Joe Doerksen: Ed Herman is 'going to get hurt' during UFC 78 fight this weekend

Props: FightNetwork.com
Quoteworthy:
"This is a really good fight for me. He [Ed Herman] is obviously not an easy opponent, but style wise, we match up really well. This is a really good opportunity for me to get some of that notoriety and to get my name out there. I think he's going to get hurt. If things go my way, he's not going to make it out of the second round."
Middleweight Joe Doerksen -- who replaced an injured David Terrell -- talks about his return to the Octagon against Ed Herman at UFC 78: "Validation" on Saturday, November 17, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. In 2004, Doerksen choked "Short Fuse" unconscious with a triangle at SportFight 7: "Fright Night."

Is Doerksen still under contract with WEC? or is this a case of a WEC contracted fighter fighting in the UFC? Anyone shed some light on his contract situation.

If Ed gets hurt, its b/c he bumped his toe, or caught his finger in a doorway. Otherwise it won’t be a repeat of the last time these 2 fought.

Guys that know they are going to lose, always say it’ll end in a second round TKO.
Guys taht know they will win, always say first round knockout or submission.
I’ll be betting the house on Herman….

I’d much rather watch the Joe Lauzon vs. Jason Reinhardt fight than the Ed Herman vs. Joe Doerksen fight.

Doerkson is gonna knock him out. I see Ed being unexperienced against Doerkson. Man that is a bad picture of him up there too. His nose is sideways.

I was looking forward to seeing Terrell but it looks like he is making a habit of pulling out of fights. I have a hard time believing one fighter could get injured so much, oh well. I got Herman by submission 2nd or 3rd round. He’s improved greatly since their last fight. Thanks for hindering an already questionable card Terrell.

whats up with the ufc & joe silva (who cant match make worth shit by the way) making matches that have already happened in other organizations. Nogiera/ herring, werdum/gonzaga, herman, doerkson its becoming a trend.
About wec fighers fighting in ufc Dana ownes the wec hes pulling all the strings if he needs a fighter for any reason they just tell the guy we need you to fight in ufc its as easy as that

yeh well than y the hell hasn’t dana told paulo filho that he needs him to fight in the UFC. Grant it filho and anderson silva are close freinds and it doesnt look like they would fight each other but come on man that middleweight division is crap get filho in there to fight Rich (if he doesnt retire) franklin, J-maC, Drew Mcfedries (I like him a lot), Martin Kampan (if he ever comes back from that knee injury) or Nate Marquardt.I want to see Nate fight either Rich Franklin or Mcfedries. Also, Bisping can be succesful in that weak ass middleweight division. Once he looses to Rashad he has to drop down to 185. Kendal grove vs. Bisping = interesting. Also Ed Herman vs. Bisping = Interesting. Bisping at 205 lbs = undersized!
Also y are all u crying over the loss of David Terell? who knows if he is any good any more? I havent seen him fight in forever. I dont understand what all the fuss is over the loss of Terrell. At least doerkson has fought recently, and he isnt the best fighter in the world, but he is more than capable of giving a relatively young fighter like Herman hell! Doerkson isn’t a bad replacement fighter, you can count on him to bring it, it could be much worse. This card lacks a lot more than David Terrell

So what is the reason Filho is in the WEC genius? Terell is a nobody anymore….who the hell cares….he got chumped by evan Tanner!
also, I know he got KO recently but will someone please get Dennis Kang in the UFC! Watching him is 1000 times better than watching J-mac. Also if the UFC wasn’t gonna resign Yushin Okami what was the point of letting him beat J-mac? J-mac wouldn’t be top 10 in any other UFC division but since 185 lb division is anorexic, he is one of the better fighters at 185, and I see no point in matching him up with Okami to loose at UFC 77 and further tarnishing J-mac record

