UFC Quick Quote: Loss helps Kendall Grove prepare for Jorge Rivera UFC 80 fight

"I couldn't of asked for better training. I came up to Big Bear for this one. I just can't wait to fight.... When you lose, you definitely don't want to lose again. That's what motivates you to get on it. I pushed my cardio and I pushed my stand-up even more. I made some mistakes in my last fight and I don't want to make the same mistakes again.... My fans are gonna expect the same ‘Spyder' like they've seen on the show ... exciting. Some ground and pound. Look for some submissions. As long as I go in there and give it all I got, that's all I need in my eyes."
-- Season three winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Kendall Grove, tells MMAWeekly.com that his recent loss to Patrick Cote has helped him prepare for his upcoming 185-pound tilt with Jorge Rivera at UFC 80: "Rapid Fire" this weekend. "Da Spyder" returned to the relative seclusion of Big Bear, Calif., to prepare for the bout and get back on the path to title contention.

What a joke, Jorge is done for and Grove gains nothing for beating him.

Why do they have him still fighting these TUFF alumni’s and not any real names? I keep wondering when is he going to step up and keep fight some of the better names in that weight class.

A source stated:
“Confirmed” Edgar fighting @ UFC 84
Frankie Edgar fighting in mid April- Most Likely UFC 84 or possibly UFN 13… but its confirmed and its in mid april. No opponent set.
I got inside info on edgar. i was the first to post that he was fighting spencer fisher at UFC 78.
However a different source that has previously reported that Burkman vs. Karo at UFC 71 and Arlovski vs. Werdum at UFC 70 has reported that GOMI is signed to the UFC and that he would be fighting at UFC 83. This source predicted the arlovski/werdum and burkman/karo fight way before they were ever announced and way before they were ever even made rumors.
In my eyes, this source is very reliable and I hope that he is right about the signing of Gomi. Edgar isn’t the ideal UFC debut opponent. but as long as GOMI is in the UFC I am happy.
Either way it looks certain Edgar will be fighting in April or May and it looks like he will be involved in a big fight.
Pray Gomi is a UFC fighter!

He won TUF 3, got a guaranteed and exclusive UFC contract and has never fought in the IFL.

I think you guys are wrong. Jorge wins this fight. Remember Jorge was having his way with Cote and he got lucky with an up kick that changed the fight. If he won that fight he might have been the winner of season four as he already has a victory against Travis Luther.

you guys should find the video of him getting KNOCKED OUT by Hector Ramirez. it was a KOTC event. Kendall was fighting up a weightclass, but it didn’t last long.
I will be pulling for Jorge for the first time, seems like i already lost though.

Grove needs bigger fights soon, or he’ll likely stay “down there” for a while. IMO though, he’s not a real threat to the already weak division.

Most of the tuffers are real fighters before tuf Jorge was a touhg dude. Stop disrespecting fighters because they took the chance to move up in there career and got put on a show about fighting. Now most of the tuffers are laughing to the bank.

Grove was embarassed by Cote in his last fight. If he had beaten Cote, then he would’ve deserved a top-level Middleweight. Grove is destined to be a “UFC gatekeeper” unless he can string together a few wins. If that happens, then give him Leben, or Terry Martin, or maybe even Michael Bisping or Jason MacDonald.

Its actually quite simple why Kendall Grove is still fighting the likes of Jorge Rivera – he lost his last fight, to Patrick Cote. Although Patrick was on a 2 fight win streak coming into the fight against Grove (his first 2 wins in the UFC after losing his first 4), he was no where near the top of the division.
Jorge Rivera isn’t a total pushover either, the guy has heart and experience. And those are the departments where Kendall lacks. Kendall has all of the physical tools needed to be successful in the MW divison, but he has yet to get his head straight and focused strictly on his career.

your right seems like there trying to give him a win, they must have a few fights left on his contract and want him to be worth something.if he loses this fight he’ll look pretty bad.

Yeah, but Grove was also having his way with Cote, but got caught by a wild right. Grove is too much for Rivera. TKO in the second.

I think jorge can pull this one out(maybe). He’s tough as nails and as experienced as your ginna get. Plus he’s coming off some losses, he needs this win, bad! I think he will have some trouble with the heaght of that skinny bastard, but i wouldn’t be surprised he pulled off the upset.

Grove sucks man. Tall, goofy bastard, but I think he’ll win.

I had high hopes for Kendall.. The guy is no joke to deal with – size, intensity and a growing skill set. However, when he gets hit he goes out like a light. That’s not something you can really improve on.

What gets me most is that I think Ed Herman won that match up against Groove. KEndall was the big Winner and has not done anything in the UFC and lost to his one real name in Cote. Herman lost the Tuff series and has bigger names already in his resume. Sometimes I get confused real easily by the actions of the UFC. Are they nursing his ego or what?
