UFC 81: Tito Ortiz wants to fight the Rashad Evans-Michael Bisping winner in February

tito ortiz

Props: Edmonton Sun

Quoteworthy:

"When I lost to Chuck Liddell I took a step down. When I fought Rashad (Evans) I thought I won the fight. It was supposed to happen again, but it ain't happening. I looked at a thing on UFC.tv and it said the lightheavyweights are Rashad vs (Michael) Bisbing and there were others that were contenders, but my picture wasn't on it. They are just trying to hold on and make sure the fighters don't get more powerful. I am going to work to get the right fights and that belt will be around my waist."

While in Edmonton, Canada, former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz discusses his intentions for the future. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" was supposed to headline the the upcoming UFC 78: "Validation" card on November 17; however, talks broke down and Michael Bisping filled his spot against "Sugar." Ortiz has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract.

Tito is getting delusional! He is beginning to sound like his old buddy Ken Shamrock. You were a great champion Tito, your time is past. It’s sad to see a fighter think he still has it when he don’t.

It was close, but I do think Tito beat Rashad. Too bad Tito lost a point for repeated fence holding…

In truth, there is no chance that either Ortiz, Evans or Bisping stands a chance in h3ll at beating Rampage. Perhaps the UFC’s reasoning is that if they dont’ have Ortiz rematach and perhaps win, they can at least maintain the illusion that Evans and Bisping are contenders.

Tito owes Rashad a rematch anyway for that draw, but he ducked out of it. If Bisping beats Rashad and Tito beats Bisping, that won’t exactly send Tito skyrocketing up the LHW ranks. I think he knows he’ll never be a serious title contender again and is just looking for marketable fights (rematch w/ Rashad or TUF teacher vs. TUF student) with big potential payouts.

Notice how Tito calls out either Bisbing or Rashad…Not Henderson, Wanderlei, Rampage, Chuck, or Shogun. Tito you were great in your time but the sport has moved on and you have not. Besides as long as Chuck is still fighting, Tito will never be the champ…Even if Chuck retires, Tito will never be the champ…whats my point? TITO WILL NEVER BE CHAMP AGAIN in the UFC.

i think tito would have lost their first fight if he did not hold the fence stopping rashad from getting the takedown. Just think if rashad had those one or two takedowns in the second round that round would have been 10-9 in his favor to go along with him winning the third round rashad would have won a decision 29-28 across the board.

dont u realize that Tito grabbed the fence 3 times which would have resulted is 3 take downs by evans and evans would have then won round 2 and 3. tito only got better positioning because he grabbed the fence

And Pete, if Houston can show me in two more fights that he has stamina, I will be a believer (the guy is like dynamite, that can be bad or good). Until then, I see Evans, then maybe Griffin or Jardine getting a title fight. Unless Dana says fuck it and throws in the winner of the Silva-Liddell first.

Yeah. Fight contracts have both a time constraint and a number of fights within that time constraint giving a significant layoff between fights. (4 months or 6 months?)

tito could of had like 2 points taken from him. he grabbed the fence 3 times the 1st time should have been a warning and then he would have lost 2 points after that. add the fact that he would have been taken down a few times giving Evans the 2nd round Tito would have lost. He only won because grabbing the fence gave him a better position.

My thoughts exactly. Tito Ortiz, in his oppinion is this huge UFC Megastar deserving of the title, yet instead of calling out the best like Rampage, wanderlei, Henderson, Shogun, forrest, arona, Jardine, alexander he calls out the winner of bisping (a glorified middleweight) and Rashad. lol what a pussy! Tito is worse than shamrock cuz atleast shamrock would have gotten in the cage with anyone, Tito wont fight any top level opponents. Instead he calls out b-level fighters, makes it personal so that the fight will sell and then puts together a crappy performance (trying to g n p from inside his opponents guard. This monkey faced bobble-head is the joke of the UFC and I do not understand how in the world tito still has fans.

What a joke! Step up and be a man, you say u will hold the belt again, yet you always call out the weakest opponents! Grow a set, U Klown……..

If it was up to me, I would never let ortiz fight in the UFC again. Ship his ass over to the ifl and let him fight Vernon “tiger” white because he isnt ready for the beasts at 205 in the UFC. He just ins’t skilled enough to compete. He cant strike, submissions are weak, and he doesn’t even look to pass guard! What a joke!!!!!

Tito doesnt even have the ballz to speak shogun’s name! I would like to see tito fight forrest again so that forrest can whoop on him, then again Forrest is on the up and up and tito dosnt deserve to fight forrest. Forrest is a true warrior, he will fight anyone, he doesnt talk trash, he brings it everytime, thats y forrest although not the best fighter in the world is beloved by everymma fan in the USA, and deservingly so.

At some point I feel like Tito has lost it. I feel as though he just fights to keep all his other options going. Hes lost the drive and now fights for publicity reasons alone. You can tell his mental game isnt there because he doesnt like fighting. Hes already got money, his own business, a hot girl, and nice cars. He doesnt need to fight, and you can tell this by how he fights.

