UFC Quick Quote: Jason Lambert on fight with Wilson Gouveia at UFC 80

"I think it is going to be a great fight. I think he is a really tough guy. He is a black belt, trains out of American Top Team which is a great school. I expect it to be a tough fight.... I'm not a big prediction guy but I just want to go out and get in his face and make it my fight."
-- Jason Lambert weighs-in via AdCombat.com on his upcoming fight this weekend against Wilson Gouveia at UFC 80: "Rapid Fire" from the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England. UFC President Dana White mentioned in a separate interview with the Canadian Press that the winner of the bout will be "in the mix" as a top contender in the 205-pound division going forward. This could be a sleeper.

I agree! Jason would punish Chuck! But thats not giving him much credit considering how over-rated Chuck is.

Lambert impressed me in his fight with Babalu. Lambert has only lost one fight in his last ten and that was to Rashad. I’ve never seen Gouveia fight, so I can’t comment on him. Gouveia does have a win against Jon Fitch, which is pretty good, even though he probably had a pretty big size advantage.
I agree with mania, this fight could be pretty good. Both of these guys are dangerous. They might not get title shots, but they both can definitely make some noise in the LHW division.

Lambert was very impressive in his stop of Babalu. There is no way he is a Top 10 light heavyweight though. Once he beats Gouveia and maybe a Thiago Silva or Houston Alexander or just string together a winning streak in the UFC above two wins in a row then he might break the Top 10. The division is just too loaded to say he’s a Top 10 fighter.

I am picking Wilson Gouveia to walk away victorious in this match. Jason Lambert is a ground and pound specialist. Wilson Gouveia is very well rounded and looks effortless in some of his wins. He simply dominated the larger Carmelo “My Dog” Marrero and didn’t even look like he was trying. However, he better not get lazy in this fight because the Punisher can get pretty vicious at times. Well rounded MMA skill level wise, I give the big advantage to Wilson. However, Lambert has a big time strenght advatage in this bout.
I have been hyping Wilson Gouveia on this forum for quite some time now. I really hope that he doesn’t dissapoint this weekend.

Violent Mike could not be more right here. I hope the oddsmakers make Lambert a big favorite, so I can make some $$$ on Gouveia. I was at UFC in Ohio when Lambert fought Babalu, Babalu dominated the first 4:30, taking Lambert’s back twice, then got hit with an uppercut with 10 seconds left in the round that he never recovered from. Gouveia will leg kick Lambert to a slow and painful loss. Take the underdog and run with it here

I see Wilson also having the edge in this fight. No disrespect to Lambert because he is a gruelining fighter, I just think that Wilson’s skill will be the difference

I too like Gouveia in this fight, but Marrero was not a real indicator of anything. If Gouveia stays off his back, he should win.

True. Carmelo is the name of my dog and that’s really the only reason I mentioned him, but Marrero did have an impressive start to his UFC career in the HW division. He beat Cheick Kongo, anyone remember that?? And then he ran into Gabe Gonzaga. Then he dropped down to LHW and faced Wilson.

Yeah, I remember…Cheick had 0 ground defense and even then, Marrero didn’t do much…won by split I think. Napao embarrassed him, he dropped weight and then got handled by Gouveia. Marrero = can He should drop weight again.
Gouveia beat him easily by quick sub and then called out Liddell … Liddell lost the strap later that night to Rampage.

Gouveia is a dead man…if you pick him over Lambert I want some of what you all are smoking…Jason Lambert is the best LHW in the UFC…He would knockout any of the other top 10…He is going to do to Wilson what he did to Babalu…Lambert would even knock out The Iceman in the first round…JASON"THE PUNISHER"LAMBERT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

If Lambert loses, I hope he chooses to cut down to middleweight. He obviously has room to do so. While I am usually 100% against breast reduction, in the Punisher’s case I will make an exception. I also think he can add to the depth at the thin MW dvision.
(Lambert has not fought in quite awhile. Did he have an injury of some sort that I missed?)

You have to be overrated if you become the Light Heavyweight champion and defend the title five times.
Sarcasm is fun.

I LIKE HOW U MENTION THE DEFENDING THE TITLE 5 TIMES MY BOY TITO DID AND LOOK HOW U PEOPLE DISS ON HIM…ITS A DOUBLE STANDARD JUS LIKE HOW CHUCK AND FORREST GET WHAT THEY WANT CAUSE THEY GIVE DANA ORAL FUN AND OTHER FIGHTERS HAVE TO WORK FOR THERE SPOT

You’re right, as a fighter, Tito’s record deserves respect. He was a champ and defended the title 5 times. He has some great wins over some good fighters. No disrespect to your boy Tito, but what seperates Tito and Chuck is that Liddell has beaten Tito twice. Tito was beaten soundly in both fights with Chuck. I’m not saying Tito is any better or worse, but you can’t say Chuck is overrated and then praise Tito. Chuck has Tito’s number just like Rampage has Chuck’s number.

What seperates Tito and Chuck is that chuck always fought who was placed in front of him as champion. On the other hand Tito made a career out of ducking number #1 contenders!

Nope. He was supposed to fight Gouveia in the fall and Gouveia got injured so the fight was post-poned.
And for the man boob commentators…look at Jason’s physique. He just doesn’t have the body type to look like a Babalu or Rashad. He’s got a freakishly wide frame over his whole body. That’s where he gets the power to knock guys out.
And while I agree he is largely GNP, keep in mind he’s got 8 submission victories to his name as well; including that kimura on Rob McDonald.
