MMA Quick Quote: Chuck "No Love" Norris is easily bored

"Watching UFC over the last 20 years, when fighters go to the ground, they have become so proficient in avoiding submissions so it becomes boring. Knockouts, not tapouts, is what we say."

-Martial arts "legend" and geriatric superstar Chuck Norris tells Tulsa World that his World Combat League (WCL) is designed to promote the team concept and eliminate slow-paced fights.

Submissions, submission defense, and ground fighting add a greater depth, strategy, and excitement to MMA. Best of luck to Chuck and his league; however, I doubt that I will tune in.

i love the ground game…if it’s fast passed and full of great technique….sanchez and diaz was an insanely exciting fight that was all over the ground….waiting around for knockouts can be boring as shit….case and point..liddell and jardine…they just walked around eachother for the whole 3 rounds landing some random shots…so the ground game can be very exciting…

That funny coming from Norris..he is a purple belt in BJJ under the Machado’s..even though he likes to walk around with his Blk belt on..the guy should have more respect for good ground work..by these MMA fighters..ex: Diego vs Nick Diaz..was a BJJ clinic..no one was submitted..but there were great submission attempts/defense. With the respect he has for the Machado’s I wouldn’t expect a statement like that from him.

OMG!!!!! I gave the WCL a chance and watched it twice. Please, I was so bored I never finished watching it either time. Chuck talks about knockouts, but there’s no elbows, no clinching, no Knees!! garbage. the ground is only boring when Koscheck is on top of someone.

He’s also just trying to promote his brand, so i wouldn’t really worry about it. Plus who can argue with Norris. i had to stop watching WCL because Cecils Peoples as a ref would be very one-sided against white competitors. just didn’t seem fair to me. Sure he’s a great guy, just didn’t like what i saw from him.

Mr. Norris is a little off the mark with these coments. Not only is the ground game an exciting compnent of MMA, but the UFC has not been around for 20 years. Mr. Norris what the hell are you watching? The first UFC event was in ’93. That Mr. Norris, is 14 years.

Just go back to running around talking about Huckabee. You two nut-jobs were made for eachother.

I personally love the ground game. I think the refs should be more active in a possible stall or stale mate position, but if someone is working a good game on the ground that is awesome.

Dana should have a shock device in the refs pocket and when the fight gets too boring he zaps him to stand the fighters up. That would be cool.

Chuck should just show reruns of Karate Kid or even better Contender where all the fights are hyped up and edited to make them look more exciting than they really are. He has always had more love for Hollywood than martial arts anyway…Isn’t that right “Walker Texas Ranger” Fricken GAY!

I seen it one time. I saw Danny Abbadi fight, and I think he actually won! I do remember one thing from that night. On Abaddi’s time was this Puerto Rican fighter, I can’t remember his last name, but it was like Hernandez or Rodriguez or something. But anyways, this kid may have been the best stand up fighter I have ever seen. He was hopping all over the place pulling off the sickest kicks (better than Cung Li, but then again, Cung applies his to MMA and I have only watched him fight in MMA), and ever prettier combinations, PLUS he had KO power. Someone like Matt Serra or American Top Team should really jump all over this senstion. I highly doubt that there is any money in the WCL, and mma is the hottest thing since Baywatch among the male 16-40 year old demographic. (I made the last statement up, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was true). If he can add a ground game, or at least some good take down defense, he would be very entertaining to watch in the UFC.

Chuck is the man, but the WCL is simply unwatchable. I give them credit for trying to create a high action combat sport, but the WCL smply misses its mark. Out of like six episodes there were like 2 good fights. I really tried to like it but I just can’t for some reason.

UMMMM NO HE DOESNT!!! What an idiot. He just doesnt know what to lok for when it comes to the ground game. If you can understand submissions and how the fighter is trying to pull them off it is very interesting to watch how each fighter transitions from one move to the other whether its offense or defense. DUMB ASS CHUCK is probably just sitting there syaing “break his arm or leg already” HES A MORON. I love KO’s but ya gotta love a bad ass triangle choke attempt as the guy is elbowing him in the head. You know, I used to think Chuck was only a retard when it came to politics and religion, but now I realize that he’s a retard about pretty much everything.

When both people know what they’re doing on the ground, that’s when you get GOOD fights, as there will be constant transitions, reversals, and submission attempts. The ground game is only boring when you’ve got two mediocre guys on the ground, and they’re both lying there, not knowing how to defend from the position or mount any offense.

MMA without a ground game is like football without a running game. MMA without striking is grappling.

A mix of both is what makes MMA exciting.

I would prefer the following rule changes:
Eliminate “stand-ups” and “clinch breaks”. – If a fighter can control someone on the ground without passing or GNP, it should be the responsibility of the fighter on his back to improve his position.

Eliminate elbows. I liked the Pride rules minus knee/kick to downed opponent. Alot fewer fights stopped on cuts.

Sorry, I tried to sit through it. The editing was what really killed it for me. Camera replaying shots and slowing them down to make them look more intense. I felt like I had watched all of the Rocky sequels too many times. I got bored. I will have to look it up.

That is one thing I have appreciated about the TUF reality series. Even though it has sucked off and on at least there is no sharp editing to make a boring fight look better. If the fight sucks, it sucks.

Surprising statement from someone so well versed in the martial arts. Submissions attempts and defense can look boring to the casual fan. But when you see those attempts work, it catches your attention, thus you watch more MMA, thus learning more about the sport and you become able to understand the intricacies of attempt and defense. You’re off the mark, Chuck.

This is the best idea ever. Let Chuck put his money were his mouth is. Hell Do not even use the top guys. Use the b level guys, like Chris Leban, Nate Diaz, Kendall Grove, and Ed Herman. We need an injection of PRIDE!!!

i.e…kicks to the head of a downed opponent, people would be less content to lie on the ground then, and it makes the North South position "actually dangerous, as opposed to now where guys get that position, then just transition to side control….Boring

Koschecck isnt boring….. Sherk is boring!

They are both boring – albiet at different degrees. If Sherk added some ground and pound he would be a lot more exciting. He’s got energy at least, and keeps moving forward – something Koscheck doesn’t do much of. Still boring though, comparitively to most others with a good agressive ground game.
