“I’d love to call a Kimbo fight in the UFC. I think that’d be bad ass.”

— Joe Rogan

Gary Shaw and his son really need to step up and show they are for real.
Rofl, Rogan is great…

Kimbo’s got the athletic ability, thats for sure.

Kimbo’s fight against Bo Cantrell was a joke. There is really only one fight in ELiteXC that I’d like to see Kimbo in. That’s against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva. Also Paul Buentello, but he isn’t in EliteXC is he? I think he’s in Strikeforce and I saw him fight on that mixed promotion event they had.

Quick Question: Kimbo Slice vs Brock Lesnar – to find out, who is for real? Who would win.

I would see Brock Lesnar using his size and huge wrestling advantage to put Kimbo on his back and keep him there. I don’t think Kimbo would be able to get back up, and Lesnar would keep buisy. Lesnar wins by GnP. Even if Lesnar wanted to test his own standup and keep the fight standing for a few minutes, I don’t think Kimbo would be able to knock Brock right out. Sure he has the ability to, but Lesnar CAN take a shot. If it was a straight up kickboxing type fight, I’d pick Kimbo. But this is MMA and Brock would destroy him.

So in the end, I believe that the UFC signed the correct ‘freak show’ – simply meaning, signing someone with basically zero mma experience.

Tito and John Rallo feel Kimbo shouldn’t be getting all the exposure..I think Kimbo made a name for himself..I give him props..he seems to have a good work ethic..Bas is helping him out.. I would like to see him in the this coming year fight top level fighters..and see what happens..cuz truthfully he did mostly fight stiffs on those net flicks..Kimbo has a good story..and is a mma marketing dream come true..for the elite xc.

Kimbo Slice vs Bob Sap anyone??

by PhilQNY on Dec 12, 2007 9:45 AM EST reply actions

Kimbo would ass slam Sapp
We all know that Tito really needs to work on the brain to mouth thing.
Dont get me wrong, you put him in there against a world class fighter, dude wont look as good as he has, and will prolly lose. But fighting with Bas, learning.. he has the tools, just needs to apply them.

by Luppers on Dec 12, 2007 9:50 AM EST reply actions

I’d like to see Kimbo vs Tito. I think he could take Tito.

by GoColts on Dec 12, 2007 9:55 AM EST reply actions

I have a whole new perspective on Kimbo since seeing this… Respect..

by BustYoFace on Dec 12, 2007 10:03 AM EST reply actions

Kimbo isn’t top tier, as Tito suggests but he has all the tools and now the camp and training to move in that direction. The biggest problem is that EliteXC doesn’t have a lot of fighters that would match up well to Kimbo, provide an entertaining event and still lend credibility to Kimbo’s rise.

I’d really like to see him in the UFC but that won’t be happening anytime soon so I will just hope that EliteXC continues to put Kimbo in shows (next time with a game opponent) and tries to continue to build that weight class so to create competitive matches.

by pr0cs on Dec 12, 2007 10:04 AM EST reply actions

UFC is paying guys 11 grand and Elite XC can afford to pay Kimbo 100 G’s a fight? What?

by VNDK8 on Dec 12, 2007 10:04 AM EST reply actions

6 figures per fight for a record of 2-0? wow..that’s alot of money invested

I don’t like what Kimbo stands for, but I appreciate seeing the video.

by jess on Dec 12, 2007 10:15 AM EST reply actions

Does anyone else find it odd that Tito Ortiz of all people is suggesting that Kimbo is a one-dimensional fighter who can’t hang with the top fighters?

by pw on Dec 12, 2007 10:18 AM EST reply actions

He’s actually 1-0…..The Mercer fight was an exhibition fight.
With 1 fight of MMA experience, this guy has so much potential.
Why would he fight a top tier opponent now Tito?
When this guy gets more wins people will stop talking shit.
They’re all jealous of his quick stardom & the money he’s getting paid.

“Gimme my bread”….

kimbo is just another tank abbott

by shorty on Dec 12, 2007 11:06 AM EST reply actions

ANYONE who says that Kimbo needs to be fighting top level competition already is COMPLETELY out of their mind. He has basically been training in MMA for LESS than 2 years. I dont care what his fist game is like, he has at least another two year learning curve of training and fighting guys who are on his level in terms of experience before stepping up to fighting guys who have had 10 plus years of wrestling or 6 plus years of BJJ.

Just because he has won a couple fights in MMA lets not lose focus here and start suggesting that he is some guy who is not truly being tested yet because at this current point a Purple belt in BJJ could probably beat him.

by Bizzarro Tommy on Dec 12, 2007 11:18 AM EST reply actions

Joe Rogan dropping F-bombs left and right on ESPN. Ahhh, gotta love the credibility of the UFC.

i see kimbo as a joke, anyone you look up vids of them street fighting bums will never be up to the task of taking of the compitition the ufc has to offer. but i do wanna see him get in there and get the hell beat outta him, just to shut up the people who actually think he can fight

I like Kimbo and I’m glad to see him getting paid good money.

