Dam I hope Stevenson chokes him out. I said it before and I’ll say it again he should have got kicked out of the UFC just like babaloo. He held on to the RNC longer on Pulver than he had to and he gets a title shot.

People seem to forget that BJ Penn has the most natural talent of any mma fighter. The problem is that he doesn’t NEED to fight to make a good living since he comes from a very wealthy family, and as most everyone knows, he tends (tended) to be very lazy. He would come into his fights out of shape and just rely on his natural abilities. The problem was that being out of shape, he wasn’t able to utilize all of his natural abilites, especially after the first round…

But being a coach on TUF and fighting Jens Pulver supposedly got BJ back in the right frame of mind. Back when The Prodigy first hit the scene, mma was nothing like it is today. It was still ‘underground’. Now that it is mainstream and so much money in involved, BJ realizes that if he trains 100%, he can be on the top. That would make him even more recognizable, and be financially beneficial.

Great post VM..I totally agree..BJ Penn is cut from a different clothe..He is Jordanness in the cage. what if a super trained and confident BJ fights GsP again?? Will GsP win by a split decision again?? BJ Penn is good for the sport..And for those who don’t know..go ask somebody.

Nonsense, being in such a fight. being in basically any fight at all, pumps your adreanaline so high you practically don’t feel a referee or opponent tapping on your arm or on the ground. And it’s not like you are looking out for the tap, like in training(cause you’re obviously training to learn, not to hurt people). You are trying to finish and win a fight.

First, I don’t think Babalu should have been kicked out. If he would have kept his mouth shut that it was intentional, I don’t think there would have been any question to remove him. I guess BJ was just smarter keeping his mouth shut and Jens is still fighting, healthy and all.

I like both these guys, but I have a hard time seeing Joe beat BJ. Who knows we have seen bigger upsets.

Does anyone know where BJ is training in his lead up to the fight? I know some UFC fighters in the past have used Wolfslair facilities.

BJ Penn looks like he’s in shape. And an in-shape BJ Penn can wreck just about anyone.

Penn by Sub. Round 1.

BJ Penn isn’t “BJ Penn” for nothing. Joe Daddy is a great up and coming fighter, but he hasn’t really fought the top tier talent of the lightweight division. Where are the Florians, or Huertas, or Guidas, or Tyson Griffin? He’s strung together some wins sure, but over who? A way over-hyped striker in Guillard? “Batman” was his toughest test and it went 3 rounds and Kurt had a broken hand!!
Joe Daddy will definitely be a force to be reckoned with, but BJ Penn is focused and in shape.
Maybe next year Stevenson, 2008 belongs to The Prodigy.

Bj has signified a champion status he fought in every weight class and proved he is the best something that most fighters want to (GSP) prove. bj is the best and this is a stepping stone for bj to prove once again that overall he is the best fighter in the world today. I hope after saturday alot of people stop talkiing shit about bj condition and see that no fighter can stop bj in any weight class.

I guess the difference was that Pulver didnt pass out nor was he badly hurt from the fight, now Heath was bleeding like crazy and passed out so a guy that is covered with blood unconcious that looks like he got ran over by a truck compared to Pulver who just got up, thats the difference. I think they made a mistake in fireing babalu a suspension and fine would have been good and BJ also deserved a suspension and fine not get kicked out.

Im scared just looking at his training pics. He clearly looks in the best shape of his life. He has a 6 pac this time. Never seen that before on BJ.

Hughes, GSP and theres is plenty of ppl that would give him hell at LW like edgar, fisher, huerta, guida, sherk, etc…

I love this match up…just don’t think it should have been a main event…maybe a co-main event. The last few ppv ‘s have had great line ups…these next two don’t seem that great. The next great even will be in March with Spyder vs Hendo. But anyway the fite can go either way because in MMA your only a punch or submission away from a win… I’ll HOlla!

BJ also admitted he kept the choke for a lil longer but not on the post fight interview, he did it a few weeks later when getting interviewed by somebody not affiliated with the ufc

I dont know dude a focused and in shape BJ Penn is a good fighter but a focused, in shape both physically and mentally GSP will demolish him, yes BJ looks great and ofcourse in shape is better but damn after watching GSP’s new face at the beggining of the fight and his performance dude i think GSP will win by TKO first ever for BJ

Joe Daddy is a talented fighter with excellent wrestling. I think it’s enough to keep him in the fight for a while and put up a good showing, but this fight and the title are Penn’s to lose.

Jordan had the most talent, the most drive, and the biggest will to win. BJ arguably has the most talent, which is debatable, but the fire inside has never been shown!

I agree with both your points. If BJ dedicates himself properly he can be as dominate if not better then both GSP and Anderson Silva…..he has that much natural ability. I would love to see BJ at his best vs. GSP at his best….what a BANG! I dont see how so many people can hate on BJ..its just mind boggling!

by john on Jan 16, 2008 1:11 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I would love to be able to look down the road 5 years from now and KNOW exactly what GSP is all about.

Silva is going to lose to Hendo (I hope), which will humanize him. He should then take on Lindland to prove he can beat a wrestler. back to the topic.

BJ will not beat Sherk. I just don’t see how he can deal with the shark or how anyone in that division can. Steroids or no Steroids Sherk will be back. He will beat Joe Daddy, probably through unanimous decision. BJ will also win a title and relax again, which will cause him to lose the belt.

I can’t see GSP losing to anyone. The scary thing about GSP is his youth and his uncanny ability to evolve. His wrestling will get better, how?, I don’t know, but it will.
He is out wrestling EVERYBODY and it’s still fresh to him.
His striking is amazing and his sub-game is great.

