we don’t know. Maybe Lesnar is better than a lot of people think he will be.

i hope everyone watches Frank Mir destroy that fake wrestling punk!!!!!! he was good in wrestling because he didnt get hit!!!!! i think mir is going to ruff him up a little bit to where Lesner wont want to stand with him anymore, Lesner will take Mir down and then Mir will submit him via triangle or armbar! watch and see!!!!

It would be nice if frank destroyed lesnar and makes a statement, that would be cool but I’m not too sure it will happen.

I think Lesnar takes the cake. I like Mir and would never underestimate his BJJ or talant. However, he is fighting a freak of nature. Lesnars strength alone will be enough defence to Mir’s BJJ. Just my opinion. I see this fight going either way but leaning towards the more aggressive, stronger fighter. Lesnar.

Brock is Wrestling’s Sacrificial lamb to the UFC.
Skill always beats Strength and wrestling alone isn’t going to win this fight for Brock.
Im looking forward to seeing Frank Mir put on another mixed martial art clinic.

I think it’s funny how so many people simply write off Brock because he made a decision to enter into pro-wrestling. Would you make the same assumption that Brock will get destroyed if he came from any other type of profession? Do you really think that pro wrestlers are completely talentless and non athletic?

I mean, let’s see some of you do what pro-wrestlers do..being on the road 300 or more days a year, training, performing nightly and so on….No, pro-wrestlers do not have actual fights with each other nightly, they are totally scripted..but the amount of physical work that goes into what they do almost every night, taking bumps, stiff shots, missed landings etc easily adds up to the physical damage a MMA fighter will recieve in two fights a year.

Brock is still young and motivated. He left pro-wrestling very early and still has all the potential of becoming a huge star in MMA. His wrestling background speaks for itself and with the way he’s been training for MMA, I don’t doubt for a minute that he will give Mir a run for the money.

I can’t say one way or another if he’s going to defeat Mir, but I do feel as though he will make the fight last and will not go down as quickly and easily as alot of people seem to think he will.

Brock Lesnar has the potential to be the heavyweight Matt Hughes. Matt’s not the greatest BJJ guy, but he drilled the basics and got away with it until he ran into BJ the first time, and GSP the 3rd time.

I’m pretty sure Brock’s been told to hype up the match. If there’s one thing from pro wrestling that Brock Lesnar can carry over to MMA, it’s how to sell a match. Think about it, these two guys are not even top 5 guys, and Mir is top 10 only beca

Think about it, these two guys are not even top 5 guys, and Mir is top 10 only because of what he’s done in the distant past, and of the lack of depth in the UFC HW division. But why is it the main event? Because Brock can attract a crowd, that’s why.

Pete, you might want to stick to WWE …

You’re the one that’s hung up on the WWE…not me. Read below and then make some more idiotic statements.

Lesnar wrestled at Webster High School in Webster, South Dakota wherehe managed to have a 33-0 record in his senior year.

Lesnar later attended the University of Minnesota on a full wrestling scholarship for his junior and senior years of college;

Lesnar won the 2000 NCAA wrestling championship as a heavyweight after placing second in 1999.

Lesnar also wrestled at Bismarck State College in Bismarck, NorthDakota.

Lesnar finished his amateur career as a:
Two-time NJCAA All-American
Two-time NCAA All-American
Two-time Big Ten Champion
AND the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion with a record of 106-5 overall in four years of college.

This guy never belonged in the WWE – he is where he should have been back in 2000. Bad timing for him, but he is still relatively young.

I take it you want Lesnar to win then. Im not rooting for anyone in this though id like to see a full on fight – and id like to see Mir climb the ladder to fight sylvia again. The main reason behind why i think Mir will take this is these BIG factors – 1/ The Imfamous Octagon jitters. 2/ The size lesnar is – i bet hes never been properly started on by a big dood and been smacked in the face full blast, through out his life probably. Mir is going to smack his face – it will fuk with lesnars mind. and 3/ A wrestlers worst opponent is a JJ speacialist – n damn Mir knows his shit.

You cant help but think mir will be just a little intimidated during the stare down before the fight.

