Randy Couture and Dana White to have dinner on Tuesday Nov. 20 (Audio)

Props: Mr.Sunshine
UFC President Dana White today revealed that he'll sit down with Randy Couture this Tuesday, November 20, "in one final effort to find a resolution to their month-long squabble." The face-to-face meeting was set-up via text message after the UFC recently offered Couture a title defense against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. "The Natural" remains the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion despite his recent resignation. Let's see how long that lasts. For more on this head over to FOXSports.com. Note: White also indicated that if Couture is eventually stripped that Nogueira would face former champion Tim Sylvia for the vacant belt.

“in one final effort” … doesn’t exactly sound like he’s going into it with a ‘fans first’ state of mind.

I say Kongo vs. Big Nog for the belt (if RC says no). Much more entertaining fight.

I hope this gets resolved. I actually think Randy is at fault here. If he thought his contract sucked, he should not have signed it. He needs to man up and finish his fights that are left, THEN he can piss and moan if they don’t give him what he wants. I do think that given what Randy has done for the UFC, they should have offered him some large bonuses for winning his fights, but when it comes to the contract, he can’t really blame anyone but himself.

DW: How come you won’t even talk to me any more?
RC: It’s not you, it’s me. I just feel like we’ve grown apart, that’s all.
DW: But I’ve been working all day to make this nice dinner just for you.
RC: It’s not that I don’t love you . . .

RC: . . . I think it’s best that we move on.
DW: What are you saying?
RC: I think we should see other people.
DW: No Randy, you can’t just run away when things get rough.
RC: I have lots of actors and directors I want to see. I can’t be tied down with you right now.
DW: but we have so much history together.
RC: Come on, Dana you’re a great guy. There’s lots of great fighters who would love to sign with you.
DW: You mean it?
RC: Of course I do.
DW: Thanks Randy. You’ll always have a special place in my heart.

PW, is this your application to become a soap opera writer since the SWGA is on strike?
Randy needs to stop acting like a Hollywood Whiner and Complainer and realize that he happily signed the deal and lyed to us about how much money he recieved from the UFC, and Dana needs to man up and get it done NO MATTER WHAT.

Randy wouldn’t be coming back to the table if he thought he was right – he’d go off and fight Fedor in 8 months or retire and make movies. He knows he messed up and he KNOWS he lost TONS of fans over all this so he’s crawling back to the company that gave him the ability to make millions off his own name (and rightly so). Next time take the high-road, Randy! It’s not very hard when you’re standing next to Dana – jeez.

Actually, my college advisor won a few daytime Emmys for his writing on some soap opera. I forget which one, but I could probably do that if my oh so interesting and lucrative (sarcasm) internet marketing writing career doesn’t pan out.

A cross promotion bout is still not out of the question. M-1 would do it. UFC sent Chuck off to the Pride GP so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility. If it happens it will be in the ring I reckon. If Randy does comeback I think he’ll first fight Nog. If things work out well for him then the Fedor fight may still happen. Maybe, just maybe!

i found this on josh barnett, this is what he said:
Let’s get straight to it and say that Randy did a phenomenal job at UFC 74 in defending his title. As a fan and a fellow Washingtonian I was happy to see him win. But as for the title itself — it still sits in my house. No one in UFC ever beat me for it, and as far as I am concerned, no one in the UFC can be the heavyweight champion until they take that belt off of me in the cage.
At the post fight press conference, Dana White said “there isn’t anyone in the world that can beat this guy” in reference to Randy. All this because Randy beat a guy that had less than ten fights and only one noteworthy win? That’s not even a world championship level fight, let alone reason to proclaim the winner as “unbeatable”. This comment was made even more ridiculous by the fact that I was standing right there, living proof that Randy Couture is definitely beatable.
“Unbeatable”, Dana says. If he actually believes that, I’m more than willing to step into the cage and prove him wrong. It wouldn’t even have to be for the belt. I already got the real belt. They can keep their pile of brass they purport as the UFC Heavyweight Title and put it on their next paper champ.

What!? Randy’s willingness to sit down with Dana is not an admission of fault. See even when Randy tries to do the right thing you still aren’t happy.
All the fans who turned on Randy weren’t really fans. You expect Randy to never make a mistake in his career? If this is the worst he can do and it took him this long in his career to make this error in judgement, then I would take that over Tito’s or Dana’s Shenanigans.
Anyone who really would take Dana’s word over Randy’s is not a good judge of character. What Randy made a stand for on principle was good, how he chose to articulate his case was lacking. Either way, I still believe he is still the man we have been cheering for since he enter the octagon.
Anyone willing to bash his character over this one incident instead of what he has achieved over the span of his career is simply drinking hater-aid.

I agree with you on this and also disagree with you… Randy’s principles were in the right place… however he’d didn’t question things all the way through, in this world you can’t get by on principle alone… you have to have the facts to back him up he made several big errors which led to him losing some of his credibility, he should have talked to Dana when he came back from filiming and had his facts and figures correct before he made a public statement.
I’m still a Couture fan and I think the best way to work this out is to bring a Huge double championship FIGHT CARD and awesome undercards for the next 2 Couture fights.. this way he Couture gets his PPV % escalated $$$$ wise and the UFC gets big $$$$… a big UFC championship event has a way of keeping things progressing and putting the BS behind.

