Mirko Cro Cop training, but for who? (Pics)

cro cop training

New pictures of UFC heavyweight fighter Mirko Cro Cop training have recently surfaced all over the Internet boards and blogs.

That normally wouldn't be too newsworthy if it wasn't for the fact the UFC President Dana White just announced over the weekend that the Croatian is "currently thinking about his future and is undecided about what his next move is."

It's a statement that contradicts recent comments from Cro Cop that he has five or six more fights left in the tank and was even interested in competing on the UFC 80: "Rapid Fire" card.

Something is not right. And with the heavyweight division all of a sudden void of numerous top contenders (again) now might be the time to make it right.

Sooner rather than later.

Is it right that anyone that size should be able to throw a balanced kick that high? Geez…

He must have trouble finding jeans that fit.

actually , remember he had that severe case of respiratory problems that the doctor found. he had surgery and began training again i think what happened to chuck also happened to crocop in a similar fashion he was knock out then in his comeback fight he gave a bad performance started of good but kinda laked focus torwards the end. crocop will be back and restablish himself as one of the best HW.

Cro Cop vs Arlovski would of been intresting.

by PhilQNY on Jan 23, 2008 3:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

very un-impressive so far. during the transaction of circuits, CroCop has seemed to not adapt to some the rules, the importance of using the fence, and the use of the elbow to name a few.

you gotta bring alot more than a bad hair cut and a left kick to win in this league.

Who knows, maybe teh CC of Pride will come back, and make so much noise it will make up for the loss of Couture.

With all the other ‘top’ heavys in the UFC all booked with fight now that O’Brien is fighting Arlovski, the only one left is Vera. Let Brandon heal from his injuries and filming his movie and fight Cro Cop at UFC 83 or later. About the right time to let Cro Cop get his head on straight and get some good training in.

cro cop is still a great h.w. and the ufc needs that right now,i think dana is trying to down play him so he can cut cro cop who gets paid good to save the ufc more money but blame another reason for his cut.

The old Cro Cop coming back would be huge for the UFC’s Heavyweight division.

That would patch up the division for at least a year.

I know that this is just wishful thinking, but I really wish that the UFC would Sign Aleksander Emeileinenko and Sergei Kharytonov….Those are 2 bad Russian dudes.

Does anyone know if M-1 signed either of them yet?

I believe Cro Crop has one more chance to come back to his old form and become a contender. A Big Nob and Cro Cop rematch would be great(if Nog can win Timmy). I really hope that he will be back to his old self and give some exciting fights.

I dont know how serious to take this news, but I will pass it along anyway. If this is true, I hope it doesn’t become a trend in MMA. Check it out:

Bobby Lashley is a former ECW champion and has main-evented their pay per views.

From Wikipedia:
Lashley attended Missouri Valley College, where he won three national amateur wrestling championships between 1996 and 1998, placing fourth in 1995. Throughout 1997 and 1998 he was the NAIA National Wrestling Champion, competing at the weight of 177 pounds (80 kilograms).3 Lashley later joined the United States Army, where he continued to wrestle.24

My thoughts:
He’s only 31 years old…who knows

dont listen to dana talking about cro cop. CC said a while back that he was gonna try to bulk up some and train more for the ufc style of fighting. he said it would be awhile before he came back and would be a better fight with new skills. ofcourse ive heard this is before from every fighter who has lost a couple fights in a row but we can always hope that crocop comes back better then ever.

CC vs AA (will never happen in the UFC if AA doesn’t extend his contract)
CC vs Timmy
CC vs Gonzaga 2

those are some fights i want to see but most likely never will. they should have him fight someone good so if he does win it makes him look better then beating up some can or getting beat by a can.

CC crushing Tim is something I have been dieing to see for a long time now. I would give anything to see CC give Tim one of his famous kicks to the dome.

It doesnt make sense you Have Cro cop talking about how he will be fighting early in 08, and you have dana saying what he said, I dont think hes trying to down play mirko so he can cut him he mirko is a mojor draw but this just doesnt make sense.

Please let CC come back as the killer that we all know he is. I think last fight if he didn’t bust his ribs he would have beat Kongo. He was giving it to him pretty good until he went into a defensive shell protecting his ribs. I want to see a rematch with Gonzaga. I just want to see a bloody head kick KO…Is that too much to ask????

Cro Cop vs Arlovski would of been intresting.

Brilliant. Great match – up because they are both great strikers and would enjoy a stand up war. Furthermore, I want to see that high kick applied to the side of AA dome piece.

with randy gone and fedor not fighting, the HW is crying out for a true champion that the fans can get behind

tim sylvia has acheived an incredible amount considering how little natural talent he has, his fights may be dull but he has carried the belt for a far longer than anyone would expect so he deserves some credit

NOG could possibly be the guy weve been waiting for
wasnt good against herring, but did take fedor to decisions iirc so must be a pretty good fighter

mir will never be a top fighter again, hes below the level he once was and also the sport has evolved in his absence

gonzaga isnt championship material
1 KO of crocop does not make you the man
and randy showed a lot of his weaknesses

vera was disappointing against sylvia and looked way too small for the guys who cut to make HW

AA isnt fighting sadly and it looks like his future lies outside of the ufc

crocop like brock lesnar could potentialy be the king of the HW and dominate for a long time… if only crocop could learn how to not be taken down hed be lethal
he needs to check his ego and go to a wrestling camp

only other potential ones are rampage tito chuck forrest or some other fairly big LHW stepping up

Obv. they are going to give him Hardonk.

by MMA_MIND on Jan 23, 2008 4:42 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I say give the guy another chance. Besides the knockout loss to Gonzaga he hasn’t looked all that bad. Supposedly he lost a decision to Kongo where one of his ribs was broken and he still managed to finish the fight. Put him in there with some mid level competition and see if the UFC is for him or not.

