M-1 (MFC): Fedor to fight on New Year's Eve in Japan

Language barrier?
I'm not sure how else to explain the on-again/off-again announcements regarding the debut of M-1 Global and its marquee player Fedor Emelianenko.
On November 3rd Fedor went from Russian cyborg to Jiminy Cricket after posting an open letter about wishes that come true. He was alluding to an event on New Year's Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
From Fedor:
If you wish something really bad you don't give up half way through. I contacted M-1 Global direction asking them to keep this tradition. You know what? They fully understood me in my wish to keep fighting in Japan when it's New Year's Eve. Now it all depends whether it's possible to organize such kind of event we all got used to. That's why I address to all of you fans out there. Me and M-1 Global will do our best to give you one more Championship in this New Year's Eve taking place in Japan. I would be extremely happy if our wishes come true.
Naturally the letter spread across the Internet in a matter of hours with fans and media speculating on everything from Fedor's first opponent to the rest of the fight card. While everyone was clamoring for answers, M-1 Global was backpedaling.
Just three days later M-1 CEO Monte Cox released a statement that Fedor's wish to have his M-1 debut on New Year's Eve was just that - a wish.
According to Cox:
It's not going to happen. There was an offer. We looked at it. We tried to see if it was possible but in the end there just wasn't enough time to pull it off.
Now the Russian based M-1 Mix-Fight Championship is reporting that Fedor will indeed fight on December 31st in Japan. No other details were released and the M-1 Global website has not been updated with any new information.
Hopefully there will be some clarification within the next few days. I would think the first order of business would be to announce a stable of fighter since it takes more than one man - no matter how good he is - to fill an entire pay-per-view.
With UFC 78 taking place over the weekend I'm sure the timing of this announcement is not a coincidence.
Once again, stay tuned.

Didn’t they say they wouldn’t be doing PPV’s for awhile until they established themselves? Regardless it’s most likely going to be on tape delay since it’s in Japan. As long as we get to see it somehow.

josh barnett would be a worthy opponent as would babalu
i think both would probably be available as neither have a UFC contract and other promotions are probably somewhat more open to the sharing of talent
Fedor is the true world HW champion
wouldnt be amazed if he walked in to the first m1 fight with his pride belt… wouldnt fancy danas chances of wrestling it from his grasp
and then walk out with the new M1 belt assuming he wins

Yeah, who’s Fedor gonna fight that’s gonna’ have us say, “I gotta see this fight!!” ???

If you dont think that Fedor is the #1 fighter in the world your delusional, He went through everyone in pride in brutal fashion i dont care if its been over a year since hes had a major fight.
I would like to see randy fight in the ufc again but if he were to come back and lose it would ruin the biggest fight in history so I would rather see randy get out of his ufc contract and fight fedor in m-1 or fight fedor in the ufc, Randy is going on 45 and hes still fighting thats insane he only has one fight left in him and it should only be with Fedor. Why should randy fight nogiera when nogeira was destroyed by Fedor

You know, I’m getting sick and tired of reading all this Fedor hating blogger crap. It’s like it’s become fashionable or something, and what I hate even more than blatent Fedor hating is latent hating with this story’s “Fedor is more like jiminy cricket than the russian cyborg” comment. You’ve got to remember who that letter he posted was aimed at, the Japanese audiance so it doesn’t translate well into a culture that is far less idialistic.
If Fedor retired RIGHT NOW he would still be the best there ever was and ever will be- PERIOD. I don’t care who he fights, it’s just an honor for a true MMA fan watch such a complete specialist at work.

To be honest unless it is an extremely good opponent I am not interested. After watching the Kimbo fiasco I am starting to come to the conclusion that, actually, UFC do have all the best fighters. Obviously Fedor is one of the best fighters in the world, or is he, I thought CroCop and Shogun were!!

I wonder if this might be the case of M1 loaning Fedor out to another organization. Are there any other promotions with fights scheduled on New Year’s Eve in Japan?

Then you better stay off your computer. As long as Fedor keeps fighting lesser talent, people will wonder how good he really is.Then they will get on mmamania and tell you what they think. Imagine that, a web site that lets you give your own opinion, fantastitic.
Besides, it’s a sport. don’t go geting all teary eyed for for a professional fighter man. It’s kinda creepy.

(sigh) My point is this: casual MMA fans are fickle. People turn their backs on great fighters like rats fleeing a sinking ship when they lose a fight or when they see a perceived chink in their proverbial armor. A year ago Fedor could walk on water, after his fight in Bodogg people started the internet rumors that he’s ducking people and suddenly every with an oppinion and the means to type and watch TV became profesional fight critics with nothing but negative things to say. Chuck and Mirko are two great examples of how fickle the casual fans can be; these are two guys who were loved by everyone because of their great highlight real knock outs, and as soon as they lost two in a row they were dubbed has-beens by the online circuit. Believe me, I’ve got no problem with people expressing them selves, it’s one of the great American rights that I fight to uphold (literally), but don’t fucking take a popshot at me for expressing my oppinion which is nothing more than disdain for the fickle sway of the casual MMA fans favor.

Well said Gene. It is an honor as an mma fan to watch the best fighter EVER. I dont care who he is fighting, he gets my $40.00. Stop hating on Fedor the God. He didnt sign with the UFC, that doesnt make him less of a fighter. Fedor would destroy any Heavyweight champion in UFC.. its simple as that. The only man with a chance to beat Fedor woulod be Randy, but only inside the octagon, in a ring, Randy would get embarresed!

