'Special' announcement tonight during UFC The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale

the ultimate fighter tuf 7
From UFC.com:

"Watch the Ultimate Fighter Finale on Spike TV (9pm ET/PT) for a special announcement made by UFC President, Dana White."

We're not going to speculate on this one.

But there is some chatter that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin will be announced as the coaches for the next installment (season seven) of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) mixed martial arts reality series.

Feel free to comment on this rumor or provide your own conspiracy theories in the comments section below.

Forrest griffen is a great fighter but is he a good coach??

by matthew on Dec 8, 2007 1:14 PM EST reply actions

Well, after defeating Shogun griffin deserves it, but rampage will outwrestle him..

by shamo84 on Dec 8, 2007 1:16 PM EST reply actions

forrest is not ready for rampage. dont get me wront forrest is one of the top LHW but he still needs i more convincing win to get that title shot. rematch with jardine??

by kAiNOA on Dec 8, 2007 1:20 PM EST reply actions

Griffin deserves it, but i dont think he or rampage will be very good coaches. Rampage hates to train and forrest has a lot to learn.( Maybe he learned a lot from randy i dont know). But this is going to be a good fight for the fans if they fight at the end of the show.

by Wendell on Dec 8, 2007 1:23 PM EST reply actions

Dana White announced yesterday at Spike’s Video Game Awards (to be aired Sunday night) that Forrest and Rampage would be the coaches on TUF 7 and would fight each other following the season.

by Jestah on Dec 8, 2007 1:26 PM EST reply actions

being good coaches is really not the point.. i think, they only cares about tv audience and pay per view for rampage – griffin

by shamo84 on Dec 8, 2007 1:27 PM EST reply actions

Thats as fair as it gets for Forrest..Plus I think Rampage would be funny to see on the show.

by Royer on Dec 8, 2007 1:32 PM EST reply actions

I dont know i think rampage would suck on the show i think he would be boring

by matt on Dec 8, 2007 1:35 PM EST reply actions

It could have something to do with Couture or the CBS deal. Also, with HDNet getting into the picture, maybe HBO is rethinking their position?

by Muscle Dolphin on Dec 8, 2007 1:39 PM EST reply actions

Furthermore, it could be an announcement that the Penn/Stevenson fight is for the belt and that Sherk is stripped of the belt.

I dont know i think rampage would suck on the show i think he would be boring

rampage… boring? you kiddin right? he could turn out to be a terrible coach, but not boring. forrest is perdy funny too. like i said, the coaching/fights may be terrible but the show would be funny.

Well they’re obviously there to be personalities, not primarily as teachers. But Rampage could bring coaches from Juanito Ibarra’s camp, and Forrest can bring coaches from Xtreme Couture to help them out.

No current ufc champ..should be coach on tuf reality show..to hold up title defenses god forbid get injured after filming a la Matt Serra. I would hope ufc to want frequent title matches..not 2 a year.

True enough but Jardine beat Forrest and Liddell. I think he’d take Houston Alexander in a rematch. So I think it would be more fair (for what that’s worth) for Jardine to get a title shot.

But from a marketing perspective, Forrest and Rampage might help TUF ratings, which would set up a monster PPV main event for the two of them at season’s end.

by Jason on Dec 8, 2007 3:25 PM EST reply actions

Didn’t Dana learn his fucking lesson?

by slash on Dec 8, 2007 3:26 PM EST reply actions

It’s crazy isn’t it. Forrest earned his contract on TUF and now he could be a coach waiting for his titleshot!

by RobH86 on Dec 8, 2007 3:32 PM EST reply actions

Ratings are down for the last three seasons on TUF, with season 6 being the lowest. Dana has to right the ship and in order to do so has to bring some “star” power to rekindle interest in the show. Hopefully, neither of these guys asks his team to read the Bible, just stick with the fighting!

I think if these two are the coaches it should be interesting, especially the fight. I’m hoping Forrest drops Rampage like a sack a shit! Hoping!

by Ray on Dec 8, 2007 3:57 PM EST reply actions

i dont think forrest and rampage are gonna be seriouse coaches or any good .. but great for entertainment…i hope this wont delay the title defending like the welterweight show

by kickinthehead on Dec 8, 2007 3:57 PM EST reply actions

God I hope that isn’t it. Forrest didn’t earn anything, I keep saying it; anyone would have beat Shogun that night, he had no cardio… do you guys know what a good fighter looks like? It’s night and day watching Shogun strike normally, then watching him in his fight against Griffin. He gassed incredibly early, his ground game consisted of turtling, rolling, turtling again. Oh but that’s just because Griffin was so powerful right? You guys are high- Forrest didn’t prove anything that night except that Shogun can show up almost certain to get his ass kicked. Nobody understands what each victory in MMA really means- does Matt Serra have GSP’s number? Well, he beat GSP a thousand times more convincingly than Forrest beat Shogun. Let’s see Forrest beat the guys that Shogun beat, then I’ll put his name as high in the ranks as you guys do. Forrest should not be a coach- if he is, there is zero chance of me watching one episode of that season.

