Report: Vitor Belfort to meet with Joe Silva about possible UFC return

Props: Sherdog.com
Quoteworthy:
"I want to rip [Tito Ortiz'] big head off. The last time I had a back problem, and he just laid on top of me with a broken nose bleeding all over me and I tired in the last round.... I'm willing to fight him winner take all, the loser gets nothing. He's a millionaire, he doesn't need money -- he has to have pride."
Former UFC light heavyweight fighter Vitor Belfort -- displeased with the treatment he received from the Cage Rage promotion -- will be in Las Vegas, Nevada, tomorrow to meet with UFC matchmaker Joe Silva about a possible return to the Octagon. "The Phenom" sports wins over notables such as Randy Couture and Wanderlei Silva, among others. He has been victorious in his last two appearances.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him back, but not against Tito.
I agree that Jardine would make for a good opponent.

Vitor is sadly mistaken if he thinks Tito will fight for pride. He’s an arrogant, egotistical money-grubbing man-whore. He demanded a fight with Dana White of all people and then backed out when it was actually going to happen. He refused to give Rashad a rematch after he figured out he couldn’t beat Rashad in a fair fight. Tito only wants to put himself in situations where there is little to no risk of loss to his reputation that he’s been coasting on for the last five years.

Can hardly count the win over Randy, was a poke to the eye and he got ruined in the rematch.

firstly it was not a poke the inside of the glove tore his eyelid if you must talk crap get it right and a win is a win

I completely agree! Well said.
I think Vitor has been washed up for years now, but anyone who is dying to rip Tito’s head off in my book is cool with me. I would only want to see him back if it against Tito…
Joe silva…Get-r-done.
UFCMania….u better stop being stingy with the assists, I posted this news a couple of hours ago buddy..lol

Bruce has it in one. Belfort can’t come back without a good fight, none of this ‘lets put Belfort against someone he’s gunna walk through’. To see if he still has what it takes, jardine is the only person (At the moment) who would be an ideal fighter. Rampage v Griffin, W Silva v Chuck, Hendersons fighting at middle against Anderson Silva. Jardine to fight Belfort. Get it on.

It seems like there are a lot of guys calling Tito out right now. Didn’t Shogun state that he thought Tito would make a great opponent? Whether you consider Tito to be an A level fighter, B level, washed up, whatever, he clearly has some big money fights on the horizon that could make Dana a lot of money. Like him or not, Tito has made himself relevant and a solid draw for any PPV.

Vitor is just another one of those guys that time has passed by. He is a shell of the fighter that he used to be and I still do not doubt that he was a steroid user back then too, like everyone else. I much prefer watching a Titty Ortiz vs. “Shogun”.

Not only was he strung out on roids, he also used to cheat (i.e. his eye poke to Randy). Bringing a guy like that back to the UFC can only spell trouble, even if he isn’t really a hasbeen which remains to be seen.
Still, I would like to see him kick Jardine’s ass.

I guess not doing a good job keeping track of this sport.
In my defense mmamania.com had no mention of it in Dana’s page or Tito’s. It looks like it was some joke boxing match. Dana is still crazy to want to get in the ring with Tito.
by Landowner on Dec 11, 2007 2:23 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Vitor was the shit and if not for his small gas tank wouldve beat most people hes fought if not all. Vitor vs Shogun would be a great match as well as vitor vs Jardine or Vitor vs thiago silva, last but not least i wouldnt mind seeing vitor vs Houston if vitor still has his hand speed we could see houston being knocked the fuck out in his own area ‘stand up’.
by David on Dec 11, 2007 2:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Tito knows that fight, he lost. Vitor ripped off Eastman’s head (in a lot more devastating fashion than Rampage), he went the distance with Henderson, Sakurabi, and Liddell, and completely 100% destroyed Wand. Silva (in 44 sec.)!! Why the fuck shouldn’t he be in the UFC?

Dana used to be a boxing coach and Tito’s personal manager before the UFC. I am not saying he would have won, but it would have been intersting and I would have given him a shot.

