EliteXC signs former UFC fighter Scott Smith to fight contract

Props: ProElite.com
Quoteworthy:
"Scott is definitely a standout at 185 pounds and a tremendous addition to the EliteXC and ProElite family. Talk about a highlight-reel fighter. All of Scott's fights are wars and he produced one of the most spectacular finishes to a fight in any sport about a year ago."
EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw comments on the "long-term" acquisition of former UFC middleweight fighter and contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4, Scott Smith. Of course, in the quote above Shaw is referring to "Hands of Stone" stopping Pete Sell via knockout in sensational fashion at the TUF 4 Finale in November 2006. Smith was cut from the UFC after a submission loss (rear naked choke) to Ed Herman at UFC 72: "Victory" in June 2007.

Nice pickup ELITE. His one victory in the UFC was from a lucky punch after he had been clobbered.

A rematch with Pete Sell would have been awesome

it might still happen if pete keeps windin up on the wrong side of these battles, and he’ll have to settle for XC

well at least i can see him fight on showtime, but he doesn’t belong in the ufc, iw ould say maybe wec or x elite he could get better

At least Scott Smith brings excitement with him whenever he steps into the octagon. That is more than most fighters in the current UFC MW roster can say!
I wish Scott the best in EliteXC. A fight between him and Robbie Lawler would be highly entertaining. And with one win in EliteXC under his belt, Smith just may get a shot at the belt.

Scott has the most electric finding ending shot vs Pete Sell..I’m a Scott Smith fan for life..even if he has no BJJ..the guy is a mma soldier.

the ufc should send these guys to wec instead of letting other promtions get them, if they keep losing in the wec than get rid of them.

This makes complete sense to me. I wonder why the UFC brass couldn’t think of it!

Pete Sell? the man who has 0 victories. Smith is an exciting fighter, not very technical but I would say he dishes out some clobbering and then will get beat technically. He is a much more exiting fighter than a lot out there.

Anybody know why UFC let him go? I mean if the guy was asking too much for what he was bringing to the UFC… maybe the UFC wasn’t willing to negociate.
There has to be 2 sides to this story.

What was he bringing to the UFC, exactly? He was a bottom level fighter with no apparent upside in the one division the UFC needs to have as much developing talent as possible.

PETE SELL WOULD NEVER BE A CONTENDER IN THE UFC. GO HOME.

Pete Sell is a ufc warrior..win or lose..he has heart..and he has a fighter’s spirit. Him never winning the ufc gold will not define his career. His fights will.

They can have this one punch wonder. What else has he done….ever? Put him on his back and he is like a fish out of water….lost and confused. I bet he gets paid more there though.

His fights will.
So him losing most of his fights, wont define his career, but his fights will?
Smith isnt a bad fighter… guy has the tools to be much better too. GL in EliteXC is what I say, they got a lot of good fighters scrapping with some decent named talent.
