Report: UFC releases several fighters from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6

the ultimate fighter 6 tuf 6
Zuffa is clearing a little TUF 6 house just one month after the mixed martial arts (MMA) reality series wrapped in December 2007, according to Sam Caplan.

Here's the cut list:

  • Dan Barrera
  • Blake Bowman
  • Paul Georgieff
  • Richie Hightower
  • John Kolosci
  • Billy Miles
  • Dorian Price

Maybe a show that showcases 16 up-and-coming welterweight (the promotion's most stacked division) fighters wasn't such a good idea after all. Not to mention the eventual winner, Mac Danzig, immediately dropped to lightweight.

We'll never get all that time back ... sorry Jesse. Hindsight is 20/20.

i liked john, but he was 1-4 and his win was billy… I think he should get 1 more shot if he gets a couple WEC wins or something.

the ufc isnt worried about bringing in 16 talented guys like they were in the first couple of seasons, they are into bringing 3 or 4 guys that actually can have success in the ufc and the rest they bring in for entertainment so they can make a drama filled reality tv show.

Awwww, no more turd…

Dan Barrera – He is young and VERY inexperienced. It would have been dumb for him to stay in the UFC at this point in his career, fighting UFC quality fighters. He needs to keep training, stay away from the mirror in the bathrooms, and fight in some smaller shows to gain some much needed experience and victories. Three years from now, I would not be surprised if Barrera made it back to the UFC if he found a good camp. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he committed suicide within the next three years either…

Blake Bowman – This kid was just brought onto the show for comedic relief, and he didn’t even do a good job at that.

Paul Georgieff – He admitted that he doesn’t like getting hit in the face. Then MMA ain’t for you buddy, go pick up a racket and start playing tennis.

Richie THE TURD Hightower – He did provide some rather exciting fights, but too bad for him, he was on the losing end of all of them. Mac Danzig is laughing somewhere right now.

John Kolosci – This guy has heart, but not much technique. If he didn’t face Billy Miles in the first round, he wouldn’t have advanced to round 2, and therefore, most likley wouldn’t have been a replacement for round 3 either. John did seem like a good guy, and I wish him the best.

Billy Miles – I don’t know how he made the show. I thought he was just as bad as Bowman.

Dorian Price – Honestly, I don’t even want to get started on Dorian Price, thinking back to his blog or whatever where he was making threats to people that post on the internet, LOLOLOLOL. If you want to hear what I had to say about Dorian, you can find it by going through the Dorian Price category on the left.

Well, i think this is like american idol to an extent. They are going to start to run low after they tap all the “unfound talent” in several weight divisions. On the flip side MMA is rapidly growing, and this could result in many more people trying it out themselves.

Barrerra was a suprise to me. The bastard works hard and seemed to have a half decent future with proper training.

Danzig is a good addition to the LW’s.

The show needs finishers. People who go for the kill and are not scared to take a punch, not people who take craps in eachother toilets and get mad.

Id like to see them actually get some talent.. In all honesty, I was not implressed with the bunch they casted this last season. Yes, sure Danzig was good and George and maybe even War. But I think they need to look deeper into how they cast tht damn show. . .

I saugh Billy Miles at the weight ins with James Irvin, maybe he started training with some people and will be back later, I also ran into him at a club in mandalay bay but nobody wanted to talk to him i was gonna say whats up but, forgot his name and didnt want to be like hey your the guy that got chocked out in 30 seconds, lol i guess all these dudes need to train some more get some wins in another org and then will be back

seriously, i know ppl dont like Richie, but he was an exciting to watch.especial in the finale he was giving Rude Boy a pretty good fight.i would like to see Dan do better being he is hometown here or at least fighting out of Fort Knox.

I completly agree. Why they still have this guy is beyond me. He’s 6-6 (0-2 UFC) and has been arrested for beating up unspecting people that where outnumbered 12 to 2.

I didn’t bother following TUF6. It looked bs from the start. I don’t actually like the idea all that much anymore. I watched the the first three seasons and a little bit of five. I’ll watch 7 because of the coaches it should be funny.

Sometimes I think they just look for idiots that will do something dumb and entertaining in the house rather than proper fighters.

I know season one had some good fighters but I can’t believe they cut Jon Fitch (I know it was back in 2002). Probably because he wouldn’t get involved in any of the dumb stuff in the house and then he’d just terminate his opponents in about 30 seconds and they wouldn’t have enough footage for the show lol.