Im sorry, but I have not seen Vitor Belfort since his tragic family accident.
Vitor has not had a real solid fight in a long time, and he looks terrible now.
Maybe a Tito/Vitor rematch would be nice, and I am all for Vitor coming back, but he has not had any exciting fights probably before the Super Saturday show.

Not to mention he is healthy now, and full of life again. He’s had a rough go, but he’s back in the winners circle. He also has wins over Southworth, and H. Herring. Ask Rampages coach who has the fastest and hardest hands in mma and he’ll tell you Belfort. He can bang with the best, AND mike Tyson will tell you the same.

The thing Vitor has is definate name recognition. Under 30? Wow, I didn’t know that. He could still regroup and make a solid charge. ALL of the current UFC champs are over 30 (except Rampage).

Maybe give Vitor a setup match on Feb 2, then vs Tito on May 3. It is rumored that Tito will fight on that card, Cinco De Mayo, etc… or even vs. Lyoto. I still however would like to see Shogun vs. Tito. The winner will move up in ranks, and the loser is pretty much done.

Man, he used to be my favorite fighter. Looking back now, it seems he propably was on steroids. He was so damn hyper-aggresive. Like a speeded up houston alexander. Somehow if he can get that back, I don;t know, maybe a sponsorship deal with redbull. And then just drink like five redbulls before a fight he could come out and kill Tito. I still think he won that fight with tito.

Vitor is only explosive for the 1st round if he’s standing. After that he’ll gas out, lose his speed and heart. He’s also a conceded prick to the fans at times… so I’ve heard… I don’t think he has what it takes to make a successful climb up the UFC ladder, however he’s a possible spoiler because he’s so intially explosive that he could catch anyone and knock them out.
I for one am not a fan of, Vitor “GAs OUt” Belfort.

Vitor Belfort’s last notable win was just about 4 years ago, and it was a very questionable win at that. I am literally sitting here LAUGHING MY ASS OFF because someone said that Vitor Belfort is the man because he hold a win over Bobby Southworth. LOLOLOLOLOL. Southworth is a joke with a record barely over 500 fighting complete scrubs. I still can’t believe that Southworth had a fight in PRIDE. Maybe Rampage backed out of the fight last minute due to injury and they plugged Southworth in hoping most of the fans over there wouldn’t even tell the difference.
Mike Tyson said what? It doeesnt matter what Mike Tyson says. If you offer Mike Tyson $2, he will say anything, and let you quote him. That is, as long as you can understand what he says and it makes sense.

vitor used to be my favorite fighter by far and you can’t really blame him for going downhill (his sister was kidnapped and presumably killed by drug dealers for the few who don’t know) but he looked just alright in the serati fight and all he did in the zikic fight was lay and pray. i don’t think the ufc will even consider him if they’ve seen his last fight.
by ActionJackson on Dec 11, 2007 4:03 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Don’t worry about the Silva Vitor fight. It was over in about 26 seconds. Silva came in with a looping wide open shot, and the vitor punched his face all the way across the cage and Silva fell over and vitor punching him until the ref could run over and stop it. Not exactly one of Wanderlie’s more glamourous moments.

Yeah, like a Vitor Belfort vs Tank Abbott main event that will only be ordered at the biker bar. Or how about Vitor Belfort vs Pedro Rizzo – that’s a blockbuster fight for 2007!(sarcasm)
The UFC LHW division is already stacked with talent, and a bunch of gatekeepers, and even a handful of scrubs. The UFC does not need or want Vitor. Vitor needs money, therefore, he needs the UFC.

Man, there’s never anything wrong with a bit more talent.
I’d be excited as all hell to see Vitor back.
Although after he went to England to fight for Cage Rage whilst suspended in the states, I get the feeling that the US athletic commissions are going to be somewhat pissed off at him.
Which might strain the relationship between the athletic commissions and the UFC if they were to re-sign him.
Dilemma.