I think we would all love to see Kimbo vs. Houston Alexander….. that would be a WAR!!!

by Andrew on Dec 12, 2007 12:29 PM EST reply actions

I think he deserves whatever money he is getting. he has a gift to knock people out, that is what these sports are all about. no matter how much we appreciate the well rounded mma athelete, we want to see someone gettin smoked when it comes down to it. he is trying to train hard and become a legit fighter. this is basically the american dream, you start from literally nothing, work your way to something based on sheer talent, and what appears to be good work ethic and some lucky connections. what’s not to like? just like with houston alexander, ko’s are popular. anyone that downs him is an idiot and a hater b/c you can never do anything like him and you are stuck in your dead end job w/no talent or motivation to change. he took his destiny in his own hands (literally) and made something out of himself, whether its hype or not, he has more than he ever would have dreamed a couple of years ago. Good for you Kimbo, keep your act together and do you. Houston v. Kimbo would be great, lets start pooling some money to make it happen…

by idunnonadda on Dec 12, 2007 12:45 PM EST reply actions

First off, Kimbo is an athlete, not even a prerequisite for MMA, the main prereques for mma is toughness and work ethic; being an athlete obviously helps. The guy showed that much in this feature, on looks alone, he looks tough. He hasn’t taken a major pounding physically as far as training goes, so as long as his conditioning improves along with his technique, I don’t know why he couldn’t be successful despite his age and late start, then again all these haters will jump on him when he loses, ALL fighters lose. Most heavy’s usually stand up and strike, this is his strength. The only drawback I see is that his promotion is banking on him, his only fight kinda looked like a sell-out, making me think the guy just took a dive, in an attempt to bolster Kimbo because if he had lost, that = -$$. As an objective observer I would like to see the guy in actual fights and see the real skills he’s worked on, only way to gain respect.

I can’t believe there a some ppl who won’t give Kimbo a shot. Just because he’s not a wrestler, kick boxer or a muay thai expert doesn’t mean he can’t compete in MMA. Everybody has to start somewhere. Kimbo got into it by wuppin ass in the streets. He’s now learning the MMA game and there are pple who say he’s a joke. He might be a little behind in the ground game, but he’s learning and he will be a force to recon with no matter what ppl have to say about him.

People saying kimbo has never taken a beating obviously haven’t seen his bare knuckle stuff. Those fights were long and brutal.

Granted, none of them involved BJJ or any wresting, but the guy can take a punch (and a lot of ‘em). I’d love to see this guy take on some top guys, after a few more years of real MMA training.

Kimbo has a lot of buzz from his internet fights, so he is force in the sense that he can help sell PPV’s. As far as being an MMA heavyweight force, I don’t see it happening. He’ll fight cans, make some money, and sell some PPV’s, but the odds of him becoming a top 10 heavyweight are pretty low.

Accually he did fight a BJJ guy, was not any good though but he lost to Sean Gannon, thats how Gannon got to fight in the UFC, and he got beat down……..

by Sucio on Dec 12, 2007 2:31 PM EST reply actions

Whether Kimbo becomes a top fighter is up to him. Training with Bas is a good start. He needs to learn wrestling and BJJ like it was second nature. He needs to live on the mat for a few years.

by Landowner on Dec 12, 2007 3:44 PM EST reply actions

Holy shit…for that price, I would tell Dana to kiss my ass after not wiping. Kimbo is getting paid alot of soda cans to be there. Unfortunatly for the UFC, Xyience does not uses soda cans.

You make a good point.. however smarter hvwys will take it to the ground and try to keep Kimbo there… I hope Kimbo has been working dilligently on his ground game… we all know what happened to Houston Alexandar..

I’ve always said Kimbo had the right stuff and fans were saying he’s not the real deal just because he hasn’t fought anyone worth a damn… Hey’ you gotta’ start somewhere! In another year or two with the right training in wrestling and JuJu he could be a true top #10 contender, if he doesn’t train there, he’ll just be another flash in the pan like Houston.

by THORAZINE on Dec 12, 2007 3:50 PM EST reply actions

I think Kimbo is too old to ever become a contender, but with his work ethic, he has the potential to at least get one fight in the UFC. He might not win, but I don’t think you’ll see Kimbo in a boring fight. Kimbo is just a fighter at heart. He’s like the anti-Joe Scarola. You can’t teach heart.

PhilQNY: Great minds think alike, I have been wanting to see Kimbo vs. Bob Sapp for sometime now. Kimbo should go to Japan, they would love him there, just like they love Sapp!

How good can really be? Not much I reckon. I mean Sean Gannon beat him in a bareknuckle street fight. Gannon got demolished by Brandon Lee Hinkle so you’ve got to say that Tito is probably right. Any heavyweight in the UFC would probably beat him. Yes, including Eddie Sanchez!!!

ANd he took Kimbo under his wing and is training him.

Bass doesn’t really specialize in BJJ but i think more on sub wrestling and of course kickboxing, bass is a legendary teacher like Randy C.

ok first off, that Gannon fight was suppose to be like all his other internet fights(no choking). And second, Kimbo ran out of gas.Being he is now training for mma and conditioning is prolly ten time better.those guys fought for like ten or fifteen minutes straight.i think Kimbo will prolly have a good career in mma.i hope to see him fight a big name or in the ufc one day

You people need to understand that its not only about how “Gifted” or how “talented” he is, BUT also how “Marketebale” he is. “How can we boost the PPV sales” and “Which fighter puts more asses in our seats”. Kimbo Slice carries a huge image that most MMA fans love. A “Bad Ass” Image. My opinion, put his ass in the UFC and let him work his way up. Hell get way more exposure and more $$ in the long run. Period.

“Tito and John Rallo feel Kimbo shouldn’t be getting all the exposure”. Ok, Tito has the right to talk shit because he has fought! This Rallo guy on the other hand his a complete joke. Just because your town is in the darkages when in comes to mma, you shouldn’t lie about your record so your little jockriders hang on a little tighter. If you don’t believe me, go to www.groundcontrolbaltimore.com and look at his so called record. Than google the Baltimore suns website and look at all the stories they have done on this guy. If is like Baltimores little dirty secret that no one wants to report or believe. Full contact fighter has him at 1-0 pro and 0-1 am. Sherdog has him at 1-0 pro. His school sites says 5-0, sometimes 6-0 or 8-0.
