Anderson Silva: 'It would be a great fight' with Wanderlei Silva

Props: Tatame.com
Quoteworthy:
"I am resolved with all my ex teammates. When I went out of Chute Boxe, I was clear ... If Wanderlei and I were in the same category, it would be natural, it would have to happen. But his I fighting at light heavyweights, despite that when we were at Pride, we were at the same category. At the moment, I am the champion in another category, the circumstances are others, so I can't see the chance that it happens. But I believe it would be a great fight."
UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva denies that there is a rift with his former ChuteBoxe training partner -- and current UFC light heavyweight contender -- Wanderlei Silva. "The Spider" admits, however, that he is not opposed to fighting the former Pride FC champion. In fact, he thinks it would be a great scrap. I tend to agree ... wishful thinking.

Anderson Silva is a badass! This would be an awesome fight, but someone will drop Silva sooner or later….it ALWAYS happens, its inevitible….a year ago, would anyone believe that Chuck would lose to Jardine?

I dunno who would win this fight.
Both are superior fighters.. I dunno this is a dream match though. Maybe if Wanderlei becomes a champion, and Anderson is still the champ, we will see Champion vs. Champion.

good fight for Anderson bad fight for Wandy :(
Anderson is just too accurate and will pick Wandy apart as he comes bum-rushing in with wide looping punches.

Silva said that he fought at Middleweight (Light-Heavyweight) at Pride. I think if this fight ever came to fruition that The Spider has one hell of a chance to win, another dream fight!

Way to state the obvious bud. Good joke Nathan.
The middle weight division is thin as a stripper’s g-string. Is there a reason why the UFC doesn’t put on more catch weight fights? I’m all for fighters in there respective divisions being ranked and earning their shot. But think of the kind of card where an Anderson Silva vs. Wandi fighting at 195 would be?
How about St. Pierre vs. Rich Franklin at 177.5?
Vera vs. Liddell at 215?
And the list can go on..and on..and on…

wow your choices are horrible vera vs liddel u have to be kidding me lol

I dont think anyone can comment on this fight until we see Wanderlei on New Years. Depends how he comes out after a long rest to make judgements on their current form.
The Spida wins all of his fights before he enters the octagon. He intimidates everyone he fights. This is one thing he would NOT have over Wanderlei.
Would love to see it.

PS Dana White should give Anderson a crack at Rampage – be nice to see how the Spida goes

The fact that Silva has to start looking around for top opponents in other weight classes (Hughes, Wanderlei) is amazing. Until someone at least makes it to a decision against him, all that need be said is (ala Bruce Buffer):
Annnndersonnnnn SILLLLLLllllllvaaaaaaaaa

sounds like a bad match for the spider, common sense says the axe murderer finishes it quick – the clinch wont work here, strength will

Quite right, The Spider is awsome but someone will come along soon enough and make him look human just like it happened to Belfort, Tito, Arlovski, Chuck etc.
Think like others tho that Anderson would out strike Wandy in the battle of the Silva’s.

this is why i think Liddell will beat Wady. Wandy will rush in and Chuck will catch him. That’s how Chuck wins almost all his fights. he waits for his opponent to charge at him. Notice how rampage and jardine were more defensive. at one point in the rampage fight, rampage actually had to signal to liddell to fight, as liddell was just waiting for rampage to charge at him.

..I don’t see them fighting eachother even if both were champions of their divisions..if they were both fighting in the same weight..and both the number 1 and 2 guy..then yeah.I can see it.

Would this fight really happen even if Wanderlai Silva lost to Liddell? He would then have 3 straight losses , while Anderson Silva has more than enough consecutive wins as a champion.

Anderson -Accuracy
I think Anderson has the ko power as well. Maybe not as much as Wandy, but I think Anderson power behind is accuracy would win him the fight. Thosd big looping punches just leave to much opportunity, for Anderson. I think the same scenario will hold true in the Liddell-Silva fight. As long as neither Anderson or Liddell get sloppy and keep their guard up, I think their styles have the upper hand.

I think Anderson maybe the only fighter that could legitmatly cut through the 170#(with the exception of possible difficulty with GSP) and the majority of the 205# class. I could see it now, “Anderson Silva the Greatest middle, welter, and Light Heavyweight Champion of the World!” Wow, go Spider!

If he goes a few more fights without a defeat then it would be in Dana’s best interest to make fights at catch-weights or nudge Silva to move up a weight class (something I think he would maybe struggle at due to his build)……
Wishful….wishful thinkin but what a fight Silva vs Silva would be.

Wanderlei has been training with Couture, and I am sure Randy has talked to wanderlei about that. Randy is the man with the master game plan, and Silva comming off of 2 losses, will fight a more controlled fight, picking and choosing when to explode on Liddell’s ass. If wandy cateches chuck in that Tai clinch….. Night Night Iceman!

I am a huge anderson silva fan. I believe he would do great at 170 but 205 not to sure how good his chin is, and at 205 we would find out how good that chin of his really is !
by jb125 on Nov 28, 2007 10:27 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
he has to get by dan the man first which wont be easy at all!!!!!! However i agree that strength would play a big part, however anderson is so accurate with his strikes its scary, would be fun to see tho!!

Damn…I miss PRIDE Fc: I miss the educated Japanease audience in contrast to us ignorant American who boo fighters if they stand still for 2 seconds. I miss the opening ceramonies, I miss the soccer Kicks, flying head stomps, the crazy announcers (the kool ass Japanease dude with the shades, Mohawk and shinny suites, and the crazy Japanease lady who sounds like a witch while announcing. I miss the tournaments. I miss 10 minute round. I miss the scoring system (judging the fight as a whole, instead of like boxing). Damn I miss the hell out of PRIDE.
Ok sorry guys, I am back now…. Just a bad case of nostalgia

Easy win for A. Silva. Wild strikers like W. Silva are fodder for Anderson. I read a stat that A. Silva averages a 70% strike completion percentage per fight. Most MMA fighters average about 35%. All fighters against Silva average 24%.
In short, he doesn’t get hit and hits his opponent more often than not. Bad matchup for Wandy, and a short striker is the last guy who can beat Anderson. Look at how much trouble Wandy had getting inside the reach of Chuck. This is double trouble b/c Anderson adds the clinch, knees and kicks to that equation, whereas Chuck is mostly a puncher now.
