Jess Liaudin: No ground war at UFC 80 against Marcus Davis

Jess Liaudin UFC 80

"We've both got explosive styles which are going to match up well. He likes to knock people out and so do I. Someone is getting knocked out – probably in the first round – at UFC 80."

-- French welterweight Jess "Joker" Liaudin tells UK's The Sun to expect a quick knockout finish in his fight against heavy-handed Marcus Davis at UFC 80: "Rapid Fire" on January 19 at The Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England.

I was looking forward to see Davis fight Fitch. Davis is on a big winning streak and befor Sanchez Fitch has not fought with any top five. So why not place these two in a match. I guess Davis will have to win a 6th fight in a row.

Davis has definately come along way since TUF. He puts on exciting fights. Hope to see him get some big names soon.

I’m going for Marcus Davis all the way, first loss in the ufc for liaudin.
Liaudin is tough thou, this should be a good fight and will likely end in the first round by someone getting beat.

I need to buy you tickets more often, Jesse.

Sounds like it will be an exciting fight, but then again, hasn’t any fight involving Marcus Davis been exciting? Especialy his fight against the Brit, Paul Taylor – what a fight that was!

Hopefully with a win against Laudin, The Irish Hand Grenade will finally start fighting someone at least near the top 10.

I need to buy you tickets more often, Jesse.

Huh?

I think that Marcus Davis should be fighting a top guy. I have him in my top 10.

This could be a classic scenario of a top guy (Davis) going in and underestimating a lower ranked fighter (Laudin), it will be a bad night for Markus if he underestimates Jess’s skills.

I also agree with this post.
If Davis loses?. That could just be the reason why he lost.
Davis does seem like a “high on power” type of guy.
..nonetheless’’ I hope Davis pulls out the win.

I see this is a lose-lose situation for Marcus. If he wins, big deal – he beat up another nobody and does not move him up in the rankings. However if he loses, he will fall way down the list of WW contenders.

I agree,
except if he wins i would think the UFC would give him a top10 opponant…what about you??
But if he loses?..Yeah" he would definely drop down the ladder for sure…We probably wouldn’t see him for a while.

Has Davis beat anyone in the top 10? I dont think you put him against the number three contender, just because he had an impressive win over a marginal fighter. He hasn’t beaten anyone of consequence.

The UFC went the same route with Fitch. He put together a long win streak against small-time guys until they finally let him fight Sanchez. He got the chance to prove he belonged among the top WWs and Davis should get that chance too with a win over Joker.

Davis is riding a 10 fight win streak and liuadin has had two high exposure fights in the UFC expect this to be a great fight, although i do see davis closing the distance, he is seseptable to high kick and the joker can dish them out

Did Marcus Davis sign some sort of contract where he is no longer allowed to fight in the USA? If my memory servers me correct, wasn’t he on every foreign card so far? Both events in the UK so far, Ireland, and now another one in the UK.

The guy comes from good Irish stock, but he is born and raised American. This is a little silly.

i dont think anybody at 170 can out box davis i think the only way somebody beats him standing is by mixing in alot of kicks.

Davis deserves a top 10 opponent with a win here. He is a top flight boxer and getting pretty good on the ground too. Born and raised in the great state of MAINE. ayuh!!!

There is no such thing as a lose lose situation when your a fighter such as Marcus Davis. I think he would even tell you that hes blessed to be fighting in the UFC. Thats not to say that his determination and years of training has nothing to do with his win streak but any time a fighter of his caliber can showcase their skills in front of thousands of fans on the main card of any ufc event and come out on top then its not losing at all. Many people thought the same thing about the Davis vs. Paul Taylor fight in which Davis went out and ate a heavy right kick to the chops but still managed to hold it together and come out on top which was a great result. I agree the opponents dont have top 5 written all over them but they still compete in the cage where on any given night anything can happen. Another win for Davis will solidify his standing in the top 10 of the 170lb division which in turn puts the ball in ufc managements court to put together a Davis vs Fitch caliber fight. If Davis loses then he takes a step back but its not to say he wont fight again. Look at Liddell he lost to Rampage, then Jardine and he still gets the Wanderlei Silva fight. A win is a win in the UFC.