The business side of the UFC is absolutely killing us fans. UFC PPV cards are suffering because of fighters who have one fight left on their contracts. As a result, Dana declines to allow these guys to fight (Arvlovski, Ortiz, etc). It my personal opinion, the organization is being run very poorly. A smart General Manager / Owner would re-negotiate when a fighter has 2-3 fights left on his current contract. You do not wait until the day before a report is due to actually complete it. And in the UFC or any professional sport, you SHOULD NOT wait until a fighter has only one fight, or one year left on his contract to begin negotiations.

Ultimately the people spending the $40 each PPV card are suffering. The average JOE is also suffering because while UFC brass’ pockets are getting fatter with huge SPIKE TV deals, the only stuff that is aired on SPIKE TV is The Ultimate Fighter, re runs of past fights, and specials which air at 11pm or midnight. It is poorly ran and Dana is taking advantage of what mainstream attention he has earned. It seems to be that the UFC has become very complacent to the point that having top tier fights on Ultimate Fight Night are non-existant. Fans also have to wait usually 3 months to see one of these fight nights.

Why can’t the UFC put on an Ultimate Fight Night once a month ? They certainly have plenty of fighters to do so considering they only air 4 of the fights on Spike when they do have one.

Am I way off base here ? Let’s get some feedback, and as always bashing the chrome dome is appreciated….

Tito will be champ again – as long as the ufc support him and pick his fights smartly at the same time not ducking the elite but keeping him under pressure – - he wnt fight bisping or rashad (i doubt) his ladder should be – jardine – alexander – wandy. these are all fighters in the elite and fighters tito has a solid 50/50 chance against. Its crazy how we get this great white hype scenario all the time – jardine won against chuck but stylisticly without chucks takedown defense, these 3 guys cant handle tito’s GnP – but they could all knock him out so i think they are all good fighters for titos rise to the top

Yes, and Bisping was miffed because of the favoritism Tito showed Hamill. This fight has the built-in storyline that Tito loves, and he’ll end up hyping it into a co-main event somehow.

Tito probably should fight Henderson or Shogun next, that would make the most sense to me. I think he could beat Shogun by decision or stoppage, but Henderson would give him serious trouble anywhere the fight went and would probably win by decision or possibly TKO. Depending on where the UFC wants these guys, they have legitimate fight possibilities that they could line up and control the division.

Right now, it looks like they’re lining Rashad up for a title fight, and trying to get Bisping to go to middleweight. They should have a rematch between Forrest-Jardine, Jardine-Houston, or mix things up by having Houston fight Forrest, depending on how Houston does in his match against Thiago Silva. In the next 3-4 months, the LHW division will have enough contenders to keep the champ busy until 2009.

It should be Tito vs Shogun!!! That would be a bigger draw. Griffin vs Rampage, and the Evans/Bisping winner (Evans of course)vs. winner of Liddel/ Silva===then a title shot. Griffin is not quite the #1 contender, but the champ doesn’t necessarily always face the #1, Rampage wasn’t. Or even Houston vs Rampage, Jardine faces the winner? So many combinations, this should keep the main event pretty attractive in 08, unlike UFC 78, this is the first pay per view that I’m not ordering.

Those fights are a good scenario. I’d tweak it a bit, to have these fights:

1.Rampage vs. Forrest
2. Wandy/Chuck winner vs. Henderson
3. Tito vs. Shogun
4. Evans/Bisping winner vs. Alexander/Silva winner

Then, the winner of #2 gets a title shot, even if it means a Henderson/Rampage rematch. you can then match up the #3 and #4 winners. I’d work Jardine in against the loser of the Alexander/Silva fight.

Why can’t the UFC put on an Ultimate Fight Night once a month ? They certainly have plenty of fighters to do so considering they only air 4 of the fights on Spike when they do have one.

Nope. You are right. They need more fights with the growing number of fighters in the UFC. Your idea is great.

I just want to see Tito fighting so he can get his ass whooped. Put him in there against real fighters, Rampage, Griffin again who is a much better fighter than before, Henderson, Shogun, Wanderlei Silva. Hell, put him up against Anderson Silva so he can get dissected round by round and cry when the fight is over because he will have realized that he is a far inferior fighter than most out there!

Don’t forget Vitor Belfort!! Does anyone know if he’s coming back? I recall an article mentioning that he wanted Rampage.

LOL, yeah because he needs money and Rampage is the UFC champ. Of course he ‘wants’ Rampage, but realistically and sadly, I think that he’d have a hard enough time beating ‘The Rino’ Doug Marshall to obtain the WEC championship.

UFC does NOT support him they got all pissed at him and thats y they went ahead with the Bisping V Evans fight

by Michael on Nov 12, 2007 5:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Those fights are a good scenario. I’d tweak it a bit, to have these fights:

1.Rampage vs. Forrest
2. Wandy/Chuck winner vs. Henderson
3. Tito vs. Shogun
4. Evans/Bisping winner vs. Alexander/Silva winner

Then, the winner of #2 gets a title shot, even if it means a Henderson/Rampage rematch. you can then match up the #3 and #4 winners. I’d work Jardine in against the loser of the Alexander/Silva fight.