Tito would beat the crap out of Vitor. Vitor was hot shit in the early day of the UFC. When guys like Scott Ferozo and Tank Abbott were big shots. Then the talent level went WAY up and other than a win over a very young Wanderlei Silva he hasn’t done anything. Tito whipped him once and he would do it again.
I don’t even like Tito that much but you guys hate him so much it makes me want to defend him.

The only thing he did was kick him in the ribs… And that was while Chuck was punching him in the face…Yeah he knock Chuck down, but he wasn’t hurt, and Chuck dropped Jardine to a knee. Don’t take the fight. “He was laying on me and bleeding all over me.” Try getting out from underneath, stupid. “I tired in the last round.” Are you for f***ing real? Hey ortizbaby, Belfor(T) is most def the better fighter, we’ll just see who has better night. The Iceman could’nt finish Belfort, and look what he did to ortiz (twice). Tito should start small with Bisping. All those guys are with/around Rashad’s level.

You have my permission to slap your English teacher.
Seriously though, I think both fighters are at the same level, and for either side to claim they would run over the other is likely mistaken.
PS When exactly in 08 is your baby w/ Tito due?
next year he will have to change his name to ortiz!!!09 when tito does not come through in 08

Im not sure how much Vitor has left in the tank. I wouldnt mind finding out. With his hand speed and power combined, that still makes him dangerous. He might gas out quick but in that first round he could give us a scare. Fuck it. Put him in there with Houston and let the Fireworks fly. You know someone would get KTFO!!!

hey…kman….if the iceman couldn’t finish this bum then i dont know what to tell you….tito already beat this bum…NEXT…and if he wants a rematch he will have to earn it,this man is a wast of time for tito to beat up again tito is going to get the right fights to get that title back by the end of 08,you tito haters are just gonna have to deal with it TITO IS HERE TO STAY!Hey ortizbaby, Belfor(T) is most def the better fighter, we’ll just see who has better night. The Iceman could’nt finish Belfort, and look what he did to ortiz (twice). Tito should start small with Bisping. All those guys are with/around Rashad’s level.

YES. a rematch against TITO is IDEAL. Both fighters have lost their ranks among the top level competition. The are in the same boat right now, let’s see the fight.

vitor used to be my favorite fighter by far and you can’t really blame him for going downhill (his sister was kidnapped and presumably killed by drug dealers for the few who don’t know) but he looked just alright in the serati fight and all he did in the zikic fight was lay and pray. i don’t think the ufc will even consider him if they’ve seen his last fight.
Well against Zikic he had a broken left hand…so obviously couldnt bang and took it to the ground! He destroyed Serati (who to be honest is a unknown fighter but was a bigger and stronger fighter)…I think Tito is the perfect return and re-match for Vitor…he got robbed the 1st time and he badly wants Tito which shows the fighter he is! You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErJlcLQMj5o
Also everyone talking smack how Sakuraba battered Vitor must know why…Vitor dominated him at the start with vicious strikes…but broke his hand/hands so tried to get Sakuraba into his guard and dropping down…but yeh Sakuraba took full advantahe of this and punished him! War Vitor!

People only remember the last real big fight for Vitor.(Tito) and yes it was a close fight. I would like to see anyone else try to fight at the highest level, while one of their family members are missing, or with a broken hand. It is too soon to say that Vitor is washed up. Can you remember who was the last fighter to beat Randy other than Chuck? It was Vitor & you can say that it was stopped to early, or on purpose… “bullshit” a cut is a cut! Maybe he’s not on the level of RAMPAGE anymore but who is? I think Vitor is what the 205 class needs. It would be a lot better than seeing Bisbing fight, well… ANYONE. He is still a fan favorite. At least to the Elite fan!!! Not fans that just watch PPV events.

Belfor back in the octagon would be a good idea! the fact that he’s still young would make a lot of the light heavyweights scratch their heads…

I think he would have been one of the best, if all of that didn’t happen in his life (with his family).