Billy looked so strong, I can’t believe they dropped him.

by Jackhole on Jan 14, 2008 2:23 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Richie is being loaned out to gain experience outside of the Octagon. I think that he’s fighting for the Palace Championship Fighting or something like that. He will be back in the Octagon is he can string together some wins. I’m ok with most of these guys getting cut. They got their chance and didn’t win the show or their prelim fights. I think that they should do this more often that way the roster isn’t full of TUF guys.

I hear the quality of fighter is gonna increase drastically in season 7. I expect to be familiar with many of the fighters. “Jacre” was rumored to be a participant

by john on Jan 14, 2008 2:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

EliteXC will be there to pick them up or Zuffa will transfer them to the WEC. I suspect they may release them from the UFC and grant them WEC contracts.

The question is then. What are they going to do to TUF is it winning gets a contract and the rest are left with no opportunity? Dana White said that they are going to revamp TUF. I’d like to know how?

by Mr. Jitters on Jan 14, 2008 2:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hummm…… winner gets a UFC contract the rest got to WEC?

Seems a bit harsh look at George, Manny or Gray they all belong in the UFC.

WHO EVER PICS THESE GUYS HAS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT CRY BABIES.
1) “I MISS MY GIRLFRIEND”
2) “HOPE MY GIRLFRIEND IS NOT CHEATING ON ME”
3) “MY GIRL BETTER BE HOME WHEN I GET THERE”

I HATE THESE JOKERS.

Don’t bag on the WEC. They have some very talented fighters, and the live events that I’ve seen have all been great. It doesn’t get the same attention as UFC, but WEC is right there too.

I figured they’d use Hightower like they used Josh Haynes for a while… Feed him to an up and comer but get a good fight out of it.

by Brian on Jan 14, 2008 3:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

The bottom line is that none of these guys save Hightower have the mental stability and/or attitude to compete in this sport. I was surprised that Hightower was cut because he struck me as someone willing to put it on the line every time and he showed that too. I expect him to get another shot at some point once he fights in some small shows for a while.

Barerra was the least surprising cut. That guy obviously has some serious problems and I doubt he will ever see the octagon again.

No, of course not those guys. I’m actually surprised that those guys went that way about getting a contract with the UFC. Still question remains how the hell did Jon Fitch not make the series?

(2002, what the hell was I talking about. 2005 it was.)

I kind of meant the likes of Leben (I actually think he’s more professional and less childish now) and Sam Hoger. Looked like idiots on the show. At the time I also thought Koscheck was a bit of a dick too.

Yikes.. 8 of the 16 fighters gone. This really was the least talented/most inexperienced cast of the show’s history.

And to think people were complaining that I was too hard on the “fighters” from that season in my recaps…

by Jesse Holland on Jan 14, 2008 8:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

The fact that I couldn’t pick most of these guys out of the photo is why I would have to agree with their decision. The UFC has a wealth of talent, especially in the welterweight division, so they can afford to be picky.

Dude great match up josh haynes vs hightower, they both fight welterweight (or did josh haynes quit?) anyways that’d be sweet.

I actually think the whole way the house is run sucks…

I think they should have 2 fights a week. One to move on and one against the next loser to kick your butt out of the house permentantly. Why give guys so many chances to be idiots. I would sooner see more training and extra out in public type events.

Maybe have two teams winners stay and move on, losers fight to stay and train… It should be a privilege to stay and train not a given if you wanna.

I would be all for seeing em do an international version. 16 guys, 4 USA & 2 CANUCKS, 2 Brazilians, 2 Orientals, 2 Russians, 2 Europeans, 2 Africans. Something along those lines 1/2 Strikers and 1/2 Grapplers (and people with a pedigree in a sport) Like Jui Juitsu champ from Brazil, Russian Sambo, Japaneese Judo, European Savate, Or a Tai Kickboxer. Get back into the purist athletic versions and Get em to Learn another aspect of the game and show that side of it. Why have 2 teams why not just 2 coaches and let em train the weakness of the guys. Shoot going this way cant get worse than bowman or billy. I miss the days when the Judo guy would take on the TKD guy or a boxer would fight a wrestler. I know I know everyone is gonna say but its mma, Look at the guys in the past seasons has any of them produced a champion yet… Except Serra he was a comeback case. I enjoyed that aspect of the show all comebacks would be neat too.

I imagine soon they will get a female version going…

Just as long as they stay away from celebrity mma, Micheal jackson vs boy george would be a smash… How about moby and eminem or kid rock and ??? I cant remember who he fought with over pam.

I presume Tommy Lee lol. I can’t get the idea of Jacko vs. Boy George out of my head. The PPV buys would go through the roof!!! Jacko’s nose would come off for sure. And Boy George would be prancing around the octagon going “Do you really want to hurt me?”