I WOULL LOVE TO SEE THAT FIGHT AND IF VERA GETS BEAT DOWN HE GOES DOWN TO 205…AND WINNER GETS KONGO FOR NUMBER 1 CONTENDER…CAUSE NO WAY WINNER OF MIR AND LESNAR IS NUMBER 1 CONTENDER

by phatmac on Jan 23, 2008 5:37 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

how can you say that Vera is a top contender. if ufc comes to its senses they SHOULD match up mirko with vera and you’ll see mirko send him to the fucking hospital. i hope vera does move down to light weight and get his ass handed to him by all the guys in that division. he’s just another flabby tim sylvia but a few inches shorter. i can’t believe they have werdum in line in front of kongo. i really hope all these fighters end up leaving in a few yrs. vera is a fucking joke.

I thought I read somewhere that Aleks E. signed with someone (HDNet, M-1, or someone). I also think I read that his supposed criminal record poses difficulties for him traveling to the US. I could be wrong, though.

HA! AA would mos def end cro cop’s ufc career and possibly his life.CC wouldn’ stand a chance AA is clearly a better striker with heavy hands, great ground skill, great defense, speed, agility and all around better fighter. Not saying cro cop isnt good, he is, but like someone mentioned earlier,CC needs to drop to light heavy weight, he is too small for heavyweight. did you see him against Kongo,he liked like a pre-teen kid. could you amagine what it would be like against Timmy.cro cop needs to cut 20lbs the right way and fight lhw.

I posted this before but i also feel it is fitting in this section as well.

so here is how i see it…

1. UFC does not sign Fedor

2. UFC won’t resign Arlovski

3. UFC won’t do a co-promotion with M-1 to bring the most in demand fight in history to us, the fans, and file a lawsuit against their own champ Randy Couture.

4. We now get a chance to see Sylvia become champ again.

5. Werdum, although a good fighter is the #1 contender.

my response to these points…

1. Not being able to sign Fedor was a huge mistake. Also the terms they offered him being made public was not very flattering to their business approach. We got to see how they do business and props to Fedor for saying no to a contract he didn’t like.

2. By not signing Arlovski they are making a huge mistake and are letting him pretty much go to M-1 for a really good fight with Fedor which will happen. Especially if Cuban gets on board. Will you buy that PPV? I will. And the UFC will get nothing from it. Good news for M-1 because this would be their first major event.

3. By not allowing Randy to fight Fedor in a cross-promotion, the UFC is losing major $$$!! This PPV would be Huge money, and it looks asthough when October rolls around and Randy’s contract is up, M-1 is gonna treat him very well financially. The UFC says that Randy owes them 2 more fights, but why then is there a time span until October? This will apparently be up to the judge to decide. Either way, this fight will happen.

4. Tim Sylvia as champ again possibly. This has all the excitement of watching paint dry attatched to it. Tim is the most boring and useless champ they have ever had. He complains to the ref to stand it up if he gets taken down, and holds the opponent against the cage when on the feet. Really exciting stuff Tim. The funny thing is that the UFC will resign him when his contract is up but not Arlovski.

5. I was impressed with Werdum on the weekend, yes, but #1 contender? Not a chance. IMO Arlovski, Kongo and Vera should all be ahead of him eventhough Vera lost to Sylvia.

Basically i feel that the UFC is doing business in a very dyslexic way in the HW division. Let Randy and Arlovski go, but Keep Sylvia. Sounds like a fair trade, right? Anyway, good luck to you wherever you may sign Andre. I loved watching you in the UFC and look forward to seeing you fight wherever you sign. And good luck Nogueira with the title shot. Train hard because if you have ever had to sit through a Sylvia fight you know that having him as champ is gonna be painful. Please to do us a favour by sparing us of that again.

the only thing i don’t like about this picture is that maybe Cro-cop should worry less about throwing highkicks, which he is obviously a master at, and maybe work the ground game a bit. learn how to throw elbows from the top and in the clinch, and focus on his submissions and submission defense.

like tim or not any one who trys to stand with tim is gonna be at a disadvantage, hes got like 5ft arms. and by the way AA would MAUL cro cop.everyone seen what Gab Gonzaga did to him and he nowhere near the striker AA is.

i hope mirko leaves, he should end his career in a ring not a cage. again werdum in line for a title shot….. unbelievable. i do believe kongo should be in line for that title. i really hope lesnar is a bust. i hope he gets his ass handed to him. i’d hate to see other wrestlers think they can come into mma and act their way to a victory. i’m guessing all you vera nut huggers can agree with me when i say werdum and vera should face each other for the 3rd best heavy weight out there. vera sucks….
