chuck’s eyes on fire. i hope he wins, although i feel silva will beat him. its a more loss for liddell than silva, silva is his first fight since he fought tito back years ago,& can still fight for more for sure, but for liddell..

who cares who wins? this fight is going to be epic no matter what. And if you look at chuck’s record there’s no way you can count him out—even if he loses 3 in a row. Both fighters should have long and lucrative careers in the ufc.

chuck looks scared of him! i cant stand liddell, lets get him on the ground and then see how good he is! everybody is all over him and i dont really know y. all he can do is stand up and strike. now dont get me wrong he is very good at it but this is mma and he to me in my eyes isnt a very well rounded fighter

That press conference was awesome… It’s like the “calm before the storm”. I am super pumped about all of the main fights.

Interesting to hear that GSP was training for the Olympic wrestling tryouts too… I got a feeling Saturday night is gonna be mental.

maybe the reason is chuck strike is very effective,he so much rely on his stirkes & had a good result in his pas fights so found out that he think that he dont need to equip another skill in his arsenal because he can see that his strikes is phenomenal.

so afterwards he paid the price for it. i hope its a wake up for him

by mad_drummer on Dec 28, 2007 10:32 AM EST reply actions

yes he does have awesome strikes but look at his last two fights. he is staarting to get figured out. rampage counter punced the shit out of him. and jardine just had his number all the way. i think he needs to throw something new in there that nobody will expect from him or i think he will continue to get beat. which wouldnt bother me any!

Wanderlei will win this fight. Did anyone catch last nights UFC all access: Wanderlei? He is doing some of the smartest and most unique cardio work outs that I have ever seen.

I have come to realize that the problem with many of the PRIDE guys that cross over to the UFC do not train as well as UFC fighters. Not many PRIDE guys cut weight like UFC fighters.
It baffles me that wanderlei was PRIDE champion for many years and has never had a training camp dedicated to him. He has never had all those coaches and training partners focusing on just him. Wanderlei is a really smart guy. He saw the majority of Pride guys comming over and underacheiving in there octagon debuts. He got to see Shogun loose to a lesser skilled fighter (Forrest) who out-trained Shogun and won the victory because of cardio. Wanderlei was very smart by moving to the USA, get his own coaches and a camp dedicated to preparing only him for his fight with Liddell.

We will see a new and improved wanderlei, rededicated, and in the best shape of his life. He realized that PRIDE fighters have to start training like UFC fighters in order to be succesfull and he has done that. Wanderlei always fought his ultra agressive style and never came close to gassing (with the exception of last years fight vs. Hendo in which he was sick as hell). Now with his new and improved conditioning, I suspect that we will see the best wanderlei ever.

The unsuccesful PRIDE fighters will learn that they have to train like the Americans in order to succeed (with the exception of the stuborn cro cop)….and I believe that they will rededicate themselves and start to make an impact in there respected divisions (just like Rampage and Anderson did).

I am so excited to see the new and improved wanderlei fight this saturday. The old wanderlei had a great shot at beating Liddell. The new and improved wanderlei will blow right through the declining Iceman!

I will just sit back and enjoy!!!!

My guarentee of the year will be GSP over Hughes. Hughes isnt gonna waste any time trying to strike with GSP like the last fight. He will imediatly shoot for takedowns, which GSP will nullify with his world class SPRAWL. Eventually Hughes will get frustrated by not being to take GSP down, break mentally, and GSP will strike his way to a KO victory.

GSP has outwrestled:
Trigg
Sherk (he had sherk on his back for the whole fight
Hughes
Koschek (managed only 1 takedown, but was takendown like 4 times

I was thinking that GSP would putt Hughes on his back like he did to Koshek to put him in the most uncomfortable position (wrestlers hate being on there backs). Then I realized that being on his back against GSP isnt the worst possible senario for Hughes because he is a black belt in B ju jitsu and is skilled off his back. So GSP will keep the fight on its feet, were Hughes is like a fish out of water….and Kick him in his mouth again for a win.

This fight will not go to the ground at all! not even once. GSP wont even bother taking Hughes down (although he could) because making Matt stand n trade with him will just be a matter of time before GSP catches him, and then follows up for the Kill.

I havent been this sure about the outcome of a major fight in a long time. I am positive that GSP will finish HUGHES….Personally I will bet only on this fight.

I love wanderlei, and Soko, and I think they will both win there fights….But why risk money and bet on them, when GSP is an absolute lock….. GSP will be my only bet of the night, and I am betting BIG on him!