As Serra would say Couture should have an order of “humble pie” for dessert. Couture could have made himself look so much better if he got his facts and figures straight and met again with Dana after he got back from filming before he did his press conference.. I’m all for playing hardball when negotiating, but did it because he gave us mis-information…Couture F’’’d up… he really needs the UFC even more after this, so much of his status is built around it.

What did Couture lie about? You mean all of a sudden Couture just started lying?!! I think he had legit complaint that he FELT was warranted. If you are telling me you believe Dana over Couture the I have to scratch my head about that. Dana has mastered lying. Do we need post how many things Dana has said that were false? I believe there is a lot we still don’t know and that Dana presented his case better. That doesn’t mean Dana wasn’t lying.

I agree with you about the principles concept. I also mentioned that he didn’t articulate his case very well which is what you are pointing out as well so I see us in agreement there also.
I also believe that there is an explanation for why he set up his defense the way he did, namingly, he is not as skilled as the Fertittas and Dana (but mostly the Fertittas). It appears the he felt the need to speak out against Kevin Iole who made Couture out to be making more money than he was thus discrediting Couture’s claim. Notice that is how he started out the press conference. He also addressed the tacky Dana comments about his agent which also made Couture look bad. Couture decided to rebut that because that was disrespectful and Couture was tired of all the disrespect and that was a perfect example of Dana’s inherent shadyness so he used it as part of his platform to build his “swimming up stream” claim. I see an honest guy who fought the way he knew how, whether it was polished or not, and he hoped his statements would be measured up against his reputation which at this point wasn’t that of a Whiner, that is Tito’s gig. To this day Tito deals directly with the Fertittas and not Dana.
Bottomline— At the risk of looking bad Couture spoke out and he learned a valuable lesson from it but so did Dana I hope.

Dana White stands to make alot more money from a cross promoted Couture vs. Fedor fight than one where Couture goes out on his own. Plus if Randy wins then the UFC looks even stronger. I think both sides are starting to realize it will work better together than apart.

Thorazine: I really like your idea, I hope Dana and Randy think about it the same way as you do, because that would be a win/win for both Dana and Randy.
I hope that Randy defends and looses his title soon because I do not think that Dana would do the cross promotional thing and have Fedor fight Randy while Randy still holds the belt. It would just look to bad if the UFC’s heavyweight champion gets destroyed. But if Randy doesnt have the title, I think there will be a better chance of Dana letting M-1 send Fedor over for a fight against the Natural. Especially a big Farewell to Randy. They can promote it powerfully: Randy’s last fight vs. Fedor……It would shatter all records of sales! Lets face it Randy is gonna fight Fedor sooner or later, the only question is in a ring or in the octagon. Dana will be a fool to not have it take place in the octagon!

This coming from a guy who lost to Pedro Rizzo in the UFC, Randy Cotoure rearranged Rizzos face twice. Of course he would like to fight randy for the title, but it wont happen barnett also was beaten three times by cro cop who was knocked out by gonzaga and ganzaga was litterally smashed by randy. do the math and he was stripped of his title for steroids which means he will always be viewed as a cheater.

Think about it its dana and the ufc that have everything to gain and randy who (besides financial gain) has everything to lose.

Honestly, we can think of Barnett as a cheater, but he would prolly beat 90% of the Heavyweights, currently in the UFC. I say sign him with a stipulation that if he tests positiive again, his contract is to be terminated because there is nothing worse than the champion testing positive for roids.

i am not for roids but 80% of the fighters are on them or have been, i sure he is as clean as the next guy.look at sherk gracia and plenty of others that have already tested positive and are not thrown out

Thorazine said: “I agree with you on this and also disagree with you… Randy’s principles were in the right place… however he’d didn’t question things all the way through, in this world you can’t get by on principle alone… you have to have the facts to back him up he made several big errors which led to him losing some of his credibility, he should have talked to Dana when he came back from filiming and had his facts and figures correct before he made a public statement.”
I see your point and that may be the insight into it, I also can see how others feel the total opposite, that Couture actually lied. However, maybe where we differ is not that Couture wasn’t trying to be honest and did not have a legitimate beef. I’m placing a greater responsibility on Couture for being who he is as an MMAFighter/business person, he’s not some backwoods yahoo. He has dealt publicly with political issues of MMA in the past as a spokesperson that has articulated perfectly the reasons why MMA should be a legalized sport. He’s college educated, owns several small businesses around MMA and has successfully negotiated his contracts with the UFC in the past. Couture made multiple and careless errors in that one press conference which did not benefit anyone least of all himself. I agree with the principle but in the end it’s what you do, that leaves it’s mark. I feel his press conference errors revoling around $$$ figures greatly overshadowed anything Dana may have started with Kevin Iole.
Hey everyone is entitled to ‘screw up’ no ones perfect… I hope Couture make amends one way or another and lets get back to what he does best… fighting’.
Now that I’ve said all that I’m the type of guy that can only go with information that is provided… if Couture or White comes out with new information about what happened I’m liable to sway my opinion. lol