That sounds right. I more believe the rumor of Tito and Page coaching.Plus how long does this push the fight back to. Jesus Page should stop doing all that Sportscience BS and fight I mean come on. Plus he should smash Forrest and it seems like he will fight the winer of Wandy vs. Chuck.

by matt on Dec 8, 2007 5:00 PM EST reply actions

There is zero reason for forrest to fight rampage other then to see forrest get his ass handed to him….Shogun couldnt adjust to the octogon rules it was pretty clear also he didnt train hard for the match as was obvious. But either way if you think forrest is any kind of a match vs rampage your on some drugs or one of those hardcore UFC fans. Any and all MMA fans know forrest doesnt stand any chance none.

Forrest dont got the power to knock rampage out with a direct perfect hit to his jaw(at most he would stun him for .5 seconds which aint much).
Forrest dont got the wrestling skills to survive against rampage
Forrest doesnt have to chin to take a hit from rampage
Forrest dont got the skills to summit someone like rampage.

Rampage Will knock forrest out with 1 punch to da chin or near it.
Rampage Can take forrest down easly and pound him out.
Rampage can also slam him out something only rampage does.
Rampage style as is obvious by now fits the octogon just as good as it did in pride unlike shoguns.

Ratings are down because the fighters on the show have sucked recently. Dudes are comming on the show with l;ike a 2-0 record now. Some guys like Blake abd Cory Hill never even fought to my knowledge. I did hear that next season would be different and that we will be surprised at the caliber of the fighters and some will be familiar names.

I thnk Rampage will be a very effective coach. For starters, I guarentee Juanito will be on the show with him. Juannito is one of the best coaches in the game so who ever is on Rampage’s team will be in good hands for sure. Rampage will keep his fighters loose unlike Matt Hughes, who talked down to them and was very unsupportive which consequently led to his fighters being gun shy, and having mental breakdowns in the octagon (Berrara, Miles, J-roc just to name a few).

Forrest will probably have sean Tomkins and other extreme couture coaches so his fighters will be prepared also. I love the Coaches, and I hear that we will love the quality of fighter on next season. But why cant the show be a success without linking a fight between the coaches at the end of the season. I mean its not like they would fight each other on the Finale anyway. Dana would market a whole pay per view event around it, and I dont think he has to do that with a fight between Rampage and Forrest. Even the casual fan has to at least know that Rampage is the guy who finished Chuck Liuddell twice, and Forrest is the 1st Ultimate fighter, who put the sport on the map with his epic battle against Bonner. That alone is enough to market a fight between the 2. Waiting till the end of the season for these 2 to fight is so uneccessary, especially in this case.

Remeber the show is filmed way before it actually airs. So I dont think it wouuld hurt any ratings if they had them square off in a pay perview event in the middle of the season, say the week of episode 5. Its not like it woul spoil the finale or take anything away from the show. But waiting for a whole other season to be filmed and then aired before seeing Rampage back in the Octagon would just be Brutal!

I was not excited about them two coaching, but if they set it up that they go against each other at the end, that great!! But then again it will be a while for that to happen, like Serra (originally), one title defense in almost a year. Rampage is hurt anyway so might as well make him useful…Best quote by Rampage this week, “I put my ass in it” (tv show Sports Science on Fox Sports net, his right punch regsitered 1800lbs of force!!)

I like the idea of giving Griffin a title shot. He beat the guy who was considered the #1 205 lb. fighter in the world. It’s a great idea fot them to be on the show but I don’t want to wait 6 months before the LHW titlw to be on the line again. THe way I see it, there is 5 champions, so every title holder should have to defend their their title once every five months, pending injuries. Just like how Serra won the title in April, did the show and was set to defend in December. That’s way too long for fans to wait, especially when the welterwieght class is as stacked as it is. There’s guys like Jon Fitch who have racked up a bunch of wins in the octagon and deserve a title shot but won’t get one one for long time because of the delay caused by the show. Does anyone want the Light Heavyweight division to go throught the same thing? From the way it is looking the only two “real” titles that will be defended in the next few months are Anderson Silva’s Middleweight title and the vacant Heavywieght title. I don’t know about anyone else but I’m tired of buying PPV’s that don’t even have a title fight headlining the card. UFC 76 and 78 were terrible, although there were pivotal matchups in the LHW division at 78. The bottom line is there should be a title fight at every PPV and the reality show does nothing but extend a title holder’s reign.

I think with the whole sit-com thing, Rampage and Griffin should be able to provide the audince with a whole new side to these them-selves?..Work ethic, possible guest trainers(Ibarra), Of course entertainment, and a whole new setting?..Dana stated that “exciting” changes will be set in place to improve the show..so just to say, this is the season that fans from all aspects of MMA will be looking forward too…Hopefully!
