Pimp My Ride: Hughes, Serra receive contrasting parting gifts for being coaches on UFCs TUF 6

I guess it's better than a year's supply of Turtle Wax.

As per The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) tradition, each coach receives a four-wheeled parting gift for their time and effort on the show.

Matt Serra will be trolling the streets of Long Island in a pimped-out truck, while farmboy-and-proud-of-it Matt Hughes will be bitch-slapping some corn in his new John Deere 6430.

The UFC has a short video of the vehicle presentation.

Unfortunately Matt Serra is absent from the clip, presumably because of his injured back. No word yet if his new truck comes with a wheelchair lift.

yeah, i was gonna say.. thats a 60k tractor. Kinda cool Hughes got something he was gonna use versus. getting a vehicle that will end up on Ebay

This is the first time I respect Hughes more then Serra over something. If I see one more “pimped out” caddy or h2 I’m going to puke. Hughes’ tractor will also have better resale value. They go $58,000 used.

hughes deserves the tractor..by the way runs around 60 thous. or more, serra dont deserve nothing he just trying to hold on to the title as long as his punk ass can.

Hughes has a good wife, and he has his old fiddle,
And when the sun’s coming up he has cakes on the griddle,
And his life ain’t nothing but a funny funny riddle

I couldnt agree more. Serra is a one and done chump champ … I cant stand that A$$Hole … what.. 2 Hughes fighters made it to the finals….

Serra is too funny. I think even the UFC knows he is one and done.

Since his injury, they seemingly re-edited the TUF episodes to show less of him. He stopped posting his blog online with info after each episode, he wasnt at the finale, etc. Nice champ and coach.

His absence is pretty obvious.

I think its safe to assume everyone just figures the winner of Huges v. GSP is the champ.

Everone makes fun of Hughes for being a redneck hick farmboy, but I respect the fact that he’s staying true to himself. He doesn’t seem to care what people think. He’s pretty arrogant, but he seems to remember his roots. Not many people keep that perspective when they get a little fame.

Hughes definitely knew how to start and run that Tractor. I’m not really sure whether that is a crop planting tractor (seems a bit small) but a nice tractor non the less.

How can any of you respect Hughes after his comments at the TUF 6 Finale. What Kind of champion publicly admits that he took the fight with GSP because GSP usually needs 3 months training before a fight, and now he will only have one month to train. What a spineless chump. That was the worst statement to ever come out of a champions mouth. I dont really like Hughes, but after that statement I sure as hell do not respect him.

Washed up champion and the worst coach with the exception of Shamrock!

by john on Dec 10, 2007 11:29 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hughes can now retire from the UFC sooner.
He can run that tractor as that is all he will be able to do after GSP beats him up again.

I wonder if SERRA was absent due to his back injury or because he may be pissed at the way he is being treated by Dana…..with out much respect.

Spineless? First of all, Hughes didn’t have to take the fight with GSP. He is next in line for the title shot. He could have sat and waited for Serra. I actually apreciate his honesty. Who doesn’t look for an advantage when they fight someone? Sureal had a post on another thread that I completely agree with. Don’t fighters look to exploit weaknesses during fights? Going after cuts or injuries etc. This is part of the game. GSP didn’t have to take this fight. Hughes seems to think this will be an advantage for him. If he works it into his gameplan, more power to him. If GSP isn’t prepared it’s his own fault.

Come on man, I’ll give Hughes credit for helping Tommy get to the finals, but Danzig could have been alone on that show without a coach at all and made the finals in his sleep. IMO he had no business being on that show in the first place. He simply had too much experience going in.

Serra is clearly a better coach. Not saying he’s a better fighter, but coaching is a whole different ballgame.

I get it. Hughes and Speer are farmers.

We are reminded every other minute when watching any UFC program with either of these two “Hee-Haw” characters on the screen.

The best blogs on this post today :

“This is the first time I respect Hughes more then Serra over something. If I see one more “pimped out” caddy or h2 I’m going to puke. Hughes’ tractor will also have better resale value. They go $58,000 used."

(Pretty f-ing funny how he knows the re sale value)

“Serra is too funny. I think even the UFC knows he is one and done.

(Can there be a more true statement ?)

The UFC should not have given him a truck, he would be better sevred with a life time supply of Starbucks coffee because it is all he ever did on the show aside from mimicking Matt Hughes.

Matt Serra’s daily check list for TUF 6 Experience

1. Put on Team Serra cut off and flip flops
2. Purchase Starbucks
3. Perfect my coaching voice “You’re doing good, That’s it, Breatheeeeeeeee”
4. Impersonate Matt Hughes because I have small man syndrome
5. Sip coffee for camera
6. Breatheeeeee
7. Sip additional coffee
8. Call Hughes a dick
9. Sit in for TUF confessional and bash Hughes’ coaching
10. Sip coffee for eventual sponsorship
11. Tell one of his fighters to “breatheeeeee” for the 97th time.

I agree. And that’s exactly why I think the UFC put him on the show, so that the champion would have some legitimacy.

That’s what anonymous blogs are for. People can say whatever they want with no fear of repercussion except from some other anonymous blogger who has a different and wrong opinion. I’ll demonstrate. It is obvious to me just from reading your post that I quoted that you have deviant sexual tendencies. There, take that guy whose name I don’t know and who doesn’t know my name!

To bad that plan is going to backfire, GSP has been training since 2 weeks after he fought Kos. So that is easily 4 months of training.

Breatheeeee budddy breatheee you’re doing fine (sips coffee) … You’re allowed to foot stomp, nice and easy, gooooood

- Matt Serra

Everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame at some point. We all know that Serra is going to retire after GSP or Hughes rocks his monkey head. But at least he can join Rachel Ray in promoting Dunkin Donuts.
