UFCs Chuck Liddell meets with 'performance coach' Tony Robbins

Props: BostonHerald.com
"I just got a call from Chuck Lidell. Chuck is finding himself in a position where he's famous, because his sport has grown in popularity so rapidly. All of a sudden you have a posse and you're going out to dinner before your fights and not working like you used to. He's not as hungry as when he made it. We're just starting the journey with him to find out what drives him."
"Tony Robbins -- famed performance coach, star of 'Shallow Hal' and fixture of late-night, infomercial television" -- talks about adding former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell to his list of clients. The "Iceman" is riding a two-fight losing streak and is set to battle Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79: "Nemesis" on December 29. For more on the Liddell-Robbins alliance click here.

Granted chuck is still a dangersou man but it happens in all sports to some individuals after they reach great success and notoriety— the loss of grit and drive….
Crocop comes to mind as well
I hope Chuck has got the drive for his upcoming fight

If you read tony robbins book he mentions Success erodes you when you are on the top..you will do less to keep yourself there (at the top) because of ego, drive etc…and there is nothing left to achieve. Its hard to stay on the top and do what you did to get you there because your not chasing anything so you need to retool your outlook and set new gols for yourself. I think that is what exactly happen to chuck. That and he lost to a better fighter. Jardine, as much as I like him, had no business winning that fight.

Yo, the Japanease fight card for the December 31 pay per view event is shaping out to be pretty good.
YARENNOKA: DECEMBER 31, 2007 IN SAITAMA, JAPAN
venue: Saitama Super Arena
-Gesias “JZ” Calvancante vs. Shinya Aoki
-Hayato “Mach” Sakurai vs. Hidehiko Hasegawa
-Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
-Fedor Emelianenko vs. TBA
-Joachim Hansen vs. TBA
-Aleksander Emelianenko vs. TBA
-Roman Zentsov vs. TBA
-Ricardo Arona vs. TBA
-Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. TBA
-Kazuo Misaki vs. TBA
-Luiz Azeredo vs. TBA
Thats shaping out to be like an old PRIDE card, I will definetly order this event on New Years eve.
I dont think Ricardo Arona is signed to the UFC, since he is rumored to be fighting on this card. There are some very exciting matches. Overall this is much better than UFC 79!

Plus…when Chuck was King, there was NOBODY in the LHW division to test him, he had beaten Randy/Babalu/Tito….he fell of his game because there was no-one to test him, no need for him to improve at that stage.
In the short space of time that has come since there have been some worthy additions to LHW… I think if they had come along before Chuck was KO’d by Rampage then he might have found more focus in time!

I really can’t stand Jack Black, so I haven’t seen the majority of his movies, but if Chuck really wanted to have a trainer that is affiliated with Jack Black, he should have looked towards a cast member from “Nacho Libre”.

And i think that if he can’t train of his own motivation then he obviously doesn’t want it as much as he makes out!
Knowing Chuck (Don’t actually know him mind) he probably will miss the fame more than actually fighting in thr UFC and being a Champ!

I don’t understand this move, I think that Chuck wants to win mentally. He just needs to learn to check kicks! I thought he was plenty aggressive against Jardine but he just wasnt defending kicks and all he did was punch. If he could improve those two things and add in a takedown here and there, he would be all set.

It’s a good move for Chuck. Maybe he does need a mental gain. His priority’s aren’t right anymore. His motivation does not have what it use to. Fighting Wandy is his niggest fight, so what if he has to go to exteme measures to get him-self together. It’s just his way of getting back into the game. Chuck might be able to pick things up again?..Maybe?..But i can see Wandy winning this one….

dude chuck lost 2 and GSP lost 1 , i dont understand ppls mentalities your tellihg me that if GSP losses to Hughes (which he will not) that he should retire, come on it would be the same scenario as Chuck lost to a good fighter in Jackson and suppose lost to hughes and lost to a bad fighter in Serra and JArdine, 2 losses does not make you a freaking bad fighter thats like saying diego sanchez is done, or bj penn was done after his 2 losses, or Crocop come on its just a set back but you will all see that tim robbins pays off and Liddell will KO silva and GSP will reign supreme cant wait just a few more weeks and im heading for vegas woowhooo

another fool, dude your telling me that Liddell is less of a fighter because he seeks help through a known motivational speaker (personally i dont like that stuff) but hell ppl are different how do you know that other fighters do weird stuff like this, what if GSP decides to speak with him so what man, that doesnt mean he isnt one of the best if not the best pound for pound fighter in the world and last year chuck was also one of the pound for pound best fighter had a set back and will find his way back up.

there is something fishy about Chuck last performance i trully believe that the Liddell vs Jackson fight would have gone to distance if it werent for that damn body shot that chuck threw followed by that beatyfull hook that rampage threw, not taking anything away from rampage i like the guy but, even he said he couldnt believe it ended in that matter he admitted that chuck made a mistake. now the jardine fight you could tell that chuck was different i watch the fights against randy and tito and babalu chuck comes out of the lockeroom freaking focused and hyped you can see those damn piercing eyes of ima knock someone out, all he needs is that fire again I dont think his skill is gone hes just going threw some stuff needs to shake it off and fire it up im going to that event in december and i gurantee you if chuck comes out smiling hooping and with that look he is gonna win but viceversa if he looks like with jardine kinda like whatever coming in to the ring

With the kind of shots that Chuck and Rampage throw, there is no way that fight goes 25 minutes. I didn’t expect it to end that quickly, but it was only a matter of time before somebody went to sleep. As for the Jardine fight, Chuck went in with his usual plan, and Jardine and Greg Jackson had a great plan to attack.

TOny Robbins is a bear of a man. His head is the size of a medecine ball. His ass is as big as a tractor. His teeth were touched by a fairy princess they say. He’s a relentless and shameless marketer.
But he’s coached a lot of champions though. Most people that have dominated their field seems like they’ve had some coaching from Robbins. Some people get a little carried away though. It could be just what Chuck needs.

I find most of people on the site talk out of their rears rather than considering peoples opinions and commenting intelligently. I dont see how Chuck is weak..Two hugh losses like that would mess anyone up. There is nothing wrong with mental coaching if anything it will give you an edge.
Anyone who has played any sport at a competitive level will agree. If not there would be no need for trainers and coaches, because one wouldn’t need advice and training..mental training is just as important as mental training. Sometimes you need an advice from an experienced eye. Noone was talking like this when Chuck was smashing people.