Name one heavyweight champion in UFC history that could have beaten Fedor. Maybe Randy, and the Old Arlovski would have put up the best fight. But I have been a fan of mma for over 10 years, and I have never seen a heavyweight fighter that would be the favorite against FEDOR. Fedor is mma royalty.
Gene: you make a great point as to how fickle mma fans are. I am from Philadelphia..I know all about fickle fans, the fans here want to get rid of McNabb everytime he has a bad game.. No one remember what he has done for the Eagles in the past 9 years. MMA fans are just like Philadelphia fans. Its a shame. Ill tell you one thing if I was Fedor, the greatest fighter in the world I wouldnt have let Dana wehite push me around either.
Dana “the control freak” white wanted:
1.Fedor to not particiupate in russian sambo… what the hell he is like the only good thing to ever come out of Russia. He is beloved by his people, I wouldnt have turned my back on my people either.
2. He was trying to lowball his brother Alexander, who isnt a bad fighter and is young, talented and has a world of potential. If I had the juice that Fedor does, I would look out for my lil brother too
Im dissapointed to not have Fedor in the UFC. But I am happy someone of his stature stood up to Dana, and let Dana know that he isnt GOD, like Dana thinks he is.
I really admire Fedors principles, for once an athlete didnt make it all about the money! Good for you Fedor!
By the way all u fans that hate on him, where the same one drooloing over the possibility of him signing with the UFC all summer long! Haters!

Sean Sherk? What are you talking about???? Sherk had ONE fight in PRIDE, and prior to that, he had at least 4 fights in the UFC as well as about 20 fights in a bunch of other organizations. By your line of thinking, that would make Chuck Liddell a Pride fighter. ESPECIALLY since CHuck had 2 fights in PRIDE.

Its guys like you that make me wish that Randy does not fight Big Nog. He has everything to lose and nothing to gain. If he wins everyone says “so what, Fedor destroyed him”. If he loses everyone says well, now we know Fedor is better. The fact of the matter is, those fights with Big Nog were wars. Fedor did not “destroy” him.
Fedor had his chance to fight the best and get paid the most. He decided not too. Why? mabye he wants to keep his rep as the best ever.

And so far as other companies putting on a new years show K1 does the dynamite show yearly i think and maybe inoki bom ba ye although i dont know if they still do shows…..
Kongo doesnt have enough wrestling to stop cro cop from being able to take him down now let me explain this nogueira could barely take down barnett….and couldnt take down fedor and crocop is almost pure striker mentality but he took gonazaga down to me whoever the hell said that kongo would beat fedor needs to lay off the crack ..fedor is bad bad man…coleman didnt take him down till fedor lethim into his guard and then poof armbar so idont see couture outdoing fedor or anyone else….For that matter i remember barnett reversing couture in their fights…wow what short memories these tuf newbs have

Jeez, everbody needs to relax. “God?” “the best there ever will be?” I love the sport first then I’m a fighter’s fan. I was a huge Gracie fan, but I didn’t take it personal when Hughes beat him and I enjoyed the fight. Same with Chuck and Rampage. We are fans of a brutal, gut wrenching sport between two warriors. I think “god” er…I mean Fedor, can handle the criticism.

This is an opinion website, I do think Fedor is a great fighter. But how can you say that he best of all time? and he alway will be? What criteria do you use to decide that. I think there are way to many variables. Anderson Silva could be well on his way to becoming the best of all time. Hell why not, hes certainly the best in the 185 division.
What about GSP? He’s one of the best in the world at 170, Hes probably dominate at 185 as well. At 26 years old, he has not even reached his full potential yet, imagine GSP 5 years from now! with all that talent and athleticism, plus 5 more years of experience!
Maybe you can stop bitching whenever somebody on this or any other site gets a bit critical on your man crush Fedor. Maybe loosen your bear hug on his nuts a bit.

Look at this latest UFC, what a sorry excuse for a main event. Bisping and Evans are no where near the caliber for which main event fighters should be. Dana in his ongoing attempt to pay the UFC fighters close to nothing while charging a ton for pay-per-view is working. Someone needs to tell Dana we are tired of watching his golden boys fight, get some real fighters to fill the pay per view. We dont want to see his $15,000 dollar fighters on the card. Or, at least, only have 1-2 of them but not the entire line up!! How pathetic. There are to many good fighters in the world for Dana to label any of his ultimate fighters as even in the top 10. Give us a break Dana, stop shoving this down our throat, no one who follows MMA believes your crap about your golden boys being that good. Randy Cotoure has the right idea, I just wonder how long it will take for the rest of the worthy fighters to tell Dana to screw off too. Dana is the new “Don King” of MMA", they really need to let him go or more fighters will follow Randy’s footsteps.

Are you on drugs? did your mommy feed you paint chips when you were younger… she must have. Arlovski, while having a lot of talent, has a chin made of glass. You obviously didn’t see all the beatings he received while he was in pride. He couldn’t pull any notable wins till he came to the UFC. Tim simple fights like a defensive kid in the school yard, he would loose every fight if he didn’t have such a reach. The ones who close that gap defeat him. His two different combos do not hold up. If you remember, Randy lost to Barnett and Fedor has cleaned house in Pride. Fedor adapts to everyones style, his speed, coordination, strength and sheer will to win sets him apart from all others. He has proven himself consistently unlike any other opponent in the world. Simply put, he dominates every style that comes at him, the submission artist, striker, and the mix. Fedors world class sombo background matches well with Randy’s greco-roman. I love Randy but he would get owned, he is at his best in the clinch which would be nonexistent against Fedor. Your comment tells us all you are is a puppet for Dana’s UFC propaganda. Do some research and stop being the sheep.
