Tryouts for UFC Ultimate Fighter 7 set for N.J. on Nov. 19 (Middleweights)

the ultimate fighter tuf 7The first wave of open tryouts for season seven of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) is set to take place at the Newark Airport Hilton Hotel in Elizabeth, N.J., on Monday, November 19 at 8 a.m.

It seems UFC President Dana White and production executives for the mixed martial arts reality series that airs on the Spike television network -- Craig Piligian and Brian Diamond -- will try and make the most of their trip to the Garden State this weekend.

The trio will already be in town for UFC 78: "Validation" on Saturday, November 17, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

As expected, the casting call is for middleweight fighters (185 pounds) "who think they have what it takes to compete in the world's pre-eminent MMA organization." For those who cannot make it to New Jersey there is also an online application that must be completed and submitted along with video footage no later than November 26, 2007.

There's no set date for the first episode of TUF 7 to air. However, expect to catch it on the airwaves sometime in early 2008.

We'll keep you posted on any other updates or further developments.

Oh great, a whole season of Northeast-Yankee-Obnoxiousness. Don’t get me wrong, I like Matt Serra, but that Jersey-New York attitude/talk can wear on a guys ears.

just saw a soukojou interview in which he said he will be fighting in a cage not a ring on december 29 in las vegas. to me it sounds like the ufc has signed him.

Now the only thing I need to do is gain 20 pounds, and I should head up to New Jersey.

Hey I know for a fact I am better than, Noah Thomas, Marlon Sims, Blake Bowman, Richie Hightower, Strange Brew Jason Thacker, Wayne Weems, Kerry Shall, Noah Ianhoffer, Joey Scarola.. ergh Mentally better, Ross Pointon…

I can go on, but I will stop.

This is bad news. The UFC should already have a good idea on who they want. They do scout the “rinky dink” leagues.

This tryout seems like a search for the future first round losers on the show – those with little fighting talent, but with funny, irritable, and/or unstable personalities.

Man they should be doing heavyweights. Maybe they are thinking Silva needs more competition.

by grembone on Nov 13, 2007 12:11 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

so whats your mma record mr. nc-17? You wouldnt be the first fighter to move up a weight class to get on the ultimate fighter look at kenny florian he fought at middle weight on his season and he is a natural lightweight look at rashad evans he could probably fight 185 and he fought at heavyweight so if you think you are really that good i think you should go and tryout.

1-0 Pro, 7-1 Am.

I have not fought in almost a year because of a leg injury which kinda worries me.

Me gaining 20 pounds in a week, might just kill me.

Lutter and all the other TUF 4 fighters were already established in the UFC. It’s not like he was some unknown guy taking on all comers at county fairs.

REALLY? You would need to Gain 20 lbs to make MW. I thought that you would need to cut at least 20 lbs. If I remember correctly from your write up on the Cincinatti event, didn’t you say that you are 6’4"?

ALSO, MR.NC-17, thanks for being a good sport on Friday in that Evan Tanner thread. My appologies, I was having an awful day. I usually go off on people here with no remorse, but I felt bad doing it to you, because I also enjoy to read your comments.

I totally agree. I think by competition, I meant guys to beat up on. haha

I’d like to try out for TUF, but I’d have to drop 35lbs. I’ve never had a professional fight, but my ametuer record is 3-27. I fight 12 year old girls, but they’re HUGE.

just wondering what you guys think.

If you were a guy 4-0 and was offered a chance to fight Jonathan goulet would you take it?

The guy is 3rd in canada in Judo and his 4 wins have been over a boxer(2nd round Armbar), 2 kickboxers (one decision & one first round armbar), and a run the mill mma guy (I believe was a first round TKO STOPPAGE).

I think its a great opportunity for his career ohhhhh, so you are 4 and 1 (the loss to Goulet isnt such a bad thing)

It’s definately a step up in competition. If you are a new fighter I think it helps to fight a guy with a name like Goulet. It’s a good thing to have on your resume, especially if you beat him.

Is this a real scenario for a friend of yours? Becaus if it is, there are quite a few factors that would need to be considered first.

The first one being age. Is the 4-0 fighter 20 years old, or is he 35 years old? If he’s 35, I’d say to fight Goulet and go for broke. At that ‘old’ age, you need to make as much money as possible because you don’t have much time in the sport left. However, if he fighter is 20 years old and won the majority of his 4 fights by decision, then no way. If he won all 4 by devastating Houston Alexander style KO’s, then go for it too.

Another would be how long has the person been training for? Someone that has been wrestling their whole life can much more easily transition into MMA than someone that has 2 months of BJJ training under their white belt.

P.S. I just randomly feel like saying that Dustin Hazelett is an awesome up and coming fighter in the UFC. If you want to see come slick BJJ, watch some Dustin Hazelett fights.

Be careful. You remember how well that worked out for Gabe Ruediger.

we need a few good 85 ponuders. rich franklin needs a few new rookies to beat up on. Henderson vs. Silva??? franklin has a better shot against henderson. who wants to see franklin vs. silva III. nobody but franklins plastic surg.

The guy has done judo since he was 15yrs old and is 26ish. 3 of his fights he dominated in and had one real tough battle that he got by decision. He has been training for 2 1/2 yrs in mma.

And yes this is for real.

With watching how Silva owned Franklin a second time, I’m hoping that they get some talent that has a chance against Silva. Sure the whole TUF thing is getting a bit tired, but the middleweight needs someone who has a snowballs chance in hell against Silva. As for the heavyweights, with Couture gone the division seems wide open.