Anyone can lose a fight. If GSP is always ready, im not sure anybody at 170 or lower stands a chance.

The Prodigy in shape for 5 rounds is a scary thought.

Out of shape BJ wins WW title at UFC 46.
Out of shape BJ pounds GSP at WW, avoids any real damage, but loses split at UFC 58.
Out of shape BJ dominates Hughes at WW for 2 rounds before breaking rib/gassing to lose by TKO at UFC 63.

If BJ actually commits to fighting 5 rounds, I see him dominating LW, moving up and dominating WW (and GSP if he hasnt already moved to MW), getting bored at WW and actually trying MW.

good point savage

anyone know if Penn is strong? he looks like he might be one of the weakest guys in the division but he may just have a deceptive build… he generally just looks like a small guy… he has sick skills and I think he will win but still its weird

In GSP Vs Penn I did GSP even land one damn punch . . . Demolish BJ Penn LOL HAHAHAH!! Are you kidding me . . . You have to be able to make contact before you can even think about demolishing someone. GSP fans get real!! GSP is amazing no doubt!! And that sweet BJJ he used to close out Hughes was beyond DOPE! But it was Matt Hughes (his only losses have been by way of submission) and Hughes is nearing 40 years old and never wants to add to his traing regiment or go outside of Iowa for training partners. He wins one of the closest decisions in UFC history against a pot smoking, Mcdonalds eating BJ Penn, but now he can demolish BJ . . .Yall are funny!!
Bottom line – GSP went to the emergency room after that fight and BJ Penn went out for drinks at the local bars! Stop kidding yourselves!

GSP went to the hospital with a broken nose, but most importantly a VICTORY.

Im so tired of the Bj NUTHUGGERS, i will admit he is very talented and has all the tools. But im so sick of hearing ppl lavish that he so great. In the past 5 years in the UFC BJ has compiled a amazing record of 2 wins, 2 lose’es, and 1 draw. If Bj actually trained, which btw in the photo’s he does look to be in great shape, he could be a force to be reckon with. But he is so lazy and runs his mouth. Till he starts backing his Shyt talking. Lets start with a W over Joe Stevenson. If he accomplishes that will he try and duck Sherk with all the crap thats come out of BJ’s mouth. Or will he try and go after GSP. Or hell while your at it BJ why dont you go after Rampage. Untill I see a couple W’s in a row by BJ then i will never be impressed by him. Come all you BJ fans talk some trash back, your boy is LAZY and UNDETERMEND

I see out all the things i wrote you could only comment on the last line and your right “the hospital” not the “emergency room” but really, who cares what room in the hospital he got his treatment from . . . And i quote GSP “If i have anymore fights like that im gonna have a short career” while his corner men and trainers covered him in bandages. And i quote BJ “That was good, who cares, thats was good fighting man” as he gets his hands unwrapped unscratched waiting on a cold brewsky. You talk now but as the rematch gets closer im sure you’ll grow silent.

I think you mean “your boy WAS lazy and undetermend” . . .

I like GSP alot, like alot dude! As well as Anderson Silva, Penn, Jackson. And for anyone to act like BJ sucks you just dont know MMA and dont appreciate the art that he performs! Its like a canvas for BJ, everyone learns the moves that go with BJJ but not one MMA fighter has the balls to even try 2/3s of them in an actual fight. He goes out there flails his legs in every direction exposing his face and pulls it off, 95% of fighters are too panicked on their backs toeven consider the stuff he attempts everytime you put him on his back!

People are already jumpin on his bandwagon, and I hope to god I never get thrown into that group WHEN he achieves champion status again, us Penn fans have had to take a lot of crap from people that have only seen or only look at his two losses the last WW attempt.
All of a sudden this “Penn is the most talented” talk, which I never use to see unless it was me writing it.
I am glad to see people recognizing this fact, however, I know most will bail the second Penn doesnt look perfect, like tons did when GSP lost to Serra.

ADAMG,

In my last post i said BJ is very talented and has all the tools, never once did i say BJ sucked. Let me restate that in his past 5 years in the UFC that his record isnt very impressive, i know i know he has only fought 5 times. I enjoy watching BJ fight. But like i stated i wont be impressed till he starts putting together a nice winning streak and continues to stay focused and in shape. Which i dont think he will do, I hope he proves me wrong because he is a talent in the Octagon.

But i do agree with everything your saying. It pains me to say it though, hes dissapointed me too many times recently but as his #1 fan (in my head atleast) I have to defend him to the bitter end just on hopes alone that the end will be bitter sweet for BJ (And all his #1 fans out there) . . . Ok, here is how I see it. BJ is awesome but so is GSP. Whom he has not beaten. I see BJ having problems with GSP as GSP is huge and a great MMA fighter. This ain’t the old days where BJ can pull some BBJ off his back with GSP. So he’s going to have to mix it up really good. And in that arena GSP is no slouch. GSP is a devestating machine from the top. BJ does not work from the top. If I were BJ training on this fight I would look to get on top of GSP which is practically impossible. Look at Hughes and Koscheck both unable to get top position let alone take downs. Stand up BJ is awesome but I’d give that edge to GSP as well. I just don’t see it happening for BJ unless he really changes something. As crazy as this sounds BJ has a punchers chance of winning and GSP has already proven he has a chin. Serra just showed that he’s a finisher. That little fire plug can throw. I don’t think he’d win on a rematch nor do I think he’ll beat Hughes if they ever fight again. Penn vs GSP money on GSP by decision.