Soko vs. Machida will be a great fight. Tomorrow night is the night that Soko becomes a mainstream name. Machida is very skilled, but has little power. He has great footwork. Eventually he is gonna have to step inside striking range and trade blows with Soko which will be trouble for Machida because Soko has Ko power in both hands (he KO’ed Arona with a right upper cutt, and Noguerra with a left hook). I dont think Machida will be able to eat to many of Soko’s shots without getting Ko’ed.

If Machida tries to close the distance, he puts himself in Danger because I expect Soko to be Nasty in the clinch. Soko is a world class Judoka who has the advantage of working the clinch and grappling on a daily basis with one of the best in the business Hendo.

Machida is very skilled, but is lack of ability to finish a fight will cost him in this one because somewhere in the 15 minutes of the fight Soko is gonna connect with a solid blow, which will spell the END of Machida’s unbeaten streak.

This will be a very good fight! Soko wins….KO!

It sucks that the PPV starts right around half time of the Giants/Patriots game. I’ll just have to record the game from 10pm on and watch it on the DVR right after the PPV. Can you imagine of the Giants pull of the upset?

great post. exactly. guys like Crocop, Shogun, and Aurelio all gave the impression that they “believed their own hype” so to speak. this is why wandy is the first PRIDE fighter coming over that I am picking to win his Octagon debut. he is taking this thing very seriously and doesn’t seem to be leaving anything to chance.

Are you even joking? I’d say we’re seeing some of the best take down defense in GSP and best in Chuck Lidell. Chuck doesn’t get taken down, and if he does he just gets right back up. He has a great stradegy, and is getting beaten recently by faster strikers. “Rampage punched the shit out of him”???? WTF there were like 5 punches thrown that fight, 2 that landed… get outta here

You have a point he is pretty much just a boxer but who can take him to the ground. He has the best take down defense in the UFC and Wandy certainly is not going to be able to take him down and I really hope that isn’t part of his game plan. Randy’s prediction is Wandi and in most cases he is right but I think this is to hard of a fight to call witch is why it’s so sexy!

The odds are really close, but last I checked Machida was the favorite at minus 130 and Soko’s odds were even. This fight can go either way…if it goes to a decision, I think Machida takes it…..but I dont know if he will be able to last 15 minutes, with a very hard hitting Soko with KO power in both hands and some Nasty Kicks.

On the other hand, Stephan Bonner was saying how Machida is a ghost, and when he fought him he couldnt even catch him. He also said that he doesnt think Machida has ever lost a round, which scares me…..But Soko is a very talented and experienced judoka who is well versed in submissions and defenses which might nullify Machida’s grappling. Soko will have the strength advantage, and I expect him to have a significant advantage in the clinch….How is Machidas clinch game Phil?

What scares me about Soko is I hope u Strikes smart and doesnt leave himself open because He doesnt fear Machida’s power. Everyone has a button behind there Jaw (with the exception of Hendo who is a freak) and if Machida hits that button with an accurate counterpunch, Soko will go down.

Overall, I think Soko is really strong Mentally, and is more then capable of finishing the fight in every way possible. Punches, kicks, elbows, knees, G n’ P, submissions, Judo throws….and a killer instinct (which I feel Machida lacks to a degree). If Soko fights under control he should be able to Finish the fight in impressive fashion, and become an instant mainstream UFC star, kind of like Houston Alexander did.

Soko is one of the few Pride fighters, with the exception of Wandy, Anderson, Rampage, hendo who trains the right way like most UFC fighters, with specialized private coaches, and a training camp dedictaed towards him. He will cut weight, and be cage savy. Soko is on the RISE!

If they can get to Brady and rattle him (easier said then done), and if Eli gets his head out off his ass and gets the ball to Plaxico (who should have been drafted by the Eagles instead of Cory Simon) and Shockey blays big, then the GIANTS may have a shot to pull off an upset. lets face it my mediocre Eagles, and the pathetic Ravens, almost knocked them off so it isnt impossible for the Giants to do sooo….

hehehehehe..I think Shockey is out of the line up. due to an injury. I think it happened like 2weeks ago. Big Blue is the last line of defense for all NFL against the Pat’s being undefeated. I would love it just see Brady laid out..(not seriously injured)..just for most of the game. Giants running game has to be insnyhc and Eli needs to put the ball in the right spot. chuck looks scared of him! i cant stand liddell, lets get him on the ground and then see how good he is! everybody is all over him and i dont really know y. all he can do is stand up and strike. now dont get me wrong he is very good at it but this is mma and he to me in my eyes isnt a very well rounded fighter

Lets get him to the ground? And who do you think is going to do that, when the KING of takedowns (Couture)couldn’t. Chuck is a dam good wrestler. He just uses it in a defencive way,so he can stay on his feet and do what he does best, KGTFO.