I cant wait for mir to put lesner to sleep with an arm triange in the first round, literally because I doubt big brock will tapp

But brock your right you shouldnt care because if you cant make it Fighting for real in the ufc you can always go back to the comfort and security of coreagraphed fighting in fake wwe pro wrestling

I see the fight going one of two ways:

1. Bell rings…Lesnar bull rushes Mir and rushes right into a submission move. Then proceeds to tap.

2. Bell rings…Lesnar bull rushes Mir and proves to be too much for Mir and ground and pounds him to the ground. Ref proceeds to stop the fight.

Either way I can’t see this fight going to more than one round. But like so many of you stated…could go either way.

Look at Josh Koscheck – He won 42 of his wrestling matches, and went on to become the NCAA Division I Champion in the 174 lb weight class. In the coming years, he would win many championships and receive many honors in his national collegiate wrestling career. In addition to being a four-time NCAA Division I All-American (placing 4th, 3rd, 1st, and 2nd respectively), Koscheck is a three-time recipient of the PSAC Wrestler of the Year award, and earned the Eastern Wrestling League Achievement Award twice.

Where is he at now? Didn’t “KOS” make a statement to GSP and say, “he cannot beat me at my own game”? Hmmmm, and then what happened? He was man handled by GSP at his own wrestling game! So what’s the difference? Just because Lesnar has a wrestling background and all these awards doesn’t mean crap!

There has been alot of talk about how good Mir used to be and that he is going to demolish Lesnar?? First off the sport has evolved ten fold since Mir was champ, thus prob being the reason for the Nevada State commission not commissioning a fight between Mir and Tim Silvia.
Secondly Mir has had to deal with a major accident and injuries, thus clearly affecting his physical condition and ability.
And finally Lesnar may not be a veteran in MMA but he is clearly a talented athlete, and a strong one, with a deep background in wrestling. Yes he may not have been punched in the face and had to deal with bjj, but whats to say he wont be able to??
He might well get submitted or even defeated by strikes, but i find it highly unlikely that it will be an easy ride for Mir if he is to win, as he has hardly set mma alight of recent!
Look forward to the fight though!!

Very good the Cro Cop can be used for what the wrestling community calls Jabronis. Lesnar may be the real deal we will have to wait and see. Mir was a one time great but his time may have passed. On the video when he’s talking about Couture I get the impression he’s scared. Anyway this whole card looks weak I think I’ll wait and see what the fans say after and order it later if it’s actually worth spending the 49.99 or however much it is.
The UFC still needs to consider cutting down the number of pay per views and making better quality fight cards. I mean come on a title shot with Tim Sylvia been there done that. Dana do what you need to and get Randy back at least until their is some fresh blood in the heavyweight division.

Mir was such a champion in the past because when he won the title no HW knew nothing about BJJ, so it was wasy to submit them, and he has never been a great fighter rather than that, I really like brock, because the HW division needs a big wrestler, someone that can finally pick up tim sylvia and dump him on his head.
tim has had all his success just because in Hw there are no 265 pounds wrestlers..

I’m still none the wiser as to who will win. Could Lesnar have been on steroids back in his college wrestling days? He must have been on them in his WWE days. I don’t see how you can keep a physique like that when you’re on the road 300 days a year and performing as regularly as they do without steroids. For sure he looks less ’roidish these days but could he still cycle them and come off in time to pass the test?

I’ve actually seen some mixed opinions on Lesnar. I think Tim Sylvia doesn’t rate him. He’s bound to say that though. Brad Imes didn’t think he was as strong as he had been hyped to be. However didn’t Pat Miletich speak very highly of him? I just don’t know.

As for Frank, well who knows. Looks to be in good shape at the moment though.

Lesnar is a big bull of a guy- to my thinking he is a heavyweight Houston Alexander. And we all saw an excellent jujitsu guy handle Alexander in his last fight. Lesnar will instictively take Mir down to GNP him but on the ground he’ll get submitted in any number of F-ed up ways. Mir had Tank Abbott in both a noma plata(sp?) and a heel hook. He’s arm barred guys- broke Sylvia’s arm on something- think I recall him triangle-ing someone. BUT… most of that is old Frank Mir. We’ll see.

