UFC 78: Ryo Chonan talks about training for Octagon debut against Karo Parisyan (Video)
This clip is from about one month ago; however, it's the first time I saw it. Thanks to BloodyElbow.com for the assist. Remember: "The Piranha" is making his UFC debut against Karo Parisyan at UFC 78: "Validation" this weekend at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Please try and comment below on Chonan and his upcoming fight -- not his Japanese accent.

Exact.
Karo is good but Chonan is a better fighter.

I want Karo to win then take on Fitch…that would be a great matchup.

Ryo Chonan is one crazy “mo-fo”!!
Dont expect this Karo fight going to decision like most of his fights.
Chonan will(imo) finish Karo late 2nd round…
Should be an exciting fight!

seems like everyones on the same wagon – i’ll jump on too – kick karo’s ass – finish him – bloody him up and break something before he has time to tap – karo deserves a broken limb for squaring up to LW’s

Comeon, look how everybody from pride has faired over in the UFC.
Karo is one of the best fighters in that division, and I think he just man handles Ryo.

He(Karo) “Man handles Ryo”??? no way dude.
I agree with you that Karo is a top fighter, and karo definetly has a chance.
But I disagree and say Ryo will(imo) win late in the 2nd round.
Nonetheless’ should be a very exciting fight and I am looking forward to it.

i am a fan of chonan as well but lets be real, there is no way chonan finishes the cocky, albeit tough mofo.
he lost every single one of these because of conditioning

Karo is a very exciting fighter, but he has very little KO power. Chonan stood and banged with anderson Silva for over 18 minutes. Silva peppered him with kicks, and punches and he couldnt even phaze chonan. I have been saying it since this fight was announced that chonan will defeat Karo… I will bet atleast $300 on it!
Also Chonan is next to impossible to submit. I have seen him escape Kimura’s (which is one of Karo’s favorite moves), fully extended arm bars, rear naked chokes. Only way Karo can possibly win is a decision, and I see chonan’s devastating leg kicks taking a toll on the heat making him vulnarable to be finished by chonan.
Also chonan has a great chin, only people to ever KO him were Baroni, and Henderson (who both hit like a tank) no shame in that.
MR NC-17 chonan is not everybody in Pride. Chonan seems very calm, nerves never get to him, he will be ready to fight, 4get the octagon jitters in this one. PRIDE fighters havent did that bad considering they rule 185 and 205 divisions of the UFC
Only way Karo can win is by decision, and I just dont see it happening, chonan is a slippery Kat, he reverses mount positions…very tricky fighter, and also has a pretty good ground n pound. I spent the day yesterday watching everysingle one of Chonan’s pride fights and that only reinforced my oppinion that Ryo will beat Karo…..either way it will be excitiong.

Karo “Candy ass crybaby / Do these punks now who I am ?” Parysian may win the local spelling bee against Ryo Chonan, but he is gonna get his ass handed to him over the course of three rounds.
Karo just isn’t enough of an athlete to end the fight against Ryo. He carries around his lil pot belly and couldn’t finish a B- level fighter in Josh Burkman. Ryo should win ia unanimous decision.
Wrap up !

What do you think Silva was thinking when Chonan came at him legs first? That was awesome. Reminds me of something Oleg Taktarov would have done.

Parisyan’s clearly the better fighter here and should be the favorite…He’s been stopped only once in his career. He has a superb chin and elite sub-defense. Chonan is a tougher match-up for him though. He’s not great with elite wrestlers or strong strikers but I don’t think Parisyan’s judo will be a major transition for him. I don’t think either fighter will end this, but Parysian by decision is the smart play. Chonan’s one highlight-reel win over Silva should overvalue him a bit.

Hold up Bre: lemme set you straight real quick. Although chonan’s scissor takedown into a heel hook was nice, what was really impressive was the 18 minutes of the fight that happened before that. Chonan’s leg kick combo’s were top notch, he took shots from Anderson that have finished everyone in the UFC’s 185 lb division and it didnt even slow him down. If you want me to be honest, I hate to say it but chonan clearly out struck silva for the whole 18 minutes befor finishing him with the submission. Chonan has a great chin.
Dont get me wrong, everytime Karo fights its exciting, but chonan is the tougher guy. The heat will be cooled off come saturday!
The only unknown is, I have never seen Ryo fight at 170.. he is usually 185. I still expect him to be very sharp and calm…he has that Japaqnease warrior spirit.

Man could they not round up a low level translater for this video. This was painful to watch.
I am really excited to see Chonan in the octagon. If Ryo fights the way he has in the past, Karo is going to have his hands full. I am excited for this fight.

He has 21 fights so I wont like them here. Just go here and at the bottom of the page it has everything.

It’s common knowledge that Chonan is a high calibre fighter but i think a lot of people have Karo underestimated. That mans ability to throw people around (regardless of size!) is phenomenal.I know that alone isn’t enough to win but in this fight i see Karo tossing Chonan around like a rag doll before ending up on top and finishing via submition or due to strikes :-)

almost all of Chonan loss’s seem to be any time he faces fighters from the top of their respective organizations. He has lost to “Phil Baroni” “Dan Henderson” “Paulo Filho” and also “Riccardo Almeida” Most of his wins are against relative unknowns. His only win of any substance is against “Anderson Silva” and that was when? 2005, so i think so that kind of rules that out, Silva has come a long way in the meantime.I think he’ll wilt under the spotlights of the UFC against again, another big name.Karo in two.

I would say that TKOing Mach Sakurai was a win of substance! Villasenor is no joke either, although that fight was extremely close.

I doubt that it will probably be hendersons camp, maybe Lindland and Dan himself

If Karo doesnt sumbit Ryo in the first two rounds I think it will be ryo by split decision……unless karos condition has improved drastically then karo by majority decision

Damn, you are right dia Mette, I completely forget that Ryo was rolling with them now. Good looking on the correction.

Com’on guys…
Karo all the way. Its gonna be a barn burner.
Ryo should be well adjusted to judo so he should fair well.
Karo is out to prove something… I am sure it will go the 3 rounds and Karo by Decision.