Could someone please explain to me how Chuck looks scared of Wendyla. I think you all who say that are a bunch of numb brains. I have a feeling that Chuck is going to catch silva KO him out or TKO. Either way if the Reff stops it to early I will pitch the biggest fit in the world.

To me he doesn’t look scared, but wandy does look more anxious to kick his ass. wandy by KO, hopefully in the third!

Exactaly John, you just don’t beat guys like Soko or Alexander by a decision. You have to finish them, or they will take you out.

You have a point he is pretty much just a boxer but who can take him to the ground.

Contradiction

Bro..I’m coping some Haze..some NewCastle Brown Ale..Buffalo Chicken Pizza ( with blue cheese on the side )..having a few buddies over..I’m starting the night with the Giants game at 8:15..then crusing into UFC79..I could’nt even right the last few days.. John. Ur right. Wandy will melt the Iceman…dude do you know how it would feel like when the bell is about tho ring..Oh my God..I wonder who will be the ref? for both main events.
It sucks that the PPV starts right around half time of the Giants/Patriots game. I’ll just have to record the game from 10pm on and watch it on the DVR right after the PPV. Can you imagine of the Giants pull of the upset?
VM..that is what I expect..the crazy shit is..I think around week 4 I was just glancing at the NFL schedule I saw The Giants/Pats as the last game and it fell on the UFC79..now with all this Pat’s record breaking undefeated season stuff..I’m a New Yorker I hope the Giants put Brady on his ass…and Eli has his best game ever. I’m Dvr’ing the Game and the fight..and one will lead me into the other…but I hope to God the Giants can pull this off. They shouldn’t lay down and just had Brady history..they will have to earn it. I can’t put my mind anywhere else other than 8:15 Kickoff..9:30 countdown..( why couldn’t this game be at 5pm?? )This shit makes me feel like a 9th grader in H.S.
I am an Eagles DIE HARD FAN, and I never thought I would see the day, that I would be rooting for Eli “the Adopted” Manning but that day will be this Saturday. Those damn Patriots kept us from becoming SuperBowl champs just a few years back, and that cocky a-hole Bellicek is a prick, I cant stand. I dont think I can bear seeing them make history. I will be praying for Strahan or Osi to BURY Brady.
This will be the only time I will ever say this and I feel dirty just thinking it…..but GO ELI!!!

Im an Eagles fan too. And we are not mediocre. I think were one of the teams that are “better than their record”. We played very close in like all of our games. Except for the 1st cowboys game. Also i thought Shockey was done for the season?

Not sure if this will be taken down.

Shockey has a broken leg. Out for the rest of the season.

Did u guys check out UFC all access wanderlei and see him doing his training while only breathing through a snorkle? I think he is ready to go 10 rounds….chuck is in trouble….Then again I wouldnt be surprised if chuck Ko’s him with a counterpunch.

I will be rooting for wandy and my gut tells me that an impoving, and evolving wanderlei beats a declining, predictable Liddell….but it could go either way. hopefully wandy wins so he can get on track to fighting Rampage again.

by john on Dec 28, 2007 4:11 PM EST reply actions

Are you even joking? I’d say we’re seeing some of the best take down defense in GSP and best in Chuck Lidell. Chuck doesn’t get taken down, and if he does he just gets right back up. He has a great stradegy, and is getting beaten recently by faster strikers. “Rampage punched the shit out of him”???? WTF there were like 5 punches thrown that fight, 2 that landed… get outta here

Well, I dont think it matters how many punches were landed, but how hard those 2 whole punches were.

Ive watched that fight in slow-motion many times, and Chuck gets hit hard. After Rampage walked off to do his howl, Chuck looked like a newborn baby surprised that he could hold his head up on his own.

There is no language that is best understood in the ufc-mma..than a punch..elbow..or knee in the face..and Wandy has his PHD in beating the crap out of fighters..Thiago Silva doesn´t speak a word of english and is undefeated..recently wooping Houston Alexander..What does speaking english got to do with fighting??? Wandy is thugged out Brazilian that wooped RamPage the lhw champ(2X)..who speaks english..and will beat on ur boy Chucky in 24hrs..when he is given the green light to attack…I find Wandy`s english always improving..5yrs ago he was speaking english likeThiago Silva.

I think Chuck has wanted to KO Silva alot longer than Silva has wanted to fight Chuck. I think Chuck is more focused on showing people he can KO Silva.
