Nick Diaz was offered a fight with Shinya Aoki at the Yarennoka! NYE event after JZ Calvancanti had to drop due to injuries, but was forced to decline the invitation because he it was deemed that one week was not enough time to prepare.
MMAFightline.com has since learned that Shinya Aoki will instead face South Korean fighter Bukyung Jung at the highly anticipated event.
I was looking forward to JZ vs. Shinya Akoi, Diaz would have been a great replacement but how could Diaz accept a fight against one of the top LW fighters in the world on 1 weeks notice?

He did the sakuraba foot stomp on BJ..
Damn all this clips..it seems as if time is moving in slow motion..I never thought 24hrs can come so slow.

I give BJ PENN respect for stepping into the ring with Machida. For any of the BJ PENN haters out there, what other Lightweight would have the balls to step in and fight at 205 with Machida? NO ONE.

Machida is very impressive, if he is able to defeat sokudju I believe he will be the #1 lhw contender who should get a title shot with the winner of Jackson /griffin.

DO YOU PEOPLE REALISE WHO THIS GUY IS? - This is the guy who can cut weight and absolutely rip Anderson Silva’s head clean off – n you know it. If silva beats hendo and machida loses 2mrw – then i can surely see it in the future

In order to increase his recognition factor and overall marketability, Machida needs to exhibit a little more of an agressive personality in this fight. If Soko wins this fight in an exciting manner, he could skyrocket in popularity since he seems to have a pretty cool personality and life story.

I’m going for Sokoudjou. I’m not into counter fighters. I like the fighters that push the action…even if they lose.

I hope he’s a little more exciting than he’s been in the UFC thus far. I saw his fight with franklin a while back and he made rich look like a joke.

I think that might be a bit of an overstatement. Rip his head off? More like, score points and win a decision.
I am impressed by his victories over Franklin and Bonner. I want to see Soko win this fight though. Unfortunately, I think Machida’s experience and fighter IQ will ultimately lead to him getting a decision over Soko.

He and Anderson both belong to the same gym. I doubt they would ever fight. I assume they are friends since it is Anderson’s gym that he opened

machida is a skilled striker, but he’s not ripping off Silva’s head anytime soon.

There is nobody out there that can hang with anderson silvas striking. Silva is on another level. So keep dreaming pal.

There is one big problem with this. Machida trains at Anderson’s gym.

Machida defenetly use to push the pace more, if you never saw the Franklin fight al the way through, he totally dominated Franklin, thats the machida I hope shows up to fight Soko, As boaring as people claim him to be I think he amazing to watch, but i would love to see him win by ko

I do not think he is ripping anyones head off. I think Silva would eat MAchida up to. Silva has more tools then he does. Silva is the best pound for pound fighter out there. He beat Penn but couldnot finish him. Penn was probably a 170lbs going into that fight. Silva would get Machida in the clinch and it would be over.

Soko is going to kill Machida
Machida should be fighting at 185, and he will move down after this fight.
He is too small for LHW, 11-0…but he hasn’t fought anyone as strong as Soko….

Yeah he is that good. He could probably cut to 185 but that is not going to happen while Anderson is the champ.

Is he going to cut weight to 185? If he does, I do think he would Anderon Silvaa run for his money. Machida via decision lol.

Maybe after his win against Soko, people will realize how good Machida is. And after seeing Spider Silva in his corner people will realize what some people have already been saying… he’s not dropping to 185 to fight his friend. Maybe if Henderson wins the title, but a big maybe. Especially since Machida is confident he can beat anybody (i.e. – Rampage or Forrest or Thiago).

Machida is the real deal. His previous UFC fights were borring but tactical. I think Machida deserves a shot at one of the top three guys. Jardin, Liddell or a big name like Tito.

lol I find it funny that you make a statement like that, tougher then what he thought huh? lol is that why he has 4 victories in the ufc in one year alone. PLease name me one fighter this year who has had more 3 fights in the one yearr. I think its the other away around, your justing hating because you dont like his style. pride fighters are the ones that are finding it tougher then what they expected.

Your Dreaming….. Silva Would Destroy Machida.
lol the same sliva who got beat by ryo chonan, and lost to Daiju Takase . Right okay, i know silva definatly could own those two now, and is much better, but still silva would not destroy machida. PLus there friends and training buddies, and lyoto isnt going drop because he is going to own the lhw division.
Back to back champs, lyoto and silva, blackhouse will own the ufc.