Hey, i only recently got into UFC after watching Randy Couture VS Tim Sylvia, wat a match. So i heard about UFC 81 and this match with Lesnar and Mir. Its interesting because there are a lot of ppl taking about it, and most ppl arn’t sure whos gonna win. I personally want Brock to win because i think it will do more good than harm. Here’s why:
If Brock wins then UFC fanbase will get bigger as Brock is well known by the wrestling community and Mir is a tough competitor, so Brock winning will be a huge win for him.
Mir has a reputation if he loses its not as bad as lesnar losing, because i think if lesnar loses then all that hype from him will just be bullshit and end his career which will be bad because, having someone like Lesnar in the ufc hw division after he beats Mir (if he does) will mean that you have a huge power house who can go power VS power with anybody in the UFC and every body will know that he is the real deal because he beat Mir (Former UFC HW Champ). Which i think will be great for UFC and the HW division for having a true power house.
But i’m not saying Brock Lesnar will win, cos Mir’s submission skills on the mat are like unlimited, i’m just saying i’ll preffer it if Lesnar won. But i think it’ll be an interesting match due to the things at stake and the different fighters.

i hope everyone watches Frank Mir destroy that fake wrestling punk!!!!!! he was good in wrestling because he didnt get hit!!!!! i think mir is going to ruff him up a little bit to where Lesner wont want to stand with him anymore, Lesner will take Mir down and then Mir will submit him via triangle or armbar! watch and see!!!!

Don’t forget Lesnar is a 2 time NCAA heavy weight champion while wrestling for MN. He also won 2 championships while wrestling for a small college in ND. Wrestling wise he’s the real deal and was also reported to have beaten Kurt Angle in a wrestling match while at the WWE. Coarse I’m sure everyone knows Kurt is an Olympic Gold Medalist. If Lesnar can take a punch he’ll walk right through the division. He is freakishly strong so armbars and so forth are gonna be very hard to get on him. Guys will have the same problem trying to pull off some sort of triangle. His arms, back and neck are freakin huge!! You would need legs 5ft long just to pull it off..

You can say you heard it here first. Brock will destroy Mir! He will beat him to a bloody pulp and Mir will prolly quit at some point in the match.

by ONEPLAY on Jan 26, 2008 8:07 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I am usually a firm believer of technique over strength. So I am going to have to go with Mir on this one. As big as Lesnar is remember he has to make weight for this match. He is cutting close to 50# to go from 310# to 265#. Will Lesnar still be that strong and dominant at the weight? Even if he walks in at 280# it is still alot smaller then what he is used to fighting at. If Lesnar should lose it hurts a bit but he just lost to one of the better HW BJJ guys the states have to offer. IF he wins they are going to throw him in a title shot after another fight or 2 against Tim Sylvia with his amazing Sprawl and big bombs or Big Nog who is probably the best HW BJJ guy in the world and has a tried and true Chin. I know HE loked slow against herring but I think that was the cage jitters. Either way Mir is such a classy guy, a HW GSP in class, you like to see a guy like that with gold around his waist….

The fact Mir is already thinking about quitting fighting to be a shitty lawer should tell everyone how this fight is going to go down.
Lesner by TKO or decision

I hope Mir wins, simply because I’m thinking Lesnar is going to win.

Because he wants a normal life after Fighting he will loose? Interesting theory….

I like Mir but heard he only started training two weeks ago for this fight leaving him a total of three weeks to train and I don’t think he will be cardiovascularly fit to go very long in this fight so he better hope to submit or KO Lesnar, but I believe Lesnar will ground and pound him out.

It just seems Mir’s mentality is not in the spot it should be. Most people with 300lb NCAA wrestling champions wanting to kill them are not really thinking about going back to school for a law degree.

I think Mir will be ready. I think books are the last thing he’s been hitting lately. Going back to school is probably something he’s thought about for a while. I don’t he just thought of it because he was bored in training or something lol.

i find it funny to read so many negative reactions to Brock Lesnar and this fight being a co-main event and yet this fight is doing what its supposed to be, generating buzz. Every time this fight is mentioned here, the discussion section gets pretty heated. so win or lose, brock is making the ufc money with the attention he is bringing to the sport.

