Fight Science: UFC fighters put mixed martial arts (MMA) to the test

I was up late last night, watching "San Quentin Unlocked" on the National Geographic channel.
Real exciting stuff.
Anyway, during the show there were commercials for an upcoming program called "Fight Science" that features some notable UFC fighters past and present.
Here's the premise:
"The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) showcases the most skilled mixed martial art (MMA) fighters. Scientists analyze the unique fighting styles and capabilities of legendary fighters like Randy Couture, former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten, former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz and two-time world submission grappling champion Dean Lister."
The mixed martial arts (MMA) episode (and the series) debuts on the National Geographic channel on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at 8 p.m. ET. To check out a video trailer click here.
If it's anything like Rampage Jackson video right here then it will be worth tuning-in to see.

Will they weigh Titos head? That’s a science experiment worth watching.

this is mint – been waiting for this for a while. All UFC fighters are looking for a pay day – it would be wicked if they had a lil competition for – hardest punch, kick, grip, strength – 5G’z per win?
id say,
punch – Sylvia/Arlovski
Kick – Mirko (with out a doubt)
Grip – Mir/Lesnar
Strength – Lesnar
…IMO

Technically the thickest Skull in the fight game was to my knowledge acredited to Fujita..that dude got a big dome..but Tito’s ego tips the scale a bit too.

I dunno.. I usually don’t like these types of shows.. I saw one once about martial arts where they did similar tests. Seems to me like they’re trying to use fancy graphics, dramatic technology, and fighters who are willing to whore themselves out to make a buck off MMA. I really am not interested.

Check this out:
The results show the comparative strengths, advantages and limitations of each technique these fighters may use during combat. Among the results, scientists determine that Rutten’s kick generates a force equivalent to a 35-mph car crash, and Couture’s endurance is nearly 10 times better than that of the average person and his blows generate double the force of a heavyweight boxer’s best punch.
Randy can punch that hard?

You have an absolutely unique genetic condition known as Homer Simpson Syndrome. It’s like wearing a football helmet inside your own head. Why I could wallop you all day with this surgical two-by-four without ever knocking you down.

Mark and Cabbage can take a shot and they do have some big domes..but when I was watching pride John..they informed the viewers that doctor’s measured Fujita’s Dome and he had the thickest skull in the game.

would you rather have a million dollars, or Tito’s head full of nickels?

60? That’s a backhanded compliment. I didn’t see it. It’s very hard for me to read ALL the comments even though I do try. Best way is to email it to me.

They measured Dean Lister’s punching power? I wonder how much it pales in comparison with Rampage’s punch lol.

I can’t wait to see it. If it’s about MMA, but more important, the UFC I’m going to be watching it. Even if I’m working, I’ll make time to stop and watch it.