UFC PRESS RELEASE:
- UFC PRES ADDRESSES SHERK, COUTURE, AND MORE
Monday, November 12, 2007 – by Ken Pishna – MMAWeekly.com
Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White and several of his fighters addressed the media on Monday. While much of the talk centered on this weekend’s UFC 78 event in Newark, N.J., White also addressed several other pressing issues.
With the recent announcement that lightweight champion Sean Sherk’s appeal hearing before the California State Athletic Commission has been pushed back yet again, to Dec. 4, and the B.J. Penn vs. Joe Stevenson fight at UFC 80 proclaimed a bout for the interim lightweight title, Sherk’s situation is right at the fore.
Ever since it came to light that Sherk had tested positive for steroids following his July 7 title defense, White has shown public support for his champion.
“He looked me in the eye and told me like a man, “I didn’t do it.’ I believe him,” said the UFC president in early August. “I don’t think he’s a liar. I don’t think he’s a cheater. He’s a good guy, he works hard and I’m going to take his word for it.”
As recently as Nov. 2, Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole was reporting that White said he would not strip Sherk of his title. But even though he has still publicly supported Sherk, as the case has continued to draw out, it appears that stripping him of his title has one again become an option.
In announcing the interim title fight, White stated, “The belt can’t be in limbo for this long. I’ve said since the beginning that I believe in Sean Sherk, but we have to support the athletic commission in whatever decision they make.”
He added to that during Monday’s conference call.
“B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson are going to fight for the interim title. We’ll see what happens with Sherk. If Sherk is found guilty, we’ll support the (California) State Athletic Commission and he’ll probably be stripped of his title. If not, then he’ll keep his title and it will be champion vs. champion.”
If that weren’t enough, the UFC has also had to deal with the discord with its heavyweight champion, Randy Couture, who suddenly “resigned” from the promotion in early October.
Following several public statements and presentations from both sides expressing disappointment over the situation, recent speculation is that Mark Cuban’s new fight promotion, HDNet Fights, has offered Couture a position within the company and that he is close to, if not already, accepting the offer.
White however, indicated that the UFC has offered its champion a title defense and is awaiting a response.
“We officially offered it to him and we haven’t heard back yet. We should know this week. He (sent me a text message) yesterday and said he wants to sit down and talk.”
Asked if there would possibly be an interim belt issued for the heavyweight division as well, White was emphatic that would not happen.
“No. Randy’s going to make a decision one-way or the other. We’re going to get together next week, I think, and talk and see where we’re at.”

Enough already…

Randy you senile old bat…. please defend your title against Big Nog……..Dana and Randy better sit down like men and squash all the bullshit, Randy defend your Damn title….The heavyweight title is a HUGE honor… do not walk away from it, especially not at 44 years old….Enjoy it man, this could very easily be your last belt. Also defend it against Noguerra in one of the most technical heavyweight fights of all time, at least he wont have to deal with a huge heavyweight trying to knock his head off. Make another million dollars or so, then he would have 1 fight left, honor the contract and you can fight Fedor in 8 months!!!! Randy be the stand up man that you have always been, honor your last 2 fights and you will be fighting Fedor by this August!!!!!!! Maybe not in an octagon, but you will have a shot at him none the less! Although I dont see Rasndy beating Fedor in a ring!
P.S. Randy please dont bring your wife to the meeting… Grown men should discuss grown men business!! Leave the wife and kids at home!!!!!!!!!!

That is right, Randy – The Natural Business man, is under negotiations with Mark The Shark Cuban for a postion. (not in conflict with the UFC contract, based off current knowledge). I think it has Dana losing even more sleep. Wah-wah

Guys, I am from Ireland and although I think my mma knowledge is alright, it is limited to UFC as that is all we get over here, except cage rage from Britain which sucks terribly.
Can some-one explain to me the Fedor phenom? Is he that good, who has he beaten etc, what are his strengths/ styles?
Thanks guys

Ed Herman could have his hands full here Doerksen has some decent wins Denis KAng, Chris Leben, and PAt Cote to name a few. He also took MAtt Linland to decision. Then again he has some loses to the likes of Joe Riggs and David Loiseau(2002)can not remember if that was David with or without Heart. Ed HErman is a different fighter and has more experience as well. Should be a good fight all and all…

Take it from me.. Fedor is the greatest fighter in mma history. He has only lost once and I believe it was to TK (Japanease dude). Do your self a favor go out and buy Pride Fc’s Body blow and watch Fedor vs. Noguerra and then go out and buy Final conflict 2005 and watch Fedor vs. Cro cop….. Trust me… buy those 2 dvd’s

it would be awesome to c urija in the UFC but, dude i weight about 165 and i know a bunch of ppl that weight more than me and urija could beat the shit out of all of us no matter what his weight is. its crazy that he weights that much but, its only because he is so short he has alot of muscle, i think he actually walks around like at 155-160 so he cuts to 145 he could easily make 155 but who knows all we can do is wait and c what Dana offers him.

I am from England so much much of my Pride knowledge comes from you tube and from the numerous MMA sites that are out there. That was all the education I needed to know that Chuck was not going to beat Rampage. Sherdog will give you a list of who he has beaten and there are quite a few sites out there where you are able to download quite a few of his fights. Keying in Fedor Rapidshare or Fedor Megaupload should give you a starting point. Even watching him on you tube tells you that there are not to many fighters out there that would make it past the 1st round with him, he is like a pitbull very quick and strong for his size, dangerous on his feat and equally on the ground. It would have been good to see him fight Randy, but he seems to be a better version of Randy, if you can get such a thing. Whether or not he is still that good, remains to be seen. Seeing him fight Josh Barnnett would have been intereting as well.

This fight could go either way. Both Herman and Doerksen have fought and beat some tough fighters. Joe has a bit more expierience in the ring, and a slightly better win percentage. Joe is also a rely nice guy, I have never personaly met Ed but he seems like a dick. I hope Joe wins this one.

When is the UFC going to bring back Trevor Prangley, he is definately one of the better fighters in this weight division and should definately be fighting UFC. He without doubt beat Trevor Horn in the match they had, everyone saw that apart from the judges, it was a joke. It would definately be welcome talent in this weight division.
