Former UFC champion Sean Sherk on steroid scandal fallout, BJ Penn and more (Video)
Props: MMACanada.net
For more on the actual UFC 79 event that Sherk was attending in Canada click here.
There's also a Josh Koscheck video interview (who also attended the event) in which he indicates Diego Sanchez "fell in love" and apologized for the "weigh-in shove" and "Kos" also confirms the bout with Dustin Hazelett at UFC 82: "Pride of a Champion" in March. For that clip click here.
(Thanks to MMAmania.com reader "Seamus" for the assist ... who I also believe is the interviewer in the Sherk interview.)

I can’t see it for some reason.

So, he should test positive again if he indeed has natural high levels of nandralone?

Man I cant stand this guy. Im not gonna pretend like I have any idea of what a normal level of nardralone is or whatever the case may be…. but he tested positive. He should stop complaining about his trial and drop the topic.

I am so sick of this guy. He needs to fly under the radar a bit, when his suspension is over I will welcome him back, but until then please shut your trap!

Is it me, or did Sherk talk with a fake Canadian accent in this interview? The reason I dont think Sherk is a true champ is because he’s champ in a division in which he has to cut 40 lbs to be in. He’s kind of like Riggs if you think aout it- a division jumper who cuts mad weight because the competition in his true weight division is justtoo good. He couldnt beat St Pierre or Silva. BJ is going to just own this guy. I dont even think he could beat Stevenson.
And Sean, you’re not the champion anymore. You tested positive for steroids. They took your belt. You are not the champ! Get over it, woman.

I think that Sherk would be able to beat Joe Stevenson rather easily. Joe Stevenson is basically a younger, less experienced, Sean Sherk. Not that he lay n prays, but that he is a short, pile of muscle with primarily a wrestling background. I must say that when Sherk was Joe’s age, he was no where near as well rounded as Stevenson.
The only way I see Sean Sherk losing a fight in the LW division is if he gets KTFO. You are not going to win a ground fight with this guy – he is simply to good on the ground, and is strong enought to power out of almost any submission. Also, good luck trying KO Sherk standing, becuase he typically doesn’t keep the fight standing for long. So a fighter that can beat Sherk would have to have Top Notch take down defense and KO power in their hands/feet/knees. Sean Sherk can take a punch too. GSP is the only fighter to every finish Sherk. He was able to stuff the takedowns and beat Sherk up. Right now, I don’t see anybody in the LW division able to stop the Sean Sherk takedown.

I asked KOS what he knew about Dustin – and he brushed it off and said he doesn’t watch tape, he just prepares for a fight…he’s a really nice guy, but he seems to be looking through/past Hazelett a bit – who knows…but I love the guys that fight/train out of Gurgel’s camp, an upset in the making maybe?

He’s from Minnesota, which is pretty much just South Canada.

I hope u r right. I dont know enough about Dustin to offer any insight, but I do know that I cant stand Kos with a passion and I would love to see anyone beat him, especially a fighter rated lower then him who he is probably underestimating.
Go Dustin! by the way the McLovin comment is Hilarious!

Hey Mr. NC-17, I know you are from the Cincinatti area…
Does Dustin use ‘McLovin’ as his ‘official’ nickname now? I’m pretty sure it was after the Lynch fight (although it may have been against Goulet, but he definately finished the fight in the first round), he was either announced as “Dustin McLovin Hazelett”, or he referred to himself as McLovin, I can’t remember which. But I think it was the first of the two.

I agree with your analysis of Sherk and what it would take to beat him. I think BJ is plenty capable ( if he is in shape). Mainly his decent takedown defense and his amazing flexibility. If he can keep it reasonably busy on the feet and keep a good full guard when Sherk does get the takedowns, he could easily edge out a decision. Stopping the takedown completely will be tough, but if he can get it stood back up quick and be exciting standing a dec victory is possible.

What about BJ Penn, if BJ Penn comes in with serious condition I think he could take on sherk, after all he did submitt hughes 1 weight class higher. I think Hughes is stronger than Sherk.

He’s from Minnosota dude… Most guys cut a lot of weight, if you hate him, then hate forrest for not fighting at HW. He’s probably gonna lose to Penn, but Sherk is a good guy.

Sherk seems like a pretty articulate guy. Its good to see the fight game hasn’t scrambled his brains too much.
I’m a BJ Penn fan and want to watch the REAL championship fight with Sherk vs. Penn. I think that would be a big time rivalry there.
Joe Daddy’s earned his shot though. Next in line Huerta? Florian?

Steriods aside… if you can make that weight class and function at your highest potential, than that is your weight class. Weight cutting is brutal and if you’re mentally tough enough to handle it and perform well then you’ve earned it.
Lots of guys can cut weight but can’t funtion in that weight class.. I imagine by the time Sherk fights the next day he’s about 165-170 lbs…

I really don’t think Sherk has the talent and charisma of bj Penn. He’s very obsessed with his job,but not very talented.Bj, with Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, are the only MMA artists in the tradition of Bruce Lee.As for Joe Stevenson,I really like him,but he’s going down.
