UFC 82: Luke Cummo vs. Luigi Fioravanti

Welterweight finalist from season two of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Luke Cummo (6-4), now has an opponent for his upcoming fight at UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" on March 2 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio:
Luigi Fioravanti (11-3).
That's the latest from his official Web site forum, on which he also revealed last week that he would compete on the undercard of the pay-per-view (PPV) event.
Here's the latest snip:
"I am taking this fight as serious as DEATH. Luigi is tough and I will prepare for my hardest fight. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best..."
Something tells me he is indeed that serious.
Cummo is on a two-fight win streak inside the Octagon, battering Josh Haynes and Edilberto "Crocata" en route to decisive wins. Fioravanti, on the other hand, has lost his last two contests in the Octagon to Forrest Petz and Jon Fitch, respectively.
The hard-hitting American Top Team (ATT) product did win his last time out at a Pacific X-treme Combat show in Guam back in July.
UFC 82 features the monster showdown between current 185-pound champion, Anderson Silva, and former Pride FC champion, Dan Henderson. For the latest rumored UFC 82 fight card click here.

Luigi looked good against Fitch, but overmatched.
I like Fioravanti over Cummo in this one.

A funny moment in the octagon came when Cummo had caught Crocata on the chin..and Crocata looks to the side as if someone was there..chk it out..it’s bugged out.

Luigi Fioravanti likes to keep the fight standing. And so does Luke, and he’s actually been talking about his striking as of late. I think Luke has what it takes to pull it out. Drink piss.

Joe – that is nice work. I was thinking his water bottle will be filled with piss in his corner.
Maybe that is Cummo submission, THE Golden Shower :)
Luigi, make sure you drink heaps of water to return the favour.

I think with both their styles..Luke will win. Luke and Luigi are very good with striking..Luigi more of a KO..power..gritty slugger..Luke very elusive and accurate..on the ground I will give the edge to Luke and they both have bjj..I just thinks Luke’s is better. Luke may have a problem with a strong wreslter..with takedowns..and good cardio..I don’t see Luigi putting Luke in a bad situ. I say 1st round KO/submission..if it goes to the cards..Luke will most likely get the nod.

PhilQNY: that was a really good assesment of their fight. Joe Silva did a really good job at putting this fight together. these two b-level fighters match up really well and it will make for an exciting fight. Luke could win due to his accuracy. Fioravanti could win by his grit and scrappyness….it will be fun to watch.

I have a feeling that they both are just going to go in there headhunting. I think (as you stated) Luigi has more KO Power, and I think he catches Luke Cummo. I think a Luigi vs. Josh Haynes would be interesting because they both are scums of the UFC.
I want Luke to win by all means, I just think he gets caught in this fight.

Yeah I agree. Good assessment there by PhilQNY. I’d have to go with Cummo. I think his standup is looking crisper each time out. He’s got some skills that’s for sure.