I think it will be a good fight. A good blend of styles makes this a hard one to predict for sure either way. I have been following the comments here for a while and have to laugh at all the “fake” comments about pro-wrestling. the truth is that it is one of the most physicaly demanding professions on the planet. Beyond the fact that a 300+ lb guy is lifting, throwing, slamming other 300+ lb guys on either the mat (which is similar to the UFC mat) or concrete floor. They are taking real bumps and yes sometimes they realy get seriously hurt and knocked out by errant punches, kicks, slams and maneuvers. The fact that they do these highly dangerous, moves that require precision and extreme athletic ability night after night is a marvel, a marvel at how accurate they are to not injur or kill more performers. Just consider the physical punishment, athleticism and then couple that with 15 to 30 minute features with no breaks! That is some serious cardio here people. Many professional athletes that have stepped into that “fake” ring say it was the hardest most physically challenging and demanding activity they ever participated in. Lesnar did real NCAA wrestling (wrestling is a martial art) and particiapated in one of the hardest professions on the planet and excelled. Lesnar did a maneuver wher he errantly landed square on his head from considerable heights bearing his weight and the weight of his opponent on his head and neck – he didn’t die, he didn’t become paralyzed, he didn’t even get knocked out… That is seriously brutish folks! To me, Lesnar has proven he can take the physical rigour and damage and remain at a high level of function and execution of highly technical and strength demanding maneuvers even well after a MMA 5 min round would be over for a break ( and let’s face it, the HW division isn’t all about non-stop action. Now take into consideration that Brock has taken this sport seriously and trained with top people for over two years. Given how quickly he learned the “fake” yet demanding technical moves

… continued… of pro wrestling it shows him to be a supremely gifted athlete. The guy ran a 4.75 40 yd dash weighing in at close to 300 lbs! Watch his fight with Kim, he passes the guard of a world Judo champion with absolute ease. I know you want skill and devotion to a particular craft to be superior to another. I’m not convinced that Mir is as great a BJJ practitioner as Lesnar is a wrestler and we all know who is stronger, quicker, bigger, has better cardio and is more explosive – Lesnar. That is a lot to overcome for Mir who has one great skill in his war chest and anyone as big as those guys has a punchers chance (very few good technical strikers in the UFC right now but that is quickly changing). I give the edge to Lesnar based on combat experience (since he was 5) and how well wrestlers have dominated UFC in the past. Mir fans – hope you can still enjoy the sport if he loses, just know he didn’t lose to a chump, the guy (Lesnar) has some skills and raw talent. Not even the greatest BJJ can submit a gorilla, just to powerful, now give the gorilla some skills, training, tattoos a shave and a thirst for blood and you have LESNAR! A UFC gold-mine. What I want to see next is an elite striker like a Klitchko learn the sprawl and some submission defense then we will see fireworks.

Why is everyone one talkin about size and strength like it is the be all end all!! Who saw the last UFC where the African Assassin got dusted by Machida(sp)…all of you fools talking about how the water weighted, super bloated, Kevin Randleman-esq Lesnar is going to walk all over Mir. Shame on you all…

Lesnar has a chance I agree but to use the size argument is BS…if anything it will be the wrestling that will over power Mir letting Lesnar in for a ground and pound like in his first fight, which was SUPER SUPER one-sided. Come on!! Who saw that fight! It was like watching a line backer hit a midget. Was that asian guy even a pro fighter cuz he looked scared shitless.

This is MMA, not NCAA wrestling or K-1…the gem in the crown is you can switch your attack/defense on the fly. I know Mir can do it but the question is, can Lesnar?

He was man handled by GSP at his own wrestling game! So what’s the difference? Just because Lesnar has a wrestling background and all these awards doesn’t mean crap!

This comparison doesn’t mean crap, either. Brock Lesnar is not Josh Koscheck, and is easily a lot stronger pound for pound than he ever was. I’m not a Lesnar fan, but everyone who brings Koscheck up as their defense is making a feeble argument.
