Corey Hill (1-0) will make his Octagon debut against Joe Veres (4-2) at UFC Fight Night 12 on January 23. Ken Pavia -- the manager for Veres -- confirmed the booking in a recent post on the UnderGround Forum.
Hill has not competed since his stint on season five of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), losing to eventual 155-pound tournament winner Nate Diaz via submission (triangle choke) in the quarterfinals. Because of his on-screen personality, rawness and physical attributes (he's 6'4"), Hill is one of the more intriguing prospects to emerge from the TUF series.
And he only has one professional mixed martial arts fight to his credit (he fibbed his way onto the show, declaring that he has four wins against zero defeats). Remember, Hill was supposed to fight at TUF 5 Finale in June; however, he suffered a rib injury during that forced him off the card.
Veres actually fought on that same card (UFN 11) against Gray Maynard ... for less than 10 seconds. Nine, to be precise. The three-time NCAA Division II All-American from Ashland University never got the chance to demonstrate his wrestling skills — or anything else for that matter.
He'll look to change that against Hill during the SpikeTV special.