Henderson is going to Middleweight and he only has 1 more fight on his contract

by Michael on Nov 12, 2007 5:53 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Good luck with that. I honestly don’t see anyone taking the belt from Rampage for a while.

Vitor is actually a title belt holder in a smaller mma org.
The winner of evans/bisbing will be with perfect record and this begs the winner to fight machida! Not some washed up gorilla head mofo.

I am baffled as to how a fraud like tito still has fans! Ortiz is making like $250,000 a fight and theres real champion like Anderson Silva making $150,000 at the most… Now everyone is entitled to their own oppinion…. but come on Tito as a future champ…. give me a break!

Also if Jenna leaves the walking bobble head for another fighter……It will be the funniest thing ever…. I would piss myself if I herd that…. Rampage should grab Jenna and have his way with her!!!!!

Vitor = completely washed up! Vitor vs. Tito next year in the IFL!!!!!!!!!! I wouldnt sign him if I was the WEC…. I said it before and I will say it again…. He is washed up ever since he found Jesus, or hezus…….how ever the hell he pronounces it!

UFC 81: Tito Ortiz wants to Catch Early Bird Special, Take a Nap

Dude’s old and washed up. His next fight should be with the other folks in the home over whether they watch Dancing with the Stars or Matlock.

AHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHA ROFTLMAO

im with u man come feburary let the beatingz begin!!!!

WITH THAT GLASS JAW??? Tito’s got a better chance of getting pregnant (especially with the estrogen in those little nipples) than ever winning the title again!!

by J-Love on Nov 12, 2007 8:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Seriously, is there something in their contract that says they need to fight within a certain time? I mean, if a fighter has 1 fight left on their contract, and the UFC doesn’t book that fighter in a fight, the fighter can’t do anything?

I’ve been asking this same question for awhile, but haven’t got any answers from the forum

I have never liked Tito or his fighting style. With all the talent around these days I am not sure if I can see him being champ again any time soon, but I have to agree, that with Titos fighting style he has a good chance of beating a lot of the top guys. If he can take them down he would neutralise there strengths and they would be open to his strengths which is ground and pound. I actually went for the upset and predicted Jardine would beat Chuck by among other factors looking at fighting style, but if Jardine would have been fighting Tito, I would have given that a 50/50, because if Tito would have been able to take Jardine down, I am not sure how effective Jardine would have been. Either way Tito is still a wanker.

Can you quote 1 credible source that states Henderson is going to middleweight?

Tito would dominate bisbing and rashad,,,Rashad got lucky the first time. Tito just needs to get his edge back. I do no think he is done though

I like Tito dont get me wrong but I dont see him wearing the belt like u all said Rampage is a beast and he is gonna be hard 2 beat.Wanderli Silva is the only 1 i see getting remotly close 2 beating Rampage. The Tito-Evans fight honestly I think it was bullshit that it was a draw these UFC judges are just gettin ridiculous.

Tito will get the edge back…Trust me i really think so..the ufc is comming so predictable

by big swerve on Nov 23, 2007 8:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i still believe that tito will get his edge back and come out in 08 and run the table, cause there is alot of no names that people are talking up that hasent proved nothing yet!so all you tito haters just keep on hating because i dont wanna see any messages that you liked him when he starts dominating the octagon again!

by ORTIZ!!!!!!08....BABY! on Nov 30, 2007 12:03 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

wow there are alot of people who really dont like tito. lol.
tito will never be able to beat chuck like chuck will never beat rampage or, (as much as i like rampage i dont think he will beat wanderla… not cause these fighters suck or w/e there is just someone out there who will always have u. as for dana white he will never let tito hold the belt again it would be pointless. If tito somehow got the 205 belt whats to keep chuck from beating on tito again then rampage will k.o. chuck again and we will be in the same spot in 08 or 09 that we are in 07. fyi i am mexican and even though tito is mexican american we like to hold tito very high (fu*k paul bentelo!) but even id have to say i would like him to fight a few “contenders” before stepping up and i dont mean lay and pray or grab the fence i mean punishment… pound out some suckers get his confidence up then maybe fight at 185 i mean that was his class before frank shamrock beatem down.

rich Franklin vs Tito ortiz
diego sanchez vs michael bisbing
brandon vera vs andre arlovski
mirco cro-cop vs tim sylvia
wanderlay silva vs forest griffen
ricardo arona vs keith jardine

dana white give us our 40 dollars worth i have to work almost 4 hours for that kind of cash. and im not gonna waste my money to watch bisbing and evans overexurst themselves before they even start the fight by doing a massive entrance errrrrrrrrr. what happend when only the main events got sweet long intros?

and where o where is vitor belfort.. i want to see him in at least one more fight preferably against huston alexander the now that would be a stand up war quick and painfull.

i think rashad will still hold his own with ortiz, and then another split to sugar………..
